Base coat that was a couple shades lighter than the darkest strand. Then did two darker strands and 3-5 lighter strands. And some dark bigger shading in a few spots (darker than base, lighter than darker strands).

In all honesty, I'm really surprised I was able to pull that off. I suck at hair. XDDD

I think what I did was a method I did before though, just without some "special effects." Let me find the tutorial. P:

I just kept all the strands as 1pt and didn't use luminosity.
The gist is the same.
Base, then darks, then lights.

Ah, damn. It's SAI. I still have no idea how to work SAI.

On Photoshop, I use my pen, usually set at 2 - 4 pixels wide, and get a rough lineart of everything first. Then I use the same width, on a different layer, retrace everything so it's neater, and then use a base coloring. Then start giving it different strips and stuff...basically the same as Iku's method, but the lines are far wider. ;; So it's more of a manga-styled hair rather than realistic.

Yeah, depends on the style you want too. Manga/anime style is hard.

But you are right, his face ended up looking a little strange when it was colored in. the others look damn fine, tho

I think any style can be difficult. it just depends on the person. My artwork is kinda semi-realistic, but more on the anime side.

AND I WILL NEVER LEAVE DEM BOYS ALONE.
I will chase them around in my mind and force them to be in my harem.
because I usually do stuff like that in my mind.
