Color&Critique
This is my fursona/persona/avi art, Kaoru. Hence my name.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...nama_tradi.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...nama_tradi.jpg Alright. 1.) Should I color this? 2.) If so, what colors do you have in mind? - Her hair is black, skin; tanned. Tail is black, and the ribbon on her tail is red. Flame color, kimono color, and background ideas are appreciated muchly. 3.) Some [light] critique. I take heavy as personal attacks. It's the pessimist in me.. Thanks! |
Depends on what you will use for colouring and will you be able to backup the lineart? If you colour digitally, there's very little possibility in destroying the original so go ahead. No harm in trying.
For the background, maybe you could draw a forest in autumn colours and some moths or fireflies around the flame? If it's dark, that is. Sunset would look nice too and provide a neat backlight. As for the flame, make it orange. It's kind of common flame colour but works well if the kimono is red. |
this is a very beautiful picture.
what i would recommend is make a copy of the original and color the copy. i know it sounds kind of odd, but if i draw something and i'm not sure about the coloring portion, i make a copy of the original, then color the copy so that if i doesn't look right or i change my mind about the coloring, i'll still have the original. i acctually have few like that... =) |
Oh, I guess I forgot to mention that, lol.
I use traditional mediums. My tools of the trade specifically are Prismacolored pencils, and that's what I'm going to be using. I should also apologize for the size of the picture here. I didn't realize it was that small.. I always back up my lineart before I start coloring, so there are no worries there. =) Thank you for the comments, I appreciate it! @Krusadin I was playing around with some colors in my head, and I was taking the direction that you mentioned; what with the traditional orange flame. I think I will stick with that. The band around her waist, I was thinking red, or a really dark orange. But that leaves the negative space behind the flames on her kimono open for colors that I'm not sure of. I don't want to do it white. I think that would be too plain. I could do it in a really light yellow, but I don't want it to distract from the color of the flames themselves, y'know? Maybe I'll make some copies and just do some testing to see what works. I'll try to post it up if I can! Thanks for the help, guys! ;) |
Very nice picture.
Sadly due to it's size I can't do too much in the way of critiquing. XD As for the colors. I say have her in warm colors. Theres a couple of different color schemes you can go with. The main one I recommend would be a Tetrad: So far it's already been established that she will be red and most likely the tan will be a lightened version of yellow-orange. If you were to draw a perfect square on a color wheel it would show the other two corresponding colors being green and blue-violet. I would recommend using the cool colors behind the character in order to make her pop out more. Complimentary colors like that make it really easy to lead the viewers' eye. Another one would be a triadic color scheme. Thats when it's just a triangle on the color wheel. So if the tan you are using is a bit closer to a yellow you could just use the main primaries... so red, yellow and a blue background. |
