I hold no prejudices against any genre, except country -.- but after one of my roommates played it day in and day out I've just had enough. I think there are a couple country songs that I enjoyed, but I neither remember their names nor plan on seeking them out any time soon. At the moment, my favorite genre is Industrial with Drum & Bass running a close Second. Power Metal is tied in third place with Hardcore (hardstyle, hardhouse, etc) and Indie Rock.
I will always love classical, but my favorite kinds are the ones with beautifully intricate piano and violin pieces.
:boogie:

*lookin up a Sizzla an sneaking off with abit of her Mountain Goats an Josh Marteniez* If I'm actually listening to music then newer indi-folk-ey music and Hip Hop, if I want to get rowdey Punkrock (esp the Spits, Black Flag) and if I'm trying to read then IDM/DubStep/ambient. with healthy sides of noise-pop, industrial, old metal-core, old-soul, rock and roll, expierimental, ....yeah, so few people can pick a favorite Genre..
You won't find me listing to much Jazz or Classical but there are exceptions for certain songs/acts/moods....

vampire_kitten 06-09-2009 02:55 AM

I listen to a lot of different genres of music, but my favorite is pop, and emo rock. :P

Vanna5207 06-10-2009 08:03 PM

CRUNK

Purl 06-10-2009 08:20 PM

Classical and new age are my cup of tea. :)

NorthEastFire 06-12-2009 08:50 PM

Mine is symphonic metal. Most people haven't heard of it, but it's music like Nightwish, Within Temptation, things like that.

Fabby 06-14-2009 12:39 AM

Mine are industrial and pop.
Most of my stuff is one or the other, but I have plenty of other music for variety. The only genre which I really dislike, in its entirety, is rap. I have yet to find a rap artist that I actually enjoy. D:

Trippytronix 06-14-2009 08:22 PM

My favorite genre is....I guess Alternative. I like R&B too. But I like a whole variety of songs, depending on the sound/beat & the lyrics. I love lyrics xD

Risque 06-14-2009 08:40 PM

Lately I've been a huge fan of IDM/Braindance, breakcore, and stoner rock. :)

lslines 06-15-2009 10:23 AM

I really like jazz, and some indie stuff. Things like Diana Krall and Ella Fitzgerald, and things like Modest Mouse and Josh Pyke.

Though I'll always have a place in my heart for electronica/dance/techno/whatever.

Heruuna 06-17-2009 10:41 AM

I'll listen to anything but country and most rap.
My favorite genre is alternative/alternative rock.
I tend to go for the rock side of music, but I also love classical, orchestra, symphony, choir, punk, JRock, metal, heavy rock, and of course techno. XD

Sally Sinema 06-22-2009 09:16 PM

I'm the same, the only think I don't listen to is country or rap, just never could get into it.
I listen to quite a bit of electronica and industrial but wouldn't say I had a favorite genre, I just love music in general, I collect it, all kinds and get really happy when I find a new band I like or a person that enjoys music as much as I do.

Hi there. I have been listening to Jazz for about a week. Didn't like it before but last week I found this station and just couldn't turn it off... now I only want to listen to jazz...

Here is some wiki quotes :

Quote:

Jazz is a musical art form which originated at the beginning of the 20th century in African American communities in the Southern United States from a confluence of African and European music traditions. The style's West African pedigree is evident in its use of blue notes, improvisation, polyrhythms, syncopation, and the swung note.[1]

From its early development until the present, jazz has also incorporated music from 19th and 20th century American popular music.[2] The word jazz began as a West Coast slang term of uncertain derivation and was first used to refer to music in Chicago in about 1915; for the origin and history, see Jazz (word).

Jazz has, from its early 20th century inception, spawned a variety of subgenres, from New Orleans Dixieland dating from the early 1910s, big band-style swing from the 1930s and 1940s, bebop from the mid-1940s, a variety of Latin jazz fusions such as Afro-Cuban and Brazilian jazz from the 1950s and 1960s, jazz-rock fusion from the 1970s and late 1980s developments such as acid jazz, which blended jazz influences into funk and hip-hop. As the music has spread around the world it has drawn on local national and regional musical cultures, its aesthetics being adapted to its varied environments and giving rise to many distinctive styles.
I think I like "free Jazz". However sometimes it just seems difficult to simply categorize it. ( At least to me) And my favorite artist so far seems to be Miles Davis. He is very good at music he plays.

The station I am listening to is http://www.jazzandblues.org/programming/listen/ It's really fun to listen to.

Anyway... Just wanted to share my genre. Hoped you like it...

If everyone dislikes rap and country (and it seems most people say they do) how is it that rap is so popular? o__o

Poor country. It gets so much crap.

Julianna 06-29-2009 02:40 AM

@[email protected] fabby~ that's a really good question! i'm really unsure of this too xD ;;

i don't think country is that bad D: i don't listen to it on my own..
but hearing it on tv or in tv shows, etc~ it's not as horrible as most say it is! ^^

Mesmerized 07-03-2009 04:07 AM

I'd say... Alternative and Rock are my favorite genres. I listen to other different genres... pop, R&B, soul, trance... but those are two genres I have more in my playlist ^^

Fabby 07-03-2009 05:37 AM

@Julianna- I really don't think country is that bad either.
I don't especially like it (especially the more poppy-oriented Taylor Swift type of country) but there are certainly worse things in the world to listen to. For example, the dreaded dentist office "light rock". D: I'm not really sure why people hate it so much..

13th 08-12-2009 02:05 PM

My fav is metal aka hardcore, screamo, experimental... uh, yes... that genre ^^'
The text is well... not to find out what's the meaning if you're not very good at analyzing, but still very ironic - I actually like that :3

Sariwa 08-12-2009 07:40 PM

Rock. Since I think it covers everything from Folk music and Rock n' Roll to Hard rock and Metal ^^
