My First Menewsha Avvie Art

Yeah, it's not so great. I can't draw feet to save my life, but hey, practice right? X3
(And yes, I realize that her hair looks like a wad... of stuff. lol)

The hair is fine! I like it! What is REALLY off with your work is the way her body is twisted! It looks so completely unnatural. Plus her hands aren't doing much. You could have given them something to do, making the work look more relaxed and natural.

I can't tell what exactly she's supposed to be doing or how she's lying down. Try using foreshortening instead of raising her leg up in the air.

Jamethial 02-21-2010 09:19 AM

@Masked_egg
Actually, her leg isn't supposed to be raised up. It's more like in the background. But obviously I don't have much experience in drawing people lying down. Gotta practice. ;D
As for the hands, I never know quite what to do with them. I guess I'm pretty boring in nature and it's reflected in my drawing...

MoodyBats 02-21-2010 09:55 AM

wow its amazing!i love how you did the anatomy!its lovely keep up the good work

Jamethial 02-21-2010 10:04 AM

@TheDesireMistress
Thank you very much. :D
I find that I can twist like that (comfortably) irl so I didn't really think there was anything wrong with it. XP

Lying down in front of a mirror or have someone pose the way you want and take a picture. A reference is always a good way to practice! :) You obviously have a lot of potential! Your colors for one are fantastic!

Jamethial 02-21-2010 08:47 PM

@masked_egg
Why thank you! :D
I'm just soooo lazy. haha! It's somewhat of a hassle to take pictures because when I get the urge to draw I don't have time to take pictures of actual people, so I like to use various picture books as reference. (Like CLAMP books and other manga.)

And thanks for the critique. :3 It's much appreciated. >3<

Do you draw as well? Got a dA?

I really love this picture. I don't really find anything wrong with the way her body is, she's so sleek it's gorgeous. And I love her hair, it looks fabulous. : D

Thanks. :D Do you think if I made her leg darker it would look like it was farther back? >3<

Aw! I'm so flattered! Thank you. X3
I'm so glad everyone seems to like her hair. I've never tried it that way before so I was a bit nervous on how it would be taken.

Miserine 02-22-2010 02:32 AM

I like the proportion of the legs, arms, hands, feet. The placement of the arms and legs aren't very natural looking. I think that's the only problem really. Maybe a little too much hair on the left side, you could make it look more like the right side maybe. The left leg on the panda bear looks smaller than the right leg. It is very good otherwise. The arms might be a little too long, it's hard to tell.

MoodyBats 02-22-2010 02:35 AM

Jamethial
That might work.

My DA's crap. Old stuff haha :D And I never post my decent work but I can give it to you if you want anyway. Do you DA?
I'm actually an art student so I've picked up a few tricks. The huge mirror in my room is actually my savior :D

CLAMP has very pretty art but I wouldn't recommend them as your references if you're a new artist. It's always good to get your basics right the first time instead of having to undo bad habits you picked up and start all over from scratch if you DO want to pursue art seriously. :P

No problem! I enjoy critiquing >D

Meh. I'm not interested in making my art look realistic. And I'm not new at this really. I've been doing it for years. My better medium just happens to be making jewelry. lol
But I don't have to look at your dA. I was just curious. :D
And yes, I do. X3 Would you like mine?

mishi-hime 02-22-2010 08:46 PM

The pose just looks really unnatural. Next time find a picture of someone laying down. Hands also need a lot of work.
Also, it's kinda odd to color and shade part of the picture but crosshatch and tone the panda. you should probably just color that in.

PrincessBane 02-24-2010 01:58 AM

You're very welcome. x3

hmm i like it but add a background to make it look better he feet are kinda awkward

Jobunneh 02-24-2010 05:37 AM

I don't know what you're talking about with the hair, I think it's gorgeous. The only thing that I can see that you could work on are hands and feet and maybe a little on facial features. The face isn't horrible, it just looks a little misshapen. I think the pose is okay, to me it looks like she's laying on a big, invisible, comfy sofa, lol. And it almost looks like she's in the process of getting comfy, like she's moving. I agree with what masked_egg said, I think you have a lot of potential. C:

I'm going to go browse your DA gallery nao. ;O Hehe.

Oh, and I wanted to ask. What do you use to color your art with? Copics? I love the way you color skin.

apocalypse rei 02-25-2010 04:08 AM

If her leg is in the background, it should be a little shorter than the front one. It's foreshortening. It will look more natural.
