origami Lucky stars: the addiction

anyone else make these?

I Can't get enough of these pretty little things. I started making them about five years ago and i go in spurts of making them.

they are pretty easy for origami, but they don't use the traditional square piece of paper. They need long skinny strips of paper to make them.
Heres a youtube video if you want to see how to make them.

You can make your own strips of any size..Ive made some that are smaller than my pinky fingernail and some as big as my palm.

there are 1544 stars! Almost all made by myself...there's a few made by friends and family as I taught them.

317 blue
198 pink
181 green
145 red
133 yellow
128 silver
102 orange
81 purple
70 white
68 brown
65 gold
56 black

below are my pics of them.

Feel free to post your Origami stars or other origami pics that you have done. :D

Free artwork is sometimes given to those who hang out here.... :D

Oh a good place to get paper is ebay...just type in origami lucky stars and you'll find bunches.

Aw those are really cute actually. xD
Have you thought about drawing cute chibi faces on some of them? Kinda like the star catcher items here?

Here is an example: xD

Yet those are done in paint/photoshop, not actually hand drawn.

OOO yesh! That would be fun... Definitely my next group will be of those...

lol I loved those things in like 8th grade. xD I bought a cicrular canister from some anime shop in the mall and had them mostly done by the next month. I think I used them as confetti at graduation though. o.o good times. xD I should get some supplies to make more. they're cute as decorations. (:

They are! Me and mys sister made some bigger ones and then used needle and thread and used it to make a Christmas garland one year.

Anyhow.... I havea whole Jar of these things! I love them just a little too much! I tend to put my pinkies next to them when I do a photoshoot. I should start doing custom ones huh?

Silverbeam 07-27-2009 10:14 PM

Wow, the 2nd shot is incredible! They look more like beads than tiny hand crafted paper stars :squee:

I've never made one before, but I think I'll try making one now...

Silverbeam 07-27-2009 10:29 PM

they are way fun...Hmm now I want to make some......

beagirl1227 07-27-2009 10:55 PM

Aw they're adorable! ^^ my friend taught me how to make them out of notebook paper--making them is so addicting!
You should sell them as decorations or something in bundle packs of like 12. It would look adorable as maybe a packing cushion for a really cute gift. ^^

Do they actually sell the paper in strips? O.o or do you have to cut it yourself?

HamletSpamlet 07-27-2009 11:11 PM

I just made mine from printer paper... it's kinda wonky looking haha

Silverbeam 07-27-2009 11:15 PM

they sell them in strips all over Asia..... my sister lives in Taiwan and gets them for me, or I order them from china, and all over from EBAY.

HamletSpamlet: WOW! That's is excellent for your first one! Congrats!

HamletSpamlet 07-27-2009 11:22 PM

Thanks Silver! :D
I think it looks better because I'm holding the deformed point...

Silverbeam 07-27-2009 11:48 PM

I learned how to do those way back in 6th grade. Everyone in my class was making them, LOL I had over a hundred in my desk. I think I'll keep a collection in like a jar of something now.

Silverbeam 07-28-2009 04:39 AM

I'd love to see a pic of it when you make it.
