Hello people!
Now, this is a debate I've seen going on a couple of times and I wouldn't mind finding out the answer myself so tell me...

Which group do you prefer?

Would you rather listen to Within Temptation or Evanescence or are you more like me? I personally love both groups a lot and I can't choose between them.

What's your favourite song by the band(s) in question?

Evanescence - My Immorta, Bring me to life, Everybody's Fool

Within Temptation: Ice Queen, The Howling, Forgive, What have you done now (rock version)

I definitely prefer Within Temptation. I loved Evanescence when they were popular, but their songs don't have any lasting value for me. I liked My Immortal and Everybody's Fool the most, but I've gotten sick of them to the point that I can't listen to them anymore. For Within Temptation, my favorite songs include What Have You Done feat. Keith Caputo, Stand My Ground, Memories, Forgiven and Ice Queen. I like a lot of more their songs too. x)

Does anyone also like Nightwish? I think they're a pretty similar band.

I really like both, but if I had to choose, Within Temptation is probably my favorite of the two. I think WT is somewhat more original, and has more creative themes and meanings behind their songs and such (although I really like Evanescence as well).

@Siri: I'm a Nightwish fan as well. ^_^ They're actually probably my all-time favorite band. I pay a lot of attention to lyrics when I'm listening to songs, and Nightwish has some of the best and most creative and meaningful songs out of any bands I've heard, in my opinion.

While I love both, and it was Evanescence that started me listinging to most of the bands that I listen to now, I think they're getting way too... Well, they've changed. Their music isn't what it used to be. Within Temptation is always completely original, and I absolutely love that about them. Now, if you want to add another thing into the mix, I think Nightwish is a HUGE contender in this debate. They have a just as amazing library of songs as compared to the other two, and are as well original. They've had a new singer for a while, and both of the singers that they've had/have have completely different styles, which makes it even better.

As for my favorite songs, there are too many to count. Not joking.

@Half-Blood Princess: I absolutely love Running Up That Hill by Within Temptation. I completely forgot about it earlier, but I definitely need to add that to my favorites list. Nightwish is my favorite of the three as well, but I don't like the new singer as much, so I've become more of a Within Temptation fan as a result. I guess it's about time I stopped being bitter though. xD;

@Cloaked Hatter: Yes, another Nightwish fan! I can't list all of my favorite songs by Nightwish either--there are seriously way too many of them. Century Child, Once and Wishmaster are my favorite albums, so I guess that narrows it down a bit. Does anyone know if they're coming out with a new album anytime soon?

@Siri: I've been hearing for quite a while that they've been writing songs and such for a new album, but I'm not sure when the exact date is supposed to be. I think it should be sometime within the next year or so though.

Within Temptation are amazing♥ They were my fav band for a long time.. I can't wait for their new album!
I never really got into Evanescence but I like some songs though, 'Missing'... ;~;

Both bands are great in my opinion.
I love Amy Lee's voice and piano skills to no end. I wish I had her skills.

I only like a few songs from Within Temptation, and I'm very impressed by their level of skill. Hopefully in the future I can find more songs that I like from them. I'm very picky.

I love a lot of songs from Evanescence, mostly from their album Fallen. But I do enjoy The Open Door tracks as well. I'm excited for the release of their new album this year! Amy Lee says that the album will be different from the rest, and I cant help but wonder what they're going to do! <3

My favorite songs from Within Temptation are: Angels, The Truth Beneath the Rose, and Gothic Christmas.

And for Evanescence: Bring Me to Life, Lies, Haunted, Going Under, Call Me When You're Sober, Lacrymosa, Lithium, and more.

I've never actually heard of Nightwish before now but I'll be checking them out now that you guys have brought them to my attention! It was Evanescence that got me into this music and for that I will always be grateful!

I can't believe I fergot about "Breathe no more" since that was one of my all time FAVOURITES!!!!!!!! Fallen is probably my favourite album by Evanescence.

Right now my favourite album by Within Temptation is "The Heart of Everything" but I have yet to get the Black Symphony so we'll see after I've got that. I'm REALLY looking forward to it!

I like them both, tbh. Where Will You Go? and Away From Me are my favourites from Evanescence. <3 Within Temptation, uh... I don't really have any favourite songs from them. xD I like all their stuff. Uh... Jillian is pretty good, actually. *nods*

I heard of the band Within Temptation, but I never heard a song from them...unless it is one of those hundreds of songs I don't know the band/name to....>u<

I don't have a particular favorite song, but they are really good ^^

I definitely prefer Within Temptation. Evanescence have a few fantastic songs; my favorite being "Hello." It's an eerily beautiful song, sadly I can't really say the same for the rest of their music. While I don't really listen to Within Temptation very much, their sound is something that I generally prefer.

Well, I personally can't decide which one I like better, though I do have more Within Temptation songs on my playlist than Evanescence...XD;;

Personal all-time favorites:

Within Temptation: Angels, Hand of Sorrow
Evanescence: Taking Over Me, Bring Me to Life

There are a lot of others, of course, but those songs stuck to me most.

I'd go with Evanescence mainly because it was my first ever CD.

I appreciate what Evanescence did when they first started out. Amy-lee got me into female vocalists. Its thanks to her than i actually heard about Within Temptation.

But Within temptation are perfect, original. And Sharon Den Adel is both prettier, and a better live performer. Her voice is perfect on stage. Amy lee is only average unfortunately :(

So although Evanescence will always be up there as one of my all-time favourite teenage bands...Within Tempation are STILL in my top 10 bands :)

And top 5 for live bands...and i've seen ALOT of bands xD

Within TemptatioN ARE brilliant live. They're gunna be in the UK in November I think and I'm planning on getting a ticket to see them iN Glasgow. I'm REALLY looking forward to it! I just wish more of the bands taht I like came to Scotland.
Within Temptation are so awesome, especially with teh choir addition and the orchestra.

I hope they play somewhere close to me!! (is closest to Sheffield, England)

I think their website said London, Manchester and Glasgow but there might have been another. Hopefully I can get a ticket for the one in Glasgow although I'm not sure since it's a weekday and I'll have classes.

I definately prefer Within Temptation. I personally like Sharon's voice alot better than Amy. The only album I really liked from Evanescence is Fallen- after that, they kinda fall flat for me. And yes, I adore Nightwish. But...old Nightwish, when Tarja was the singer. While Anette's a nice singer and all....Nightwish kinda loses the ethereal atmosphere it had when Tarja left. Anette's voice is way different and it creates a whole new, more punkish vibe to me. I'll listen to it, but I won't love and adore it.

This is easy between these two....Within Temptation! Although I was a fan of Evanescence before I ever heard of Within Temptation and I used to absolutely adore Evanescence...but the newer albums just kind of turned me off of them. Everything that was Fallen and before that was great. The Open Door had a few good songs on it, other than that, I did not care for it at all.

As for songs, it kind of depends on my mood on what songs I like...so I can't really tell you.

Bust honestly, my favorite female fronted band would have to be Epica. They are my favorite (however my favorite band of all is Sonata Arcitca).

And I do like Nightwish! But I preferred it with Tarja. But, Anette is good too. But her voice starts to annoy me after a while.

However, all the credit for my current taste in music I would have to give to Evanescence. I used to listen to music similar to them on the Last.fm radio when I was in middle school and from there I learned of bands such as Nightwish, Within Temptation, Sonata Arctica, and Epica.

@Siri I love Nightwish, but they are so much better the Evanescence or WT, I can't think of any comparison except they all have female singers/male others.

Only three songs by Within Temptation I like: Our solemn Hour; Angel; and Memories.

I can't decide on Evanescence. They are better overall, but the three songs above are better than all their song imo.

For one it's on a day I have class (and I can't really skip that) and for another I'd need someone to come down with me since I'm half blind and going to Glasgow alone...not such a good idea me thinks. I know someone from Glasgow who's also half blind and he says that he's heard of some blind people that have guide dogs being mugged so...yeah...not a very good combination although I REALLY want to see them live!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I prefer Within Temptation....the lead singer's so pretty and talented. Her voice as such an astounding range and nearly all of their songs are melodic to the point of being epic.
