Character Bios:
Quote:
Username: NPC (Can be 'used' by anyone)
Character Name: Randolff Summers
Character Age: 55
Career/apprenticeship: King of Tremaine
Physical Description:
Personality: Cheerful and Kind, Randolff tries to be fair with everyone in his life, though he may have spoiled his youngest daughter just a bit. It is rare to find the King in a bad mood. On the few occasions that it has happened, people learned quickly not to argue with him.
Family: Rosalie Summers – 45, wife of 26 years. Daniel Summer – 25, Eldest son and heir to the throne, Drake Summers – 23 Second son, Amelia Summers – 20 eldest daughter, Lexie Raye Summers 16 youngest daughter and favorite child.
History: Raised with the knowledge that he would one day inherete the Throne of Tremaine, Randolff spent much of his youth training to be a knight and sitting in on his father’s meetings with their people. His first two years after he gained Knighthood at the age of 18, Randolff spent roaming the country-side letting people get to know him and doing what he could to keep the peace. He was on the southern border of Tremaine when he ran into a group of bandits that were attacking a family of four. Randolff went to their rescue only to discover that they hadn’t really needed his help as a set of twins of about 12 years of age linked hands and set the trees around them to attacking those who would have killed them and their family. After about half-an-hour of talking with both the family and the bandits that were now trapped between tree-roots and ground, Randolff convinced the children to release the bandits into his company…in the morning. He spent the rest of the evening talking with the children’s parents, discovering that they were from a country called Arainia to the south of the Lambent Briarwoods, of which they were on the northern border of. When they parted company the next morning it was with Randolff’s promise to not speak of the Arainians unless the circumstances were dire, as elemental mages, they treasured their secrecy and didn’t want their children to be kidnapped by those who only wished to use them for their powers.
A few years later, Randolff married Rosalie, treasuring his sharp-tempered wife and the children they had in the following years. They’d thought Rosalie incapable of having more children when the Healers told them that she was pregnant again…five months along infact with a child that even then possessed Healing powers. Soon after Lexie Raye’s birth, the Healer’s tested her powers for the first time and decided that whe would be fine without training until she was a bit older, though they forewarned her parents that as a budding mind-healer the girl would likely dream of whatever the person who held her thought about and if they wished for a peaceful night they would worry about things when they weren’t touching her.
Fifteen years after that, Randolff accepted across his northern border a delegation from Detrimain. There had been skirmishes with them along the Waldgrave Chase forest spanning a good five years, resulting in prisoners being taken on both sides, the Tremainians not always returning as they once were. The peace talks were going well until they Detrimainians demanded Randolff’s youngest and most precious child to seal the peace treaty with a State Marriage between the two countries. Randolff refused. There had been rumors from those people that he’d gotten back that the Detrimainian’s twisted Healers so that instead of Healing they were harming, and he would not give them a mind-healer, especially when that healer was his daughter. A few weeks of arguments later, Randolff fell ill. The Detrimainians refused to deal with anyone other than the King, so they left when it became apparent that the King would not recover.
Weapon's skills: Skilled with both sword and throwing knives, favorite is the sword but its not polite for the king to openly wear weaponry during peace-talks.
Magical Abilities: A weak form of Telekenetics. He can move objects as heavy as a desk across the room.
Other: Is currently dying. Anyone who sees/speaks to him will find him pale and frail-looking. When he speaks it is in a whisper and as far many are concerned, nonsense as all he talks about are the Arainians, and his wish for Lexie Raye to not be in the Capital when the Detrimainians come.
Username: NPC
Character Name: Rosalie Summers
Character Age: 45
Career/apprenticeship: Queen of Tremaine
Physical Description:
Personality: Rosalie is a strict woman who cannot abide by things not being done ‘properly’ as in, USE TITLES WHEN IN HER PRESCENCE! Not very maternal, her ladies in waiting did most of the raising of her children than she did. Is often seen as cold.
Family: Royal Family of Tremaine
History: Grew up as the youngest daughter of one of Tremaine’s most powerful Nobles, Rosalie was promised to Randolff when she was 12. They married when she was nineteen. At twenty she gave birth to her first son, three years later to a second, three years later to her first daughter. After another three years had passed, Rosalie believed herself to be unable to have any more children and was secretly thankful. She’d learned with the first three that she wasn’t ‘motherly’ and the children cut into her work day. Believed to be the most Formal Queen Tremaine has had in 100 years (though no one would ever tell her that. When she had Lexie Raye a year after she believed herself incapable, Rosalie handed over her youngest daughters entire upbringing to her husband and ladies in waiting, never having time for the little girl that was so full of questions. Has given up on her husband surviving his illness and is already preparing for the mourning period and then her next husband.
Weapon's skills: None. Believes that women should not touch weaponry, it is a man’s job to protect.
Magical Abilities: None.
Username: NPC
Character Name: Daniel
Character Age: 25
Career/apprenticeship: Crown Prince of Tremaine and present acting Ruler
Physical Description:
Personality: Quiet and Serious, Daniel tries to see all sides of an argument, though he’d always side with his mother…at least to her face. Truly cares about his people. A bit stiffer than his father but he can on occasion relax.
Family: Royal Family of Tremaine
History: Raised mostly by his father and the Royal Guards, Daniel learned young how to ‘act like a man’. His mother’s influence (he received more of her attention than his brother or youngest sister did) ensured that he would never allow anyone outside his family to address him without his proper title. Recently took over as Acting Monarch as his father’s condition deteriorates. Agreed to allow Lexie Raye to go on her fools’ chase to get her out from under his feet and that of the Healers, never believed that his sister was a powerful Healer or that she was anything more than a minor annoyance no matter how many times she proved herself to be otherwise.
Weapon's skills: Sword.
Magical Abilities: a very small amount of empathy. Does nothing more than show him if someone is lying to him.
Username: NPC
Character Name: Drake
Character Age: 23
Career/apprenticeship: Prince of Tremaine, Knight
Physical Description:
Personality: Cheerful and energetic, Drake is seen as the ‘joker’ in the family. Aside from Lexie Raye he is the most like his father. He can be serious…fighting in any form is serious to him, as is Family. But he will make a joke out of nearly everything else.
Family: Royal Family of Tremaine
History: Raised by Guards and his father, Drake spent most of his time growing up with the Knights and the weapon’s master. Of all his siblings, Lexie Raye is his favorite and as a result…once she was old enough to be interesting (aka five or six) he let her hang out with him. When he started his training to be a Knight, Drake introduced his youngest sister to the Weaponsmaster and a few of the Guards that were about to be assigned their first posts. Those guards later became Lexie Raye’s personal Guard as none of the others could keep up with the curious little girl. While training for his Knighthood, Drake made friends with many of the other Noble sons and discovered a love of girls, though he cheerfully beat-up anyone who noticed her growing favorite sister. Upon achieving Knighthood, Drake set out to do as his father had, wander the country-side letting the people get to know him and performing the duties of a Knight. He returned three weeks ago when Lexie Raye’s letter telling him of their father’s ailing, reached him. Since then he’s been pressuring Daniel to send their little sister to her estates or somewhere that is not the palace. He generally joins Lexie in their father’s room around midnight and sits with her for a few hours, though he doesn’t think that she notices his prescence. Drake convinced Daniel to let Lexie Raye try to find the people their father had spoken of, knowing that of all of them, his sister knew their father the best.
Weapon's skills: Staff and Sword.
Magical Abilities: Telepathic Projection…medium strength. Drake can ‘convince’ someone of an idea so long as it doesn’t oppose their nature.
Other: Plans to return to his border-patrols soon after his sister leaves the Capital.
Username: NPC
Character Name: Amelia
Character Age: 20
Career/apprenticeship: Princess of Tremaine,
Physical Description:
Personality: Quiet and polite. Stickler for formalities.
Family: Royal Family of Tremaine
History: Spent the most time with her Mother, was sent to a Duchess’s home to further study what a princess should act like. Is presently at the Palace preparing for her upcoming engagement to a Duke. Thinks her sister is a nuisance. Is horrified when asked to do something not Lady-like or delicate in nature.
Weapon's skills: None
Magical Abilities: None.

Username: Bounces
Character Name: Venden Ryder
Character Age: 39
Career/apprenticeship: Soldier/Woodsman
Physical Description:Venden Ryder is not unattractive, and before the scars that now mar his body found their home some people even remember him being somewhat handsome. He has piercing, sometimes grey, sometimes green eyes that are said to be able to see a battlefield, a person, or an interaction, and size it up in an instant with a keen intellect. At one point in time he wore the armor and sash of an officer in the king's army. Now he is more at home in woodsman's garb that fades in to the browns and greens of a forest undergrowth. Lanky brown hair hangs about his face down to the jaw bone. It does not seem that Venden cares to groom it, or bother with the days-old stubble that grows on his scarred chin.
Personality:Those few people that interact with Venden daily now say that he is subject to dark moods and bouts of silence. His smile no longer brings any warmth to the eyes. Many servants have decided to work for much less rather than be on the Ryder estates.
Family: The Ryder family has been in Tremaine for as long as anyone else, although some rumors say that once, a long forgotten forefather of the Ryder family today immigrated from somewhere on the borders of the kingdom to central Tremaine and began making a name for himself as a hunter. As family legends go it is fairly simple, but it is really the only thing of note in the Ryder histories. Venden survives his parents and one older brother. His parents died in an accident over a decade ago while Venden was away at war. His brother Devar died in battle 5 years ago at the hands of Detrimainian soldiers raiding across the border.
History: Venden was an arms man in Tremaine's army from his early manhood and defended kingdom and crown with pride and honor. On two separate occasions he was recognized by the King personally for outstanding valor and leadership. All that ended though, along with his soldiering career, when he was captured by the armies of Detrimain in the last battles before the peace talks recommenced two years ago. One of the first orders of business of the peace talks was an exchange of war prisoners, and Venden was released after only a few short months. But the damage had already been done. Healers were able to repair his physical wounds in short order, but he was never the same again. The healers said there seemed to be some seed in his mind that they could not quite remove. They reported that when they touched it it felt like sadness, anger, and darkness. They tried to get him to talk about what happened during his captivity, but he was unwilling.
Venden was invited to retake his post as a lieutenant in the King's army, but it was quickly apparent that the change that had been wrought in him affected his ability in the battlefield, and his confidence in commanding others. He opted to take early retirement and was granted a small estate near the Dreixian woods outside the capital. Since then he has become more insular. His servants manage the estates and venture into the city when it is necessary. When they speak with other servants and arms men about their lord they say that he spends most of his time hunting in the wild or in front of a fire reading old memoirs of long dead generals. They also hear him laughing in empty rooms at times, and they fear for his sanity.
Weapon's skills: Venden is accomplished dualwielding a long and short sword, and has gained much experience with it in his years on the battle field. In recent years he has gained some passing ability with a horsebow and finds an opportunity to practice in the woods hunting. He is by no means an expert, but he can shoot arrows without hurting himself at this point, and sometimes even hits his target if the horse he is on isn't galloping too much.
Magical Abilities: Completely unknown to him, Venden has some Arianian blood in his lineage by way of his immigrant forefather. This blood gives him some minor ability with Earth magic, although it has never actively manifested itself. Up until now this magical ability has always been passively influencing his ability to understand the lay of the land and how animals move through it. It assists in his hunting and tracking abilities, and makes him quite accomplished in that regard.

Username: Aria Raye
Character Name: Lexie Raye Summers
Character Age: 16 (Lexie or Raye to her closest friends and Father)
Career/apprenticeship: Healer
Physical Description: 5'4" tall, Lexie has mint green eyes and light aburn hair that when left loose is waist length and slightly wavy. Her skin is lightly tanned from days spent in the Royal Gardens and woods collecting medicinal ingredients. Lexie prefers wearing light brown pants and a gold and green tunic most days. For court functions and when her father asks, Lexie will wear silk gowns in blues and rose tones.
Personality: Growing up at court, lexie has learned to be silent when necessary but she is a very opinionated young lady and not afraid to speak her mind most days. Is really very gentle with people and has a a great deal of patience.
Family: The fourth and youngest child of the Royal family of Tremaine, Lexie's father, Randolff 55, and mother, Rosalie 45, have two sons, Daniel 25 and Drake 23, and another daughter Amelia 20.
History: As the youngest daughter, and the most like their father, Lexie has been slightly spoiled by her father in that whatever she wanted to try she was allowed to. Her mother was constantly after her to act and dress like a proper young princess, like her older sister, but her father just laughed when she came in all muddy from a morning planting in the gardens and riding horses.
At the age 8, Lexie started training as a healer. Her mother was relieved, as were her sister and brothers as it meant they would no longer have to put up with Lexie following them to their lessons or hear their mother's complaints of how little their sister behaved like a proper princess. Lexie was 12 when she managed to convince one of her body-guards to give her serious self-defense lessons and 15 when she convinced them tha she didn't need a body-guard to follow her around on her rounds in the hospital.
When her father first fell ill, Lexie spent every waking moment in the library looking up causes of his symptoms and fell asleep with a book in hand at his bed-side every night. When her searches of the library proved fruitless, Lexie spent every moment she could at her father's side, listening to him when he was awake enough to talk. When he mentioned the Arianians, Lexie did a bit of research and then went to her mother and Daniel in hopes of something being done. Her mother dismissed her, having given up on saving Randolff's life. Later Daniel gave Lexie permission to try and find the Arianians if she truly thought their father wasn't just hallucinating.
Weapon's skills: Lexie can shoot a bow, thought her aim is medicore at best. She has a set of throwing knives strapped to her wrists that she's very good with. She also carries a dagger in her belt for emergencies.
Magical Abilities: Healer, specializing in healing the mind and viruses. Her empathy is good enough for her to be able to tell the mood of the people closest to her and for her to be able to trace pain to its source. She also has a VERY small amount of telekenetic ability. Only enough to move a light object, no heavier than a book, accross a room.

Career/apprenticeship: Weapon smith & Reeve of a local village guard
Physical Description: Laran has dark, chocolate brown skin. She is a large, muscular woman with broad shoulders, most likely from working in the forge. She wears a jeweled eye patch over one eye, a large scar covering the right side of her face beneath it. Her other eye is black- subtly flecked with silver and gold. Her mahogany hair is pulled back off of her face in a series of braids running along her skull and fastened together at the base of her neck. Her nose is broad and slightly crooked on her face- obviously set badly from a break.
Personality: Laran is blunt, forthright anda bit crude. She's friendly, she can come off as brisk and uncaring. She has a strong sense of justice and fair play. She is not overly feminine outwardly, but she is quite womanly in her heart.
Family: Laran's is married to a man called Kethel. The pair have no children, though Laran did give birth to two children, neither of which lived past their first year. Laran's parents live in the village with her, both of whom are renown weapon smiths. She has five younger brothers- Randall, Aloise, Amos, Anat (the last two are twins) and Vesper.
History: Laran was born in a small village on the border between Tremaine and Detremain. As such, she was born into struggle and conflict. Her parents, Garan and Amelia, are highly skilled smiths. Her father specializes in weapons and her mother armor. The Kaliya family name is renown along the border for their smithing abilities. Laran is the first born of the couple. She was followed by five brothers- the youngest, Vesper, only 17 now. The entire Kaliya family are smiths of one sort or another. As the struggles along the border grew worse, the Kaliya family moved further away from them.
However, Laran stayed, joining the soldiers along the border. She was just 16 when she joined up, but her strength from her already considerable years working in the forge made her an asset. She learned swordplay and can hold her own with most of the soldiery in that art- but her main skill lays in the use of the steel cape- more of a defensive than offensive weapon. She moved through the ranks of the border guard. It was here that she met her future husband Kethel. He's a knight serving the royal family- and quite a number of years older than she. She was respected by her fellow soldiers as she was often the one who fixed their broken weapons and armor.
When she was in her early twenties, the guard encountered a strong magical force of detremainians. The group that found their unit was larger and stronger than they. It was in this battle that Laran truly proved her worth. Ironically, after the battle was over is when Laran lost her eye. A truly monstrous bear found its way into the camp- specifically where the prisoners were being held. Laran could have left them all to die to the huge animal, but instead went to save them. The bear nearly ripped off half of her face as she tried to hold it back from the chained and shackled prisoners. She eventually managed to bring it down by herself as none of her fellow soldier would help her save the enemy. This earned her favor with the detremainians they had captured as prisoners.
She served in the border guard for ten years before going back to the village where her parents now live. A year after she left the guard, Kethel hunted her down and married her.
Laran works as a weaponsmith most of the time, but she also acts as the local Reeve. In her duties as the Reeve of her village, she acts as the captain of the watch, the local law enforcement and judge as well as a sort of leader or respected elder of the village. People come to her with their problems and when the village is threatened- either from the inside or outside, she is the one they call to settle the issue. She is known in the village for being both a ruthless and kindhearted- but above all fair in her duty as Reeve.
Now, Kethel is spending more and more time away from the village due to his duty to the crown. She focuses most of her time lately on her family. She is close with her parents and all five of her brothers and their families.
Weapon's skills: Respectable with a sword (preferring streamlined curved blades like the falcata) and quite skilled with the Steel Cape.
Magical Abilities: She has developed but untrained telepathic abilities. Her skill in this is more from necessity than from focused training.
Other: Laran enjoys reading and working in her forge for relaxation. Her mother made her her eye patch, forging the patch from metal and setting it with jewels for luck.
Other: Laran's eyepatch looks something like this: http://nga.gov.au/CrescentMoon/images/large/Buckle.jpg
Gems and their magically enhanced properties on the patch:
Blue (Aquamarine) gems = hearing
Purple (Amethyst) gems = presence sensing
Yellow (Amber)gems = helps fake depth perception
Clear (Quartz) gems - nothing, they're just pretty

Username: Zalge
Character Name: Jame Ryin
Character Age: 17
Career/apprenticeship: Mercenary, He'll do any job as long as he can hear the jingle of silver coins in his purse.
Physical Description:

Personality: Deep thinking, normally calm, and despite his willingness to take on any job, he is a bit of a coward though he tries not to express it. He tries his best to be brave, and stand up for justice, so that maybe one day he can redeem his deceased family.
Family: He is a member of a banished family of Arianians. His father, Mark Ryin, used to be a respected member of the Arianian guard. One day, though, the guard captain's wife attempted to seduce Mark and failed. She then accused him of the same offense and was banished along with his wife and two sons.
History: Not accepted by their own people, Jame's family were forced to become nomads. 2 years ago, Jame's parents were finally killed along with his brother by a huge group of highwaymen, outnumbering the party 3 to 1. He was able to escape by running away, not looking back once. He regrets it everyday, so he decided that he would become stronger, refining the skills his father taught him while he was alive. He seeks revenge on the group of highwaymen that took his family's lives.
Weapon's skills: He prefers Spears, Halberds, and Polearms and they are his specialty, as they are all basically the same and can be used with similar fighting styles. He also has some skill with swords, but not as much however.
Magical Abilities: Jame specializes in water elemental spells, with earth elemental being his secondary. He also can use the other elements, but to a far lesser degree.

I am glad to see the character sheets so I know who I am playing with now. I am excited to play with all of you!
Aria, suggestion for you. I am subscribed to both now, but given the ability to put in hyperlinks do you think it would be a good idea to put a link to the RP thread in the first post of our OOC thread and vice versa? It might make it more user friendly to new players that come in mid-game potentially.

Is there anything we should know about the town where the castle is (the capitol?)? Also, what is the common currency used? Gold? Silver? Are there any odd customs we should be aware of or can we just make some up?

Good points Moxie. Currency is gold,Silver, and copper coins. Gold Crowns are the largest (about 100 dollars) Gold Half-crown (50), Silver crown (25) Silver half-crown (12), Copper Crown (10), copper half-crown (5) nothing lower.
Customs can be made up. the major holidays for all are mid-summer and mid-winter festivals. Both are week-long festivals, the longest day (mid-summer) and longest night (mid-winter) of the year being in the middle of each week. Gifts are exchaned on that day in mid-winter and a day-long celebration is held in mid-summer.
For the rest it is up to you. If anyone has any particular ideas of suggestions for each country's particular customs, please let me know and I'll put together a list. :D

Aria, I hope you don't mind...but I am naming the capital city, primarily because I am getting tired of calling it capital city...If you do not like the name please feel free to tell me what you would like it named and I will edit my post accordingly. It is your world after all, we are just the players.
So from this day forth, until such time as Aria says otherwise, the name of the capital of Tremaine shall be...Tremaine City, although most of the residents simply call it the City. Anyone that you speak with in Tremaine knows that when you refer to the City you mean Tremaine City, the capital.
On a completely unrelated note, I challenge you Moxie, to the longest posting! :P

Oh happy postings! Don't worry about really long posts Moxie, I personally like 'em. :D Tremaine City sounds perfect Bounces...My brain refused to focus on a city name for the capital for some reason. Hee hee, ah well! In other news we have another male character!! YEAH!! Venden shall not be alone! Welcome Jame Ryin, the young Arianian Mercenery!
ok, I think I'm done babbling now. I'm going to go read the wonderful work you lovely people have done and get my own 'blurb' up there before I work on a map for us! (it won't be a very good map, my scanner's broken so I have to use paint shop but it shall be a map!)
Oh! Before I go...anyone got any good forest names? We need two of them...A thinner forest to the north and a much denser forest to the south...mountains to the east and west...yes, alas Tremaine has no need for a navy...the biggest body of water is an as yet unnamed River that cuts the country in two kinda diagonal-like...well, you'll see this afternoon... Wish me luck! :D
Hee hee...I wrote ALOT...ok, time to focus on a map!

Forest names hmmm...?
How about Lambent Briarwood for one (lambent is a nice word meaning shining or reflective). And...hmmm...Waldgrave Chase. Waldgrave is an old German title for count- so Waldgrave chase would be sort of like a Noble woods or The Count's Woods.

Moxie, I noticed that you didn't name the small village where Laran was living yet, If you want to do that I can put it on the map as well, and Bounces, I know Venden came in the west gates of Tremaine City, but any preferance on how far north or south in the west I put your estates?

I did, she signed her letter as Reeve of Templedown Provincial Village. So the name of her village is Templedown.
She was originally from a village on the border. I hadn't really thought of a name for that one, but how about Steelwithy (withy is another word for willow).

Perfect! Maps are fun...and the more places (that our characters have been to of course) that we can name the easier it'll be for people to understand how far we've gone and blah blah blah... I should have the map almost done by tonight...it takes longer using my computers paint program.

I would prefer southward...but not to terribly far from the City. It is supposed to be about a days ride west by southwest of Tremaine City (at least in my head). So given that, probably no more than about 30 miles outside the city...on a line about 20 degrees south of east-west...that comes to about 10 miles on a north/south line and 28 miles on an east/west line.
Is that to complicated? It doesn't have to be exact obviously.

nope! not complicated at all. It's just about perfect. We'll see what I can come up with by midnight, that'll at least give us a rough sketch to work off of. If you wouldn't mind taking a look at it tomorrow Talitha and attempting better I'd appreciate it...Like I said (somewhere) before, my scanner died on me so I'm stuck using the generic Paint program found on most computers...not exactly a good tool for a pretty-ful map. but it'll work.
Any other suggestions please lemme know!

It'll be on the first page where the character list is...that way it doesn't get lost in the posts.
Thanks much!!
