Digital Photograph - Critique Please? (Closed)
I recently purchased a new DSLR, and I'm working on learning to compose my subjects well. If you do photography yourself, or just have an idea to toss out, go ahead! If you would like to see the full-resolution version, I can send it to you, but I think they would be annoyed if I posted it here. What with the page-stretching and all.

Ooh! Absolutely beautiful!! I'm not one to critique, but I will say that this is a lovely photo, and I like the angle you've used! =)

Ahh. To be honest..
it looks like just any other regular picture to me. Why? I'm not trying to be mean, but there's no emotion in the picture. What's it supposed to say? Solitude? Love? Anger? The picture doesn't speak yet, it only whispers. You're on the right track though. n w n Things you should work on are cropping and playing with lights (I'm not good at expressing myself in English, please bear with me). Try to take pictures of things that waken some emotions inside you. Try to let your emotions overcome you mind, and then take the picture. Hah, hear me go. I'm on a roll today. |
It's a lovely photo, but it bothers me that there's no clear subject. I see the ripples in the water, then I see the wall in the background, then the blurred leaves in front, etc. Everything hits the viewer at once, or fades into vision in one big block, and doesn't focus on anything in particular.
Give your viewer an object to direct their sight to. Rather then presenting a pretty picture, give them a core. Like Username Censored said before me - Start with a theme in mind, then go out to convey it. (As opposed to taking pictures and deciding that you like them afterwards.) |

This picture is a tad more abstract than most of the ones I take, I generally DO have some kind of major subject in mind. In this case I was trying to showcase the ripples on the water, and the reflection of the bridge to my right, but from the reactions it would appear that I need to do something in the photo to indicate that. Perhaps increasing my aperture to blur everything that's not on the plane of the water would do it, or moving a tad to the left so that the bridge itself would be in the pic? This is a place I go every day, so I can easily take more pictures from this same location.

The picture and scenery is gorgeous! The movement of the water is great too! You have great technique! ^_^!

Thanks, a lot of the credit for the nice reflections and motion in that first one goes to the darn near *perfect* day I had to take the pictures on. The sun angle was excellent for penetrating the water and giving it some colour, and the blue sky with just a couple puffy clouds made for a nice reflective backdrop.

You should! A good painting... Well, I don't really have to say anything about how cool a good painting is. History kind of speaks on that one. If you do get around to it, be sure to post pics! :)
