some mermaid-octopus thing (not really, since there's 5 tentacles XD)
topless, not detailed tho.

I was practicing (hai graph paper) and wanted to color with pencils.
Except.. I don't have any atm and just went for Open Canvas!

I am not a fan of drawing with a mouse ..besides my style being completely different.. lining my sketches is not fun.
My hand isn't steady. :gonk:

I used a reference picture for .. most.. of the body
and that's basically my first decent drawn hand

Psst what programs do you color with?

Ah, it's pretty :] The face and torso are really well drawn, although the arms and tentacles seem a little sloppier. The fingers are a little too long and thick.
The face really stands out, especially the eyes. Really pretty.
A great and relatively inexpensive program is Paint Tool Sai, which runs for like 5400 Japanese Yen, which is about 60 USD if I'm not mistaken.

Very nice so far. I do agree that the fingers are a bit thick. Also the hair is sitting a bit too close to the head for it to be swaying like that. It makes the head look a bit more malformed. You're heading in the right direction (no pun intended), giving the hair more volume would remedy this problem and give more of an impression of being under water.

What appears to be one finger may actually be two? You seem to have some light lines there that you just didn't darken. Unlike the others, I don't think the fingers are thick... I think they're just undefined. The tentacles aren't 'sloppy' to me, they're just unique in their own way. If I were a mer... octopus... thing... I'd probably want longer tentacles, but there's only so much page you have to work with.

And that's colored pencil? Wow!

I just meant if you look at like.. The lower right hand side the lines are a little less smooth.

I love the hair and that upper body. If you just change the bottom half. The picture will look great.

I actually like sloppy. That's how I draw all of my octopus..tentacles. But yeah I just didn't bother to define or shade anything since I tend to ruin things that way haha! The pen tool wasn't agreeing with me that night, it looks lighter and pixely in spots. YUCK

OH the hair was inspired by a character in a web comic that I love.
I mean, it is an octopus girl but I didn't mean for it to be under water. (Totally makes sense! XD)

I have a tablet & art supplies now. YAY XMAS. so I'll probably just redo it one way or the other.

Why change the bottom half?

thanks for commentin'!

i think that her head looks way too big and the hair only makes it look bigger. i understand that ur trying to give it that wavy underwater look but its not working...just sayin. The highlights in the hair could have used more attention but everything else seems fine.

Overall, the picture looks okay, except it's hard to tell what you're going for with the pose. Her upper body looks like she's stationary, but the bottom half looks like she's hanging in midair. I would search for some pictures of octopi floating or moving over rocks. If she's supposed to sitting still, it might also help to draw in some rocks to help with the positioning of the tentacles. If you need references for the tentacles, I suggest looking up both octopi, but also search for images of cecaelia as well since that's sort of what you're drawing.

I thing the tentacles are too small compared to the body?
the body shape is very nice though

Nice, but the hair is a little big on the left near the top.

Lets see... its really pretty *-* but i think her nose looks strangely or rather unusually large for her petite and delicate features and to improve it i believe maby those octopus tentacles should be more wild and free looking if you know what i mean >3<
