Watercolor
Recently I've been getting into watercolors. I love color and painting but I haven't done anything with it in so long and I'm extremely out of practice. So any critiques you have feel free to 'let me have it' lol. Watercolor as a medium is still relatively new to me but so far it's a lot of fun to work with, just not very predictable.....although knowing me that's probably what makes it so much fun lol. Anywho, here are a few of my favorites that I've done recently:
My crazy Genie that is actually based on the Nine of Cups in my friends new tarot deck. I like the contrast of the cool tones used for him versus the accents of gold and the warm toned background http://www.deviantart.com/download/1...rder_Chaos.png Next is an eel mermaid I drew on top of a blue to green gradient wash. The background isn't very detailed and I could have done more with it but I like the way the colors bled together to get the terrain effect. This is the one everyone else tends to like the most for some reason. http://www.deviantart.com/download/1...rder_Chaos.png And my favorite out of all of them is my flower girl. If you look at her upside down she's a flower. I look back on it and think I could have given her a leaf to hold in her hand and made her hair look more like roots to give it extra symbolism but as simple as she is I still like her. http://www.deviantart.com/download/1...rder_Chaos.png Comments? Critiques? Opinions? Glowing reviews? Or just wanna gush about your own watercolors and/or share some ideas/techniques? |
Nicely done! I can't watercolor myself though I'd like to learn. I really like the shading in the flower girl's dress. It looks silky and very petal like.

Thank you! I found this really great book called Dreamscapes that I learned how to watercolor from.

Wow, what beautiful watercolor pictures! I especially love the color of the eel mermaid, a really nice blend of cool colors.
The third picture sort of concerns me, I think the girl's waist might be too long. And as for the first picture, the tail of the genie looks a little slimmed down too much (the line of the tail is too thick, be careful of when you're coloring lines). I really don't have anything on the second on, I think it just became my favorite picture I have seen this week. XD Keep up the good work. : D |
I love how u draw them very artistic and creative esspacially with the water colors most people sketch ...

The reason her waist is so long is because she is a flower. I wanted to give her a sylph like feel and elongated and slimmed her limbs to look more like the stem of a flower. Thanks for the critiques though, I never would have noticed the mistakes on the genie if you hadn't said anything. And thanks everyone for all the lovely comments :D

wow, you're a great watercolourist. i too have been really getting into watercolour. your technique looks amazing. how you get decent refined lines with water colour? i'm in love the flower girl, the style is gorgeous.
|
I absolutely adore that eel mermaid girl. Ocean backdrops always get me. C: You did excellent on all the watercoloring pieces overall. Lovely work. (:
That genie does look good as well. (: |
Thank you :D It's all about how much you water down the paint and how thin the brush is. If you keep the paint thick, use a 0 or 1 point brush and let the outline dry before doing the rest you can get defined lines easily enough :)

ahh okay, thankyou :)
-starts sketching up ideas for next painting- |
