I'm sure you've all heard of the Daily Mail and all the shit MCR have been getting from it?

If you haven't go here to read the article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...rock-band.html

I think it's disgusting that anyone should blame a band, a genre of music, or just music in general for a teenage suicide. I don't even think that the whole 'emo' scene should be blamed either. Obviously some idiot gave her the wrong info on what emo actually is. Not all emos cut. Hardly any commit suicide for the sake of being 'emo.'

It's even more disgusting that MCR should be blamed. My Chemical Romance make music to save peoples' lives. They make their music to give their fans hope and courage and to help teenagers through tough times they may be going through. Only a fool would believe that The Black Parade is somewhere you go after death. No true fan would think this. MCR are extremely anti-self harm and are against suicide. Heck, Gerard even once said that NOTHING is worth hurting yourself over & nothing is worth taking your life over.

Evidence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWSFiC3FVoE

It's so unfair that MCR are being blamed, I could fucking cry.

Post your opinions. :)

That is so incredibly stupid I want to scream.

First of all, what the hell is a 'suicide cult' band? That is a ridiculous phrase if I've ever heard one. And it is completely retarded to blame a band for a stupid teenager that took their music WAY too seriously, not to mention out of context. Last I checked, MCR did not advocate suicide.

The girl was an idiot, end of story. Killing yourself because you think it's fashionable is the most pathetic thing I have ever heard of. You can't blame a band for having a fan who happens to be overly impressionable and have an IQ of 78.

The song that made her kill herself is one of my favourtie MCR songs.
And I haven't killed myself yet.

People find it easier to blame a removed subject instead of something close and personal. Like maybe her parents, kids at school or something along those lines. When we blame something like music, it makes it easier.

That is so unbelievably dumb. I have no words to describe the bizarre emotion I am feeling right now. similar to rage, only less violent, and, umm.. yeah, like I said, no words.

Despite my usual "uggh, emos" attitude, I actually really like MCR, and no way are they pro-suicide, never mind being a "suicide cult" band.

I can't exactly put words to what I'm thinking, I'm not the best at expressing myself, but I mean, come on! It's just..ugh, so stupid, no, not a strong enough word. I dunno.

I mean, what has the music the girl listend to have anything to do with it? Maybe she was having a hard time in school or something, cause that's much more plausible.
Last time I checked, there's no direct connection between music and suicide, it's just that kids who actually ARE depressed often turn to music that reflects that, as their way of dealing with it.
I suffer from S.A.D, (it is real, look it up if you don't believe me), and I find that it helps to know other people also feel like I do sometimes, and I know that it's not just me that feels that way.

I saw that on Perez and thought it was full of crap. I think that it's stupid that people can take a generalized topic and apply such a heavy stereotype to it as to say that Emo music is influencing kids to kill themselves. All the glorified self-harming and that kind of crap is taken way out of hand with people these days, and these kids who are saying that they do it because that's what the other "emos" are doing is stupid. I know plenty of emos who don't hurt themselves or find Emo music to be anything that glorifies suicide.

I don't understand how things are taken to such extremes by people though. Actually, to be honest, I don't really recall any of the emo music I've listened to to be super pro-suicide or self-harm. I mean, some of it yeah, but that's like one or two songs and I think it was more a reflection of the artist's life who made the song at the time. People write songs about how they feel about their lives. Those who listen to it seek the refuge there in knowing that they can share the same opinions with someone.

I don't know. I can't give a solid opinion on the matter, as the whole topic in general is contradictory in and of itself. >>

hmm... well.. that's what people do. blame others. I'm hope the band isn't broken up about it ^^" that would suck. I love MCR, but that chick who killed herself..well..you don't cut to become emo fashion or whatever. it's the parents fault, not the band O_o.. sounds pretty messed up to me. They should've been able to know that cutting isn't normal. who the hell thinks it is?

I'm on the opposite side of the world so I couldn't go to the protest but if I'd been there I would have went because MCR don't need all this crap, not now not ever. They don't make people kill themselves, they save people. I don't even read news papers here so yeah. I nearly cried when I heard.

MCR FOREVER!

I kind of think the whole thing was handled badly. Anyone who really listens to the band's music, or pays attention to what they say - you know they're not around to advocate suicide. I think it was unfair of the Daily Mail to include that comment so one-sidedly. The article and everything resulting from it was handled rather poorly. It's so stupid and ridiculous - I feel for the band, because this is not what they set out to make music for, and it must be terrible to hear that someone possibly took your message entirely the wrong way.
