Akira Yamaoka is a Japanese composer, well-known for his music in the Silent Hill video game series.

Since a large part of Akira's work is music produced for the Silent Hill series, I would describe his sound as dark and industrial, but also sometimes gentle and melodic. Encompassing the atmosphere from the horrifying games, music sweeps from light and ambient to murky and confused, and finally morphs into dark horror. I love it ;D

Akira music isn't the type that puts a smile on your face, but his ambient pieces are perfectly composed, and his style of industrial music is easily the best out there, hands down.

I would love to know from all of you silent hill fans out there which is your favorite album. 1,2,3 or 4.

I myself enjoy listening to Silent Hill 2 and 3.
and Silent hill 1 often helps me get to sleep, mabey a little sinister I know. lol :D But some tracks are very soothing. I wonder if it would be appropriate to help children sleep lol well thats enough now!!

Oh I know him. I think there's a couple of his works in my computer too.

There was a concert for japenese composers once in this convention and his works were listed among others, and I was really interested to listen...but the entry fee was insanely high, so I didn't go. ^^;;

I love Akira Yamaoka. I really can't pick a favorite track but one of my favorite songs from Silent Hill is probably "Angel's Thanatos".

Oh... but Akira Yamaoka's music does put a smile on my face. Like a lot of people i'm only familiar with his Silent Hill work... but it completely kicks ass. Like you said, they're melodic and atmospheric and range from the eerie to the ethereal.

It's hard for me to pick just one. 1, 2, 3, 4 and Origins... they're all good. Two pieces that stick out in my mind are Theme of Laura and Lisa Die. But there are so many great ones.

And when you're talking about the soundtracks you can't not mention Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Joe Romersa. They so kick ass too.

I really like Letter to an Angel and Your Rain. Both are really good! And...vvery unique. Like all of Yamaoka-sans works, they stick in your head.

Super super late reply... but I like 'Promise (reprise)', 'Cradel of Forest' and...which one was during Lisa's death? 'Not Tomorrow' or 'Not Tomorrow pt 2'?
