Old Art?

Just wondering, since it seems there are so many artists on this site. What does everyone do with their old art? Personally, I keep it all. My portfolio is jam-packed with papers that I may not even look at again for several months. Most of it's total crud, but I can't really just throw away something I spent time on to create. My best period for if I want to throw something away is while I'm creating it. If I decide it's just that bad and the paper's of no further use to me, I have to rip it up and toss it out before I end up stuck with another horrible piece I shove in the back of my desk so nobody else has to know about it.

So. What do you all do with your old art?

I keep them and watch how I improve from when I first began to actually draw. I keep them all in their sketchbooks or protected in a notebook.

I wish I would truly try to improve now though.. I think I'd be a lot better within a few months if I truly tried, haha. But right now I love my style~

I just started to draw so all of my old art are piled up by my scanner. After I scan them I basically leave them there >_< I should go organize them or something. I intend to keep all of them for a long time too since these picture/comics I drew gave me confidence that I can try to make something out of it. I don't intend to become a professional artist in the future but now instead of thinking of ideas in my head and wished that I can draw it, now I can actually give myself a chance at drawing what I'm thinking. It's a great feeling ^_^

Mimiroppu 03-10-2010 11:37 PM

I keep most of it. I love seeing how much I've improved, even if it hurts to look back on the old art. xD

I keep it for about a year; if after a year i think it sucks it hits the trash.

As a horder of anything on a mass scale, i keep pretty much all of my artwork. Granted i don't produce a lot, but still, i like to keep it just to have something to look at sometimes, and say to myself, 'you can do it yanno' kinda thing.

My old art? Speccialy my 2000's to 2005/2006 art? I threw them away! they are sucky and horrible. XD

Some of my older ones are shocking, because I changed my art style in 4/5 years.a lot.

Guivre 03-11-2010 07:31 PM

I sell my art as soon as possible so I don't have to look at it anymore. =D

Snort Like A Pig 03-13-2010 04:47 AM

Throw it away. Lol, or give it to little children that will eventually throw it away.

The Real Nikki 03-13-2010 04:49 AM

I post all of my art online to keep track of it.
Then I give it to friends and family as gifts unless I'm in love with it, which rarely happens. I did a painting of myself once and my grandma stole it from me, thinking when I showed her it that I was giving it to her. ): I was a little sad when that happened.. I wanted to give it to my boyfriend.. ):

As far as my online portfolio. I only show my best pieces. However, I keep a lot of old work for sentimental reasons in folders for my own personal use. I also have like an online scrap area, for those drawings that aren't the best but aren't that horrible. Since I do produce a lot of art, eventually I have to throw a lot of sketches away there simply isn't enough space.

I keep my old drawings if they look decent. It's important to keep them so you can know how you've improved over the years c:

Mr. Sir Henry Motherlover 03-28-2010 07:22 PM

I keep mine, so when I'm down on my luck about my art I can look at all my old crap and compare it with my new crap and feel better about myself.

Lysine 04-26-2010 06:17 AM

I keep it all, too -- although if it's a gift for someone I know in real life, I'll give the original to them and just scan it for myself.

Amurita 04-29-2010 04:48 AM

Generally I keep all my art. But mainly because I draw in a sketchbook and everything's kept bound within it. Although I don't make that much drawings, I do like to keep my sketchbooks to see how i've improved over the years.

Hazardous Bubbles 04-30-2010 02:48 PM

I keep mine. It's fun but also a bit embarrassing to look back at. Haha!

Mine is just all in my old room at my grandparents house. No room for any of it in my apartment so it's piled on a shelf in sketchbooks there.

I really need to organize everything...

But I still have drawings that I made at the age of 4, the paper turned all yellow and weak, but I still love them.

Mainly I have drawings from the age 12 to now, I must say that my way of saving them isn't really paper friendly, but then again...I hide those drawings and be ashamed of the fact that I was proud on them when I drew them.
