Harry Potter OC

Alrighty. This is my Harry Potter OC. Basically me as a Slytherin. xD I'd like some C+C on the anatomy of the arms, since I cropped out the rest, and on the colouring. It was done in SAI. Basically he is jumping, and the snake thing in his left hand is a sword. Not a Sword of Slytherin like the Sword of Gryffindor, but a family heirloom. Nor is it goblin-made. Well, any tips would be loved, since this is basically the first thing I've done in SAI, so I haven't totally gotten the hang of it yet. And no hatin' on Slytherin. I'm not evil, just ambitious. :D |

Hello! This is really amazing; I've never had the opportunity to CG anything, but I know from seeing other art on deviantart that you're a really gifted artist!! I'm sorry that I cant help when it comes to coloring, but I can help with anatomy. ^^
First off: the neck and head seem to be bent, like he is ducking his head. Usually the back tends to arch a little as well, so it would be good to have him look like he is bending over slightly. Also, since his head is slightly turned, it would look more natural to have his entire body angled the same direction as his face. His abs also look a little wide; I like to use this reference when drawing shirtless guys ;) http://julianthekid.deviantart.com/art/abs-129416742 Secondly: Since you asked about the arms, I think you could make them look a little more realistic if they were raised higher; maybe have his arms at about the same height as his face or shoulders. Also: His face looks a little expressionless around the eyes, particularly when he's baring his teeth. Try wrinkling the nose a little, just at about eye-level, or lowering the eyebrows--perhaps even narrowing the eyes. I really hope this helps; you're very talented and I like your style--particularly your skill with wrinkling his clothes! ^^ oh, ps, i dont think the collar should be quite so high... ^^;; ANYWAY, I hope that you get some help with the coloring, and I'd love to see the finished piece when you're done! Thank you very much for your critique. You brought certain things to my attention that I didn't focus on, like how I would agree that the abs seem a little too wide. ^__^
I'm really bad with eyes and noses, which is why they ALWAYS seem characterless. ;_; I need to work on those more. I bent his neck on purpose, because he's mid-jump. He's jumping down to attack. I feel I always end up just drawing someone eye-level head on, and then ends up getting boring so I try mixing things up, to improve my anatomy. But again thank you for the critique. Some things were a little too big to redo now, since it'd require me basically redrawing and recolouring major parts, but I'll try working on his face a bit and make his abs smaller. THANKS! :D |
