There are two ways you can take the title:
1) They have really wierd music and make no sense at
all
2) No one's ever heard of them before.
Talk about it either way!
Ex:
Some bands that confuse me with their lyrics are:
`Green Day
`System of a Down
`Fall Out Boy
Some bands I listen to that no one else has heard of:
`Maximum the Hormone, They sing "What's Up People" and "Zetsubou Billy", two of the Death Note themes
`Within Temptation
`Serj Tankian, ony people who know about System of a Down or heard "Empty Walls" know who he is.

Within Temptation is not that unknown. Oh well, might have something to do with the fact that I am living in the Netherlands, where they come from.

I've got the album Silent Force by Within Temptation ^_^ You're not the only one who listens to them <3
I really like The Birthday Massacre and Metronomy, but no-one's heard of them ;3 Unless people regularly search Myspace for new music like I do :]

I like Patrick Wolf, but the only way anyone I know knows of him is through my enthusiastic tales XD
And I recently discovered an old Swedish guy named Robert Broberg who has a fantastic album with the most amazingly ironic and on the spot lyrics ever...
Unfortunately, I don't think I can get hold of it unless I go to Sweden... O_O
I heard it on a cassette in the car with my mum who had taped it over from an LP record in the seventies XD
I want it SO bad!!!
No one else I know of have ever heard of him...
I also like a lot of Norwegian bands that no one outside of Norway has heard of, but that's understandable ^^

@Erathene: I love The Birthday Massacre <33
And Within Temptation is quite popular o____o it's one of these most popular gothic/symphonic (whatever...!) metal bands with female vocalist.
Well, I know a lot of Polish bands which aren't really popular even in my country. Though they are really good, in my opinion ^^
And there is also Diablo Swing Orchestra, noone except for me and my friend seems to heard about them.
But maybe I just don't know right people, since I know a lot of bands which - I think - should be quite popular and I don't know anyone who like them except for people who started liking them because of me or who make me like them.
About really weird music: Sui Generis Umbra.
But only if you say that this what they create can be called 'music' xD Quite interesting though, but sometimes may be a bit scary...

I like a band called Nightwish. I describe their music as Goth Opera. The lead singer is a woman that sings a very nice soprano, and their music is very goth oriented. Its very dark but beautiful at the same time.
Not alot of people have heard of them, but a lot of people fall in love with them when they hear some of their songs. I got alot of my friends addicted that way ^^

Kyou - Nightwish is one of the best known bands in the genre, actually. Sure, people who only listen to hiphop don't know them.

@Kyou Blade:
Again, I'm pretty surprised that someone thinks that Nightwish isn't a popular band o____o
I know, it's genre of music I like but... still, it's a popular band. From all these symphonic/goth metal bands Nightwish is, probably, one of the best known, just like Within Temptation.
In my country, when they released singel 'Wish I had an angel' there was a lot of people who got crazy about that song, it was even kinda annoying. Gee, they even played their new songs ('Eva' for sure, I don't know if some others were played too) on the radio! It's really strange, because I've never heard any song I like - or song recorded by a band I like - on the radio.

Patrick Wolf is made of win. D: I didn't think he's that unknown.
ALL my freaking bands are unknown, which drives me up the wall because I want them to be more popular so everyone can enjoy their greatness! D:
Even the ones that are sorta popular, like Stars, Morrissey and Belle and Sebastian, people are like 'LOLWHO?' which saddens me. Sufjan Stevens, Jens Lekman, The Weakerthans, even The Smiths and The Velvet Underground fall on deaf ears.
Saddens me. D:

Xiu Xiu makes the weirdest music I've heard and they are one of my favourite bands. Karen Dreijer's bands, The Knife and Honey is Cool, come pretty close in weirdness though. & Bjork in general is weird.
I love Patrick Wolf. :] He's decently well known.

Well, one band I love that fits both of those categories would be Gogol Bordello.
They're known for an unknown band, but they're pretty unknown.
And sometimes the lyrics don't make any sense. Even when he's singing in English.
Here's an example from their song "Sally."
This is copied directly from the CD jacket. (excuse the bad grammar. That's just how it's written)
Quote:
From all the tables of contents that Mother Earth provides
I'd like to be a big fat fucking fly
The one that spins around your head all day and all night
and sound of it is just like a what?...
...but by the accident of some kind of divine dispensation
I ended up being walking United Nation
And I survive even fucking radiation
A big fat fucking what?
And I would visit you a lot!...

Patrick Wolf is win, and he's pretty well known, only NOT IN NORWAY! XD
And of the bands you mentioned, I have heard about all but two, and I REALLY like Sufjan Stevens ^^
But yeah, it is sad how little people know of good music, they miss out on so much....

Hardly anyone has heard of Ateed. Within Temptation is really well known most of my friends have heard of them. Their song "I Want It All" was used on a Pringles advert once.
Also I mentioned I like Apocolyptica to my friend and she didn't know who they are and I thought se would have heard of them.

@katyasha lots of people know the cruxshadows, they aren't underground. They've been around a good ten years and are pretty well known.
Pavement has some pretty goofball lyrics, but at the same time, when you sit down and look at them, they do have a lot of meaning. Shame they broke up, they were a lot of fun. Cibo Matto was pretty out there too, but so fantastic I could hardly stand it... they're broken up these days too. Sigh.

The Rasmus is fairly well known... but no one in my school except for myself has even heard of them.
Anything rap confuses me. Okay, moreso that people actually like some of the modern rap and hip hop over classic & modern rock.

I love old songs, like from the 60's, 70's, 80's, & 90's....some of them are really odd, from music to the lyrics, and some of them are kinda lame...XD But I love them. It's a refreshing change than listening only the current modern music all the time.
Of course the ones who go "huhh" the most are my friends.
It makes them think that I have a really weird taste in musics. xDD Maybe in this case, they're right!
Some other time, I'll bring here my list and show you guys. *nods*

Yay! Snaps for you! I haven't met anyone who likes him yet, besides us! I know, it's too bad. I always take in mind the tastes of people and make them a cd with lesser-known artists so hopefully they will buy their stuff. XD
