I fell head-over-heels in love with Streetlight Manifesto when they popped up with a few different songs on my Pandora station the other day.

I did my research, and to my shock, they're not only well-known in America, but famous enough to be on a world tour right now! I LOVE music, have always been fond of ska and ska and reggae influences, so why did it take me so long to discover such an awesome band?!

Now all my friends are making fun of me. xD

If you're in this forum, chances are you consider yourself a music lover. Ever had a "derp" moment with an artist you feel like you should know?

What about songs you hear and can't put with an artist you're familiar with? That happened to me with Katy Perry's Firework, though it might be because I wasn't expecting to hear her on my local techno station. xD

My friend actually had me listen to those guys the other night.

I think this mainly happens to me in the form that I'll have heard of a band for a while but just never get around to investigating them and when I do, and find myself loving them, I feel guilty for not looking them up sooner

I'm with Vix on the whole not looking up then loving a band thing. I did that more before I worked in radio though and before people would randomly tell me to listen to things.

I do have moments where for some reason a band name will slip my mind and I'll know who the song is by then I think of it or someone says who it is then I feel dumb for not thinking of it at the time.

When the kids I teach talk about popular music I get the "HerpDerp" face. I have NO IDEA who any of these new musicians are.

The Script. I love sooooo many of their songs and I turn them up every time I hear them on the radio but I never knew who they were nor that all the songs I've been loving lately are by them instead of different people. >.> This is like six different songs that I was oblivious about, just so ya know. I was also oblivious to Dubstep and now it's one of my favorites. Whooo else...(I'm terrifically oblivious to a lot of music/have been). I had no idea that Lady Gaga existed for the first year of her career...and Justin Bieber, too. Justin Bieber I don't regret. Lol.

I also could never figure out who Fall Out Boy was, and I've just recently been able to start placing Maroon 5's stuff. I always asked "who does this song" when Rihanna came on the radio for a couple of years before I got it through my head that Disturbia was by the chick with Ronald McDonald hair.

Commence making fun of Ely. She knows she's horrible, lol.

Coupla times. I remember onetime getting mad at a hypoChristian lady at the place I worked who was dissing a band saying she'd never let her daughter listen to them because she thought their name was evil. I went on quite the rant that just because a band had a negative sounding name didn't mean they were necessarily a bad band.... and that's when my friend reminded me just how awful Poison's music is. :D

The other day I was in a taxi when this song came on the country station. It had a line in it like "got a friend from New York City, never heard of Conway Twitty..." My friend asked in all earnestness "who IS Conway Twitty?" So both I and the driver tried to enlighten her but it was pretty clear quite quickly that we didn't actually know either; I had kinda heard OF him but had never actually listened to him.

So I looked him up on YouTube, and actually found a bizarre clip of him playing with The Residents, of all people.

Dude's cooler than I thought he'd be. Still not add-to-the-IPod cool, but I'm glad I know more now.

I end up listening to mainstream music stations a lot in the car, especially when I'm with my friends, so I generally know most of the popular bands and songs. And I have a really good memory, so chances are if I hear who sings a song once, I'll remember it.

There are a lot of bands that I've heard of but never listened to, though. I tend to listen mostly to symphonic metal, and practically no one where I live has even heard of the bands I listen to.

I'm more clueless when it comes to actors and actresses and movies and such, though, than I am with music. I practically never actually watch television so I have no idea what everyone else is talking about when they discuss TV shows and quote movies and things like that. I remember back in elementary school my friends were horrified when I mentioned that I had never seen High School Musical. xD

Lol, North. I remember watching the premier of HSM and thinking that it was going to be huge, so I made sure to remember everything, even though I hated it and was only going to use the memories to diss the dumb thing.

I actually avoided seeing it for years just because all the people I hated seemed to love it. I think I like your plan better, though. xD

These days, my friends and I just make ridiculous parodies out of everything we hate. xD

Twilight is one of my most tortured victims. I can't count the times where I've heard a Twilight fan obsessing, gone up to them and said..."he was in love with my egg?!!!!" or cracked a sparkly joke at a particularly prime moment.

Haha, mine too. My friends and I particularly like to make fun of the one scene where Bella lists all the reasons why Edward is a vampire, and then he responds, "Say it. OUT LOUD" all dramatic-like. xD
