So, Who Got You Into Them?
|
Hmm, I get my musical tastes from different sources. One of my tastes is alternative/rock. I blame one of my best friends for that XD <3 He used to send me his old CDs through the mail (he felt bad about throwing them away because they're money XD) and a lot of them were quite good. I'm not sure what were some of the songs that were there though @_@;
Another taste of mine is jpop/jrock. I blamed another friend of mine, who got me into the whole "anime" scene. He introduced me to this anime called "DNA^2" and the opening of it was a song caled "Blurry Eyes" by L'Arc~en~Ciel. Since then, I started to listen to other Japanese artists and bands. I think if I hadn't met them... no, I don't think it'd be any different. XD; There are other sorts of "sources." MTV, youtube.com, other online communities, etc, for a few examples. Nowadays, since I hardly watch T.V. anymore, I get most of my songs from my brother XD; So he's an influence to me, too, about the bands/songs that I like :3 We both have quite a similar taste, hehe <3 |
My older sister got me into a lot of the music I like. I used to automatically dislike anything she liked, as that's just the way things went when I was a kid, but now I'm older I'm finding a lot of things I used to hear her listening to are now the things I like too.
Then there's music TV. I'm a sucker for music videos, so I'll often have them playing in the background and something will occassionally catch my attention and make me think I must get the track <3 |

My father listened to country music, so I got into country that way.
When the whole Dixie Chicks controvery happened, I stopped listening to country. =( I was upset at how an entire genre turned their backs on some great musicians. It was stupid, misunderstoof, and blown out of proportion. One of my exes got me into rock and metal. It was all he listened to. I'd never gone to a concert before meeting him! Now I got to many concerts, go to Ozzfest every year, and I'm really into researching music. |

I like country because it means something to the artist. Most of them write their own music and will only use a few songs written by others for their albums. And it isn't overproduced, filtered, with stupid techno stuff and sampling. Except for Faith Hill, but I hate her music on principal.
After 9/11 I stopped liking country. =( They got really stupid. I like Carrie Underwood, though. I saw her perform before American Idol at a local bar. ^__^; |

Hmm. That's an interesting question. I really don't get my tastes from anybody, as my taste in music isn't the same as anybody in my family, nor any of my friends.
Sure, family/radio/friends/internet have introduced me to bands, but whether I like them or not totally depends on the music. Usually when it comes to friends, it's almost always me getting my friends into stuff, except for my friend Mark who sometimes gets me into stuff too (like Fall Out Boy <3). We give and take. My brother and I share almost all of our music, and usually he'll like what I love, and I'll like what he loves. So my brother has introduced me to a lot of music, a lot of which I end up liking more than he does, because often he's like "So I heard a cool band that I think you'd like." Of course, there are the times where he's like "I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS BAND, YOU MUST HEAR THEM." Then, of course, there are the bands that my favorite bands recommend/are influenced by. Those not so much, but...eh. Like, Pete Wentz has a record label and I really really like most of the bands he's signed. |
Tool, A Perfect Circle, Deftones: My fiancee. He started sending me music and demanded I listen to it, and I liked most of it immediately.
Pink Floyd: My parents. They loved them, I love them, I've grown up listening to them. Matisyahu: Saw him play on the Craig Ferguson show, and he was fantastic. Can't think of many more at the moment. |

Okay, well then it's a mix of my brother, my friend Mark, the internet/FUSE/radio, looking for bands on a particular record label, magazines, and compilation CDs.
OH. Also concerts. Like Gatsby's American Dream...I knew one song from a compilation album, and liked it...I saw them in concert when my friend dragged me to go see Lovedrug with her, and I fell in love with GAD so I bought one of their CDs, and I love it. =) |
I'd probably have to blame my parents and older brother for a lot of my earlier musical interests. They're the ones that steered me towards the types of music I like today. If it weren't for them, I'd probably be listening to Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears right now.... >_<

I just liked them on my own, bands that I like, I mostly discovered by watching tv, or searching the web for random stuff. Youtube also has helped, with links to other bands for the videos, and stuff. 8) I mean, both of my parents are into rock, but my dad's into like Bob Marley, and Jazz, but my mom's into like some classicish rock and Maroon 5, etc. XD
I'm really wierd. Nobody really introduced me to anything(although, when I listen to bands, sometimes I check out what those bands like, so yeah, that's how I like other bands). |
Essentially, I blame my friend Appleman. [He has no real name to me. Just Appleman. x3]
When I was about..Fourteen or so, he sent me my first Marilyn Manson song [Sweet Dreams] and I really got into it rock/alternative/metal stuff after that. Before then I didn't really have a music taste. But other influences I've had are my parents, who got me into the older 70's/80's stuff, my ex-boyfriend who got me into a lot of metal bands, one of my oldest friends Rebecca, who got me into a lot of rock bands like Stutterfly/Cold/Saliva/etc, and my "ex-friends" brother, who introduced me to the indie-rock genre. |

Most of the artists i'm into these days have been introduced to me through this one friend of mine and Grey's Anatomy, they have some awesome music on that show. Then of course there's the most obvious source; the radio.
My parents had a lot to do with my earlier tastes in music. |

I get my musical tastes from my best friend, Clay. I guess it's from driving everywhere in his car and he only plays the music he likes. Eventually I got into it all too. I'm sooooo thankful he got me into all the bands I'm into. My musical tastes have definately improved. I still fall back into lame music zone occasionally, but that's fine. :D

I listen to a wide range of stuff. The harder stuff, my metal, nu-metal, and grunge side can be traced back to my friend Wes, who introduced me to Sabbath and Korn (let me borrow all their CDs for a month. I listened to them nonstop while I played Gauntlet Legends on the N64 for hours on end) and my brother Vince/former friend Dan who got me into Tool. Dan also got me into some lighter/alternative stuff like Third Eye Blind and Our Lady Peace.
My dad has a huge wealth of musical knowledge. I blame him for most of my classic rock taste. I mean, I used to dance to Prince and Morris Day and the Time when I was 4. Jungle Love ... Ooeeooeeoo. The Replacements, the Talking Heads (David Byrne ... fuck yeah), the Cars, Cheap fuggin' Trick (see 'em live three times. God Rick Nielsen rocks so hard), Ramones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc. We also have a "family" musician. No, I don't mean like the Partridge Family. Everyone in my dad's house digs John Hiatt. You may not know his name, but you've heard his music. He's written songs for Dylan ("The Usual", Willie Nelson ("Most Unoriginal Sin"), duetted with Elvis Costello ("Living a Little, Laughing a Litte"). "Have a Little Faith in Me" has been butchered ... er, covered by Jewel, Joe Cocker, and Mandy Moore. The Jeff Healy song "Angel Eyes" was a Hiatt song. The man's a god. We named our dog after him. He's probably my top singular artist. In fact, whenever we road trip anywhere, with family or with friends, I require that we start off with a Hiatt mix CD (starting off with "Drive South", of course). My favorite band, Echo & the Bunnymen, I heard of because of Donnie Darko. The movie's okay, but the opening song spoke to me and I soon found myself investigating them. I've never been the same since. I actually get frightened when I think of life without the Bunnymen. And through their influences and contemporaries I've fleshed out my tastes. I always knew about Bowie, but Mac of the Bunnymen got me into some of his less famous songs. |
i got my taste my taste by my parents i may not of been born in the 80's but i sure love the music from Kiss to Alice Cooper to Ozzy to bands of today from my friends or the internet and tv like Korn and Slipknot...and the Murderdolls because of the computer @-<
it sounds really weird falling in love with bands from the internet but *sigh* its true... (i have in life only love for music) |
My sister.
She's constantly downloading new songs onto our computer, I'm forced to listen to them D; |

Nice, haha. Yeah, my influences come from all over the place. Anywhere I see a band could be considered an influence on me . |
