Lyrics - Hearing them wrong?

Has anyone misheard lyrics?

Well, I'm sure everyone has, but...

Anyone want to share their experiences?

xD

For example, Fountains of Wayne's Strapped for Cash - at first, I misheard it as Stressification or something.

xD!

xDD

Did you ever try looking it up?

But you know, it does sound an awful lot like "gelitine."

xD

Back in "the day" when Eiffel 65 just put out "Blue," I heard "If that was me I would die" instead of "daa ba dee da ba daah."

Wow, that was embarrassing.

When I was in high school I was the biggest fangirl over the Sailormoon musicals. Tuxedo Kamen has a number of hilariously garbled Engrish lines I loved.

"Mystic Passion!" sounded like mistake of fashion.

"You shall lose the way" (I *think* that's what the intended meaning is) sounded like you shall lose some weight.

Musical Tuxxy totally makes up for how lame anime Tuxxy is.

Jesmond 06-21-2007 03:17 AM

Oh gods... When Linkin Park first released Meteora, I swore for the longest time that in "Nobody's Listening" the line was

"I tried to keep you horny, but everyone ignores me."

When in reality it was

"I tried to give you warning, but everyone ignores me."

Or something like that.

Chips 06-21-2007 03:55 PM

That happens to me all of the time xD Never anything funny though.

BUT

My dad thinks beyonce says "In the closet, if I farted" instead of "In the closet, if I bought it" in that annoying song of hers.

And my sister heard "Ooooh boy, oo oo" in the song Who Are You? by the Who. [Instead of "who are you, oo oo"].

haha.

Haha, trust me, you are one of many to have mistaken that.
There also was "If I was green, I would die."

IshokuOsero 06-21-2007 07:37 PM

There are millions of misheard lyrics for the J-rock music I listen to. Dx
Everything from the entire Clever Sleazoid song by Dir en grey, to small parts here and there where something just happens to be misheard, and it doesn't even matter if the original words were in English or not.

I hear some of the most disturbing things when I mishear lyrics, everything from the very first thing whispered in Gazette's "Saraba" (I hear suck off, but it's supposed to be saraba Dx ), to Miku's way of saying venus in Smile Ichiban ii Onna (you can just guess how that's misheard...), to one of Hyde's songs from the Faith album that I can't remember right now, but that sounds disturbing to me also. Dx When I remember, I'll share it, haha.

Hmm.... *looks around on youtube*
Here are two versions of misheard lyrics to Clever Sleazoid, the first song I mentioned:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK9XCJxwRbI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDpfc_auQus

The first one is the most popular version of the misheard lyrics. It was posted everywhere soon after the song originally came out.

I love misheard lyrics. <3

Katurine 06-21-2007 08:05 PM

Ah, yeah, that happens sometimes. I don't have many examples of my mishearing lyrics, but there's Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon". I don't remember what I kept hearing at first, but it sure didn't sound like it should. I swear I thought it was in French. Ah, shame on me. ^_^;

Suteki 06-22-2007 12:46 PM

I have tons of music that I have misheard at one point or another. It's usually with my French music though o.o;; But luckily nothing big as far as mishearing has gone there, at most it was me mishearing "et puis" for "après".

I've made bigger mistakes with my Japanese music. I can't remember them all, but most of them were pretty embarassing.

And as far as English music goes, in the song Opheliac by Emilie Autumn, I heard "But you were never able to keep me breathing" as "But you were never able to keep be believing." It makes more sense with breathing due to the reference, now that I think about it.

The song "Flavor of the Week" I thought that he was saying "tombstone, Nintndo" when he was really saying "too stoned to know"

Oh... well, that song makes a little more sense now XD;;

Her-Humble-Homunculi 06-23-2007 07:02 AM

"You can dance, you can DIE, having the timne of your life..."
I'm pretty sure it says "you can dance you can Jive" x.x
that was my worst mis heard lyric

Star Valo 06-23-2007 11:24 AM

The mis-heard lyric i remember best is when i was about 5, and my mum took me out in the car, i insisted on bringing my Lion-king song cassette to put in the car cassette player, I loved listening to Scar's song so i played that one a lot, but i sang the lyrics wrong ^^

Instead of "be prepared" i always thought it was "big big bed"

Only until I was told by my mum (more like i argued constantly with my mum over the right words) that it wasn't did i realize i was singing the wrong words xD

That and I always pictured Scar sat on a huge bunk-bed in the Hyena's cave

*end of big long story*

Makes me laugh looking back on it now ^^

Her-Humble-Homunculi 06-23-2007 03:18 PM

"BIG BIG BEEEEEED" I love that XD
I was just watching that movie yesterday XD

Sedge 06-30-2007 01:38 AM

  • I thought the "white winged dove" in Edge of Seventeen was "one winged dove". >.>

And in the Neko Case song "Deep Red Bells", for the longest time I thought the line "no speckled fawns graze 'round your bones" was "when speckled fronds raise 'round your bones". I didn't realize I had gotten it wrong until I heard the live version, because it didn't seem out of place. O_o

Frog 07-01-2007 07:59 AM

In Fergie's song Glamorous, I always thought she said "you're a shitbag living a lie."

Then my two friends - who are big fans of Fergie, Rihanna, etc - started singing it one day at school.

Turns out she said "popping champagne, living the life."

...oops?

tentenpuff 07-01-2007 10:20 PM

@ Morien: Wow. Well...at least he's not singing about dying and about happy dadadas? ^^;

@ Masquerade: xDDDD Someone should make up a spoof of those with what you heard.

@ Jesmond: ...o0;;. That doesn't really sound like what Linkin Park would sing about. xD But it would be awfully hilarious if he did...ehehe...

@ Chips: ...ahahahahahaa. You have a strange dad. xD

@ Secretdae007: ...if I was green? xD

@ IshokuOsero: Oh wow. Haha...o0;;. They are kind of disturbing. Does that throw off the meaning of the song a lot for you? Like...a lot a lot?

@ Katurine: Ahahaha. French? Eer...hearing lyrics wrong is one thing; hearing the language wrong is another...xD

@ Suteki: That would be kind of scary to be kept from breathing, though. But I guess it's still possible. I can't say much on the French thing. I'm not a native to the language or anything, so I wouldn't understand a French song, but I agree how some words sound a lot like others. Like 'sais' and 'suis.' In my class, my classmates and I keep getting them confused, so if we say "I am," we end up saying "I know." When we say "I don't know," we end up saying "I am not." xP

@ !WeirdBlueOne!: Ahhaha. Ahahahaah. Nintendo~.

@ Her-Humble-Homunculi[/b]: Aww, that's not too bad. I think the misheard version is happier, though. xD

@ Star Valo: Ohmygod!! That's so cutee! Ahahahaa. xD Bigbigbed~~~ xDD

@ Sedge: ...speckled fronds? xD

@ Frog: Ahahahahaha!! -cough- Ahem, sorry. Ahaha...wow.

Motion 07-01-2007 11:44 PM

Happens to me all the time. xD

It's so embarrassing when I'm singing something and my friends go "Dude, wtf are you singing?". xD

Naeru 07-03-2007 01:25 AM

I remember a song xDDD

There was a word "infatuated"

And I heard it as "in-fact-you-ate-it* D:

I know! You're singing one thing, they're singing another, and you're all, "What? Wait."

In fact you ate it? I see how that came, but...

  • Lloyd - Want You

Me and my friend used to laugh when we thought it was saying

    "She's 5'2" but I want you"

Turns out when I wanted to find out the lyrics and only knew that line, it was really hard. xD It lead me to a misheard lyric page. The real lyrics were

"She's fine too but I want you"

I think EVERYONE i know thought that.
I know I did.

"I'm blue daba dee da ba die, if I was green I would die."

it was pretty funny.
