WIP & such--Recommendations?

Updated as of June 1st 2007.

Adding a few things. I've been away a long time. But it was a very nice breather. I had finals, so those 2 or 3 weeks I wasn't here at all. Then I had summer vacation--brief since I have summer school...but I visited a few friends of mine and it was great. Made me realize how much I was missing out on, being tied down with RL and online commissions. Also realized how little space I have and how much stuff I have when I had to put things into storage. Decided therefore, to stop online commissions and stop art trades since I have no place to put em.

Real money is great; I can pay for things with it. What the heck would I do with online gold? I can't do anything with it. Therefore, cancelled current online commissions at least for the time being. It's not worth breaking my back over, and spending so much on materials.

I've been too lazy to drag it to school to try to get it scanned in. I don't think the compy labs are open over summer break anyhow.

Again, I don't really give a damn about the quality of this webcam pic; I'll fix it later. This is a temporary thing till I get off my lazy ass and drag it these to Kinko's or something.

@[email protected] I never learned how to use oils ;o; <3 /much respect/

ScarletStratholme 03-15-2007 05:38 PM

But your watercolors are amazing! I never learned how to do watercolors. T_T' Yours are so bright and the colors are so pretty.

heather_54 03-17-2007 01:36 AM

omg i seriously couldnt find anything wrong O-o?
TT-TT you're good....to good...;D

musado 03-17-2007 01:38 AM

for the oil painting i think chii's neck's positioned a bit awkwardly

maybe a bit more forward? x3

but lovely lovely works *A* <3 wish it wasn't so blurry ;_;

ScarletStratholme 03-17-2007 03:32 PM

Really? I kinda thought on that one maybe that I'd made the back of her dress a little weird, but I feel that if I move the neck forward, that'd be even weirder since your neck isn't attached to your chest at your chin but rather towards the back of your head. ^^'

I think for me the part that bugs me about the second picture is where the window in her shirt ends, at the back. Slightly awkward angle. Maybe will try to minimize that weird point later. I think if I move the neck forwards though, it'd be a little weird. I'm not sure. =/ Hrms.

stilettolover 03-17-2007 04:30 PM

Well if you're going for accuracy, the first one is exactly the same as the official art. =| Soo.. I wouldn't change anything..

In fact, they're both exactly like official art...

I like your version of the picture with the moon, except that chii stands out too much. She looks too anime, to cel versus the smooth painting of the background. She almost looks pasted on afterwards.

Harkem 03-17-2007 04:56 PM

your painting skills are awesome O_O

but I don't know...they're a little bit too official to me ^_^ Its understandable if its fanart but you still can insert a little bit of your own style to make it more unique and interesting!

ScarletStratholme 03-17-2007 11:22 PM

^^ Glad of it, because the first was a commission for Befu, and the second was one for Star, and both were just asked for as is, they didn't really ask for changes, so I didn't change a thing. :)

On the second, that it stands out I think is due to maybe two different styles of painting on there. Chii stands out because I used sharper, cleaner lines, but the background I tried to paint more my way, softer. ^^' The first I was able to do with more ease because the style that was in was softer. :) Interesting though. Maybe I should avoid cel-type. Or at least not blend the two. ^^'

Ty for the input. :) I'll definately keep it in mind for future anime-esque paintings.

ScarletStratholme 03-17-2007 11:26 PM

Should I redo the second? The more I think about it the more I want to repaint it. =/ Probably would make it all soft style. But I'm worried because I also have a lot of other ones I need to, absolutely must finish also because one of them is for an RL anniversary for some friends of mine, along with two for WoW which are supposed to be done in the next two weeks or so. If I procrastinate those and repaint this one, I'm worried I won't have time. =/ But it's kind of bugging me the way the second one looks. x_x''

I dunno, is it bad enough to warrant a redo?

ScarletStratholme 03-17-2007 11:27 PM

Meh, going to Pm em and ask if I should redo. If redo I'll finish the others first then do this one over if they're willing to wait, I think that'd be ok. ^^'

If they're what you were asked for don't bother redoing them.

I just would have liked to have had that information in your first post. Your description of them sort of sounds like "Yeah.. well.. I sort of drew them from something... but not really..." When they are exact copies.

Pulling off such precise work is still a skill, just tell us next time, okay? >__>; I can tell they're painted, but you still made my "art theif" alarm go off.

Miss Charlaine 03-18-2007 01:12 AM

I love your art! :o

It is not thievery when I noted they're from CLAMP. I assumed people would be able to identify Chobits about as easily as they could Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Originally these were part of a new set of paintings I finished up in March-ish, and where I posted them as samples, I also had links to CLAMP's site to give an example of when I wanted people to give copyright info before asking me to do paintings of anime.

Unless I specifically SAY that they are OC's of mine, I think please, don't ever assume they are my OC's.

Though people can request I do something very similar to this or that, I never really do exact exact copies. There are always a few differences for everything I paint, even if I am asked to do a near-direct copy. I insert differences primarily so it's somewhat easier to tell what I've done vs. a direct copy. For that same reason, I sign to the left on things that are not OC's or original works. If you do ever have a question as to whether or not something is my OC or someone else's OC or whatnot, feel free to ask. I would be more than happy to clarify it for you, anytime, if you are unfamiliar with certain anime. ;)
