art dump... realistic-ish

Self portrait. It pretty much looks exactly like me; people recognize me when they see this in my sketchbook.

A lamp. Most people don't see it, but overall I like the feel of this piece.

Her face looks too long, but actually I think that makes it funnier.

Wow, these are quite beautiful! :D And so unusual. I'm surprised nobody's posted here yet!
It's hard to make a real comment on them to be frank because I'm so unaccustomed to an art style like yours, but I will say the first is my favourite. :) I find it terribly impressive how you manage to put your own spin on things while still preserving the neccessary realism.

Hug 01-17-2010 10:10 PM

Thank you ;3;

I'm surprised nobody's really commented... there's like 17 views. :c

Huffie 01-18-2010 04:23 PM

You're quite welcome!
Yes, it's really very peculiar! Perhaps because a lot of people here (like myself!) are quite used to manga styled artwork, they might find it a little challenging making a comment on something very different like your work. :) And it doesn't help I'm sure that the art posting forum seems so terribly slow!

They're all so wonderful, but I particularly like the second one. The texture and color usage is fantastic.

Shirima 01-19-2010 04:14 AM

Thats cool

Ayco83 01-20-2010 03:53 AM

Whooah. Amazing.

Imaginative Sarah 01-20-2010 05:17 AM

Wow they are very unique looking and whatnot and the texture on them...cool wish i could do that

HamletSpamlet 01-20-2010 08:02 AM

Love the portraits. :D

Would you mind explaining the last one in a little more detail? I'm curious.

Hug 01-21-2010 06:59 PM

sure ^-^

I have auditory processing disorder... hard to explain. Um, you know how dogs hear a dog whistle, but people can't? There's actually a lots of tones that people /aren't/ supposed to hear. Except I hear them- not the tones individually, but noises that have those tones. So I'm constantly distracted- I can hear the radiator louder than my teacher's voice, I can't hold a conversation with more than two people, etc. I cope by purposely tuning out things that are painful and by not listening to music.
Although this isn't testable like the auditory processing disorder, I'm pretty sure that all my senses are messed up. I can't smell skunk (or many other things, but some stuff seems to effect me more than it would effect other people). Some colors hurt to look at. My first word was 'napkin' because as a baby I couldn't stand the feel of food on my face.

So I wanted to draw something that I felt, like my hair feeling the same as my alpaca sweater, and how I tune out noises, and how my brain picks colors apart until there aren't any.

You're really talented Hug, I really love the last one and your explanation for it is really interesting :)
The first one is my favorite though.

Krusadin 01-22-2010 12:47 PM

Your work is full of emotion. It's almost a little disturbing to look at but that's what makes it so interesting. I have never seen anything quite like this. I like the first two pictures from the top and the very last one the most. The first: because it's just plain wicked. The second one reminds me of a mermaid because of the texture and colours...the model looks almost scaly. And after reading your description I think you captured what you feel perfectly with the last drawing.

Hug 01-22-2010 06:41 PM

Thanks, guys<3

I'mma add another one ;3;

Krusadin 01-22-2010 06:50 PM

Do you use watercolours for these? And ink?

Hug 01-22-2010 08:15 PM

first one is ink, and spit (spit makes it smudge, water doesn't. I don't know why)
second is watercolor and ink
third is ink, spit, blue ink, and pencil
fourth is pastel
fifth is ink
the last two are ink and acrylic paint

all of them were done on a watercolor moleskine

Huffie 01-22-2010 11:20 PM

I quite agree with Aoi Midori...you explanation was quite fascinating. :)

I really like the new one you added there, it offers a slightly uneasy feeling, what with everything but his pallid skin and the strawberry being very dark. :) A little 'other-worldly'. Is your brother a ghost by any chance?

Hug 01-23-2010 11:09 PM

hahaha xD

-adds another- (I drew my avatar 8D )

Krusadin 01-24-2010 04:02 AM

The last one is pretty sweet! Is it all digital or did you line it with real ink?

Hug 01-24-2010 06:11 PM

real ink... I'm still getting used to my tablet. x3

Morbid_Silence 01-27-2010 07:14 PM

cool. I love your style. (:

Deletris 01-27-2010 07:37 PM

o.o I love the first two~!! The colors in the second picture is truly blinding *-* all those pretty colors....

Li_the_were_lion 01-27-2010 11:45 PM

i love the second picture. the various lines and colors really work with each other to make the unique form
