Hi there! I like your art! You're seem to have a good understanding of the volume of hair from her head. Also some creases on her dress shows you've got the idea. Practicing proportion of anatomy, stood upright is good to practice. Just drawing sketchy bodies is good to get yourself used to the shape. This is what I should be practicing too. It's good to get your proportions natural.
Anyway, well done! What program did you use?

Omigosh thank you so much for responding!! I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, at least accoding to the opening menu thing. I could swear it was Photoshop Elements...

Anways thanks for the advice :D I really do doodle all day long, I get in trouble for it a lot XD This was my first real attempt at posing, so I'm sorry if the proportions aren't great, They're usually better XD

You're so lucky to have Photoshop CS3! I should doodle more often. I don't seem to have the patience with my own drawings and I just get annoyed when I can't get it the way I want, haha. I'd love to see some other art of yours if you going to post any more!

I know how you feel, I always used to be like that XD I'm a Gemini so I'm known for self-hating and not feeling like it's good enough! I'll probably post some more tonight, seeing as it's 7:53 right now and I have to leave the house at 8:30!

Sorry, I've been uber busy lately. In fact I should be doing homework right now... XD I was experimenting with ways to do hair, this style being a bit more unstructured and realistic(?) then my normal style. What do you think?

Hm. It's a good start but we need moar practice. I would start using referances and doing tutorials from people whose colour you really enjoy in order to improve; generally that's the best way to learn a program you're unfamiliar with. Also, are you drawing with a mouse? Your lines are really, really messy and chopped up, so the lack of smooth lines makes me wonder what you're using. Practice longer strokes, where possible.

Keep working on it!

@ Serapheil I use a Bamboo Fun tablet, I just draw with short lines, a habit I'm TRYING to break, and thanks for the advice, I'll look up some tutorials next time I have a chance to :D

@ ToreshiiChan It's a bit hard to explain, but I use varying different colours and kind of smudge them all together. It ends up looking really hard, but it's a really simple process as long as you keep organized (AKA naming the layers XD)

Hey I did another one I liked (the last few haven't been going so well, just incomplete practices)

and I show you... A completed practice XD

I used a reference for this one, didn't take much time with it (hence the lack of clothing folds, shading fail and sketchy lines) but fell in love with the lineart so decided to colour it. Yes I know the girl looks a bit like an alien, but I'm faaar too lazy to fix that XD

biggest tip i will suggest is to start drawing your skeltons and the actual structure of a body before drawing the actual person. Right now its pretty obvious your drawing it as a whole instead of starting with a base structure and working up. doing this will help you learn proper proportions and anatomy as well as making things look solid

deviant art has some amazing tutorials
this is my personal fave collection of tutorials i find helpful, but you should definitely do a search of _________ tutorial (aka ear tutorial; hand tutorial)

Tutorials collected by rishnea on deviantART

First of all, thanks for the tutorial link! I could use some tutorials....

and second of all...

I actually do use bases XD
See?
(Note draw with mouse on Paint)
I'm just lazy with them and skip this step:

and I do this:

which isn't really using the base at all. I know this is a bad example, but my computer with photoshop is in a bad mood so I had to use paint, and I changed methods half way through (from lines to head on pencil) but anways, thank you for pointing that out!

Do you have your other dynamics enabled? That could be why the lines are coming out the way they are.

[both opacity and flow jitters need to be set to pen pressure at 0% if you're using a tablet with photoshop]

dynamics? what? I don't have my tablet fully installed because I lost the CD, so it's nothing like that.... it's just how I draw. I can't draw lines very well, so I make them sketchy. I quite like the look, personally, but it's not very professional (but then again, art's just a hobby to me) should I practice using less sketchy lines?

If you have a wacom tablet you can download all the software you need free from their website.
Other dynamics/pen pressure are under your brushes tab on photoshop

sketchy lines are fine [I draw with sketchy lines]
pen pressure helps the colours blend better.

[under shape dynamics 'size jitter' should also be set to pen pressure if you want the lines to have a point and not end so bluntly]

Sooo does this look a bit better line-wise?

Quick half an hour sketch so it's rather... sketchy.
And is it really vain to draw your own avatar? whatever....

Another one :D I took my time with the bases for this one, does it look any better? Never mind the legs, I REALLY need to practice/be less lazy with them :/
