  • I really like most of these, especially the one below the Christmas ornament, the colours in that one are so lovely. Is it film? Looks film-y in a lovely way. :3

Hey, I was wondering, that picture of the sky with the rounded corners.. how do you get those rounded corners? Is it a layer you download or some photoshop trick? I wanted it for this one photo the other day, but I couldn't figure out how to do it, maybe because my photoshop is all in Italian..

Thanks! Yep,that ones in film! :D It was actually very over developed(my mom accidentally opened it... ^^; ) but I managed to save that one in photoshop. I rather think the overexposure made it more interesting though, since it made it really grainy, almost makes me think of a painting.

And yes,the rounded corners is done in photoshop. What I do is go to the pen tool and then go to the rounded edges square path tool, hold shift and drag it to the margin you want(so that the outside of the path is the width you want) and then right click and select "make selection",then go to the Square Marquee tool, and right click, and go to Select Inverse, then fill or stroke as you please. :D If you need any other help just ask. ^^ It's kind of annoying to do but I haven't found any other way that does it in a pretty, easy to do way.

  • Ahh yes, I thought it looked like a light leak, the pink around the edges. Looks lovely, I love light leaks, they can be so fun. I haven't shot film too much, just a little on my Holga (which opens reeeeally easily..) but I just got an old old old film camera from my aunt and I'm in love with it, I'm shooting on it a lot. Can't wait to get the two b/w films developed I just finished, I'm going to make them nudge it up to 800iso. Ahh, can't wait!! :3
Anyway, I got a light leak once on the Holga that ruined almost the whole film, but I got a couple alright, and I loved the way they came out. Wait, I'll find a link for you.. Here and here. :3

And thank you so much! <3 I don't have time to test it now, but I will later!

Oh wow, the light leaks on those are awesome! The first one especially. I love how it looks down on the bottom with the green parts. The texture is awesome. :D

And Ooh I've been longing for a Holga. x3 They sound so fun, and I love light leaks as well. It's like an unexpected lovely addiction to the photograph. x3 I've been chicken with my film camera so far, since I'm so used to the safety net of being able to delete bad photos and not having to spend money to take them. x3 I just gotta practice though. :D

Your photography is absolutely gorgeous and amazing. I envy your ability to capture things so beautifully. . . as well as your very wonderful camera. . . @[email protected]

My favorites are the panda, the ornaments and lights, and then the first close-up shot of the doll. Absolutely stunning quality. You're a natural and a pro. Keep it up!

  • Holgas are absolutely wonderful. The one I have is reeeeally basic. You get two shutter speeds - one normal fast, I'm guessing it's 1/60 or 30, and one manual, where you just hold the heavy button down as long as you think it'll take. And that's about the only thing you can do. The lens has a few different apertures, marked with pictures (you know, portrait, flower, mountain..) and there is a flash, but I always forget putting the batteries in it, I think they have to go behind the film or something. I always remember it just when I've put film in. xP

Developing film is really expensive, I agree. I just took my two soon-to-be-800-iso films and two colour films and one b/w Holga film to the photo lab. I have no idea what's on them, apart from the two b/ws. Exciting! xD It'll be fucking expensive though, and I'm pretty broke. My mum just gave me some money, but I should be using that on school books. Gahh! But but but but.. fiiiiilm. :3 I usually ask them to just develop the film and not put it on paper until I've checked the film out on the light board, then I can decide whether or not I'll spend the money on paper for any of them. For the ones I took today, I just asked for a CD with the pictures, it's cheaper and then I can get them straight onto the computer instead of waiting for them to fill up and then spend hours sitting on the floor in front of my friend's scanner. xP

Oh really? I always thought CDs would be more! So you can get them CDs and no paper at all and just get the negatives? I'll think I'll do that since I always like to edit my photos just a bit in photoshop to suit my tastes, so I can print them out from some service someday if I feel like it. x3

Oh man the Holga sounds really exciting. x3 I think it's awesome such a simple camera can make such lovely things. I think once I get more money I'll buy one.

I took some photos this morning. x3 Of my doll. haha It was so cold. I froze my fingers off. x___x I can't wait until a month or so from now when it wont be torture to go outside. XD Since outdoor photos are my favorite. I'm not so good at set lighting. D:

  • Oh! Really? Hmm. I don't really know, I didn't check, I just thought CD would be cheaper. I may be mistaken though.
I really like getting my films developed on paper, there's something so special about it. I tried the other day taking a photo of the film, taped it in a window when it was pretty bright outside and then used an action I got from my friend that is supposed to make negatives look.. positive. Hemm. Didn't go too well though, I have to ask him for some help with this. But still, it was fun. If I get better at that, I can just do that instead and just get the film developed.
Ooh, and I just found quite a few expired films down in the fridge today! I have to remember to ask mum if I can have them. I think they should do more of putting the expiring date on the film itself and not just the package though. Most of them were just in a film box and there was no date. I have a feeling they're pretty old though, my parents haven't used film in some years.. Yummm..

I'm not too fond of doll photos personally, sorry. I think they're good and all, but it's not my thing I guess. I really like the last one though, really lovely colours. Did you get the vignette naturally or photoshopped?

Yeah I can understand it's definitely not for everyone. ^^;;; I want to get into human model photography... but I am not so photogenic and I don't know anyone who'd be willing. Sigh

The vignette happened by itself. x3 The colors too. I'm not really good on the technical parts of photography yet so I dunno why it happened but I think it's pretty. x3

Ooh expired film. I bet that'll be fun to play with.

I think any PS action to make something look like it's been developed(or really, any certain style. Like that photographer Lara Jade who sells actions of certain styles, I doubt it works on most photos) won't really work very well. Maybe in basics but I think since every photo is very unique it requires a lot of step by step work if you'd do it that way. :o

  • Human models are fun, but tricky. And good ones are hard to come by. >.o

Vignette can happen when you have a lens or a filter or something that doesn't quite fit.. I think? I heard that somewhere anyway. I have a blue filter that looks really good and creates a vignette. The colours are natural too? Woah. Weird lighting then, or something. Or weird settings.

Expired film is awesome. I haven't had the chance to use really old film yet, I think at least one of the film I took to the lab today expired.. three years ago or something. Can't quite remember. The other expired just last year. You can usually get expired film cheap, the photo lab I usually go to had a sale of film that expired in December just now in January. Most of it went right away, most of the best ones anyway. Then they always have expired film on 100Ikr., which is.. something like 1,5USD. There's no date on those though.

Actions are pretty tricky and you're right, they usually only work on specific types of photos. I once tried one of Lara's actions, and it didn't come out too well at all. I prefer messing with colours on my own, but developing negatives digitally is a bit trickier than that. I'm going to play around with this though and see what comes out of it. :3

Ooh maybe I'll buy some expired film then if I find a place like that. :o

If you figure it out I'd love to hear how you did it! I think it'd be fun to get it from negatives to positives by myself. :O Sort of like.. a digital darkroom? x3

I can imagine human models being tricky, especially since they get tired and complain and whatnot... XD; My dolls are wonderfully silent.

  • I will try to remember to tell you if I do! I have memory like.. a goldfish. Or something. I actually heard or read somewhere that they don't really have that lousy a memory. So maybe I have worse memory than a goldfish! Hah!

Yeah, but still, the dolls can't have all the facial expressions and poses and all humans can. :3

Haha exactly. That's my dilemma lately. :< I feel they all look the same. XD They probably do, too. Maybe I can somehow coerce some friends to be models for me. XD

I have a horrible memory as well, so I understand. XD Maybe I can try to figure it out myself in the meantime. x3

  • Definitely try and trick friends to pose for you. Promise them cookies or something if they're good. :3
I usually just take pictures of my friends. One of my friends is an amazing model, she's grown really interested in modelling and she hadn't even really thought about it when I first started shooting her. Now she can amaze me in every single shoot because she always manages to do new things and look different. And she's very photogenic and aware of everything she does.

Haha yes, and if you do figure out before I do, then you try and remember to tell me how to do it! xD
