January 11, 2016 - DAVID BOWIE
David Bowie passed away last night. A moment of silence for this amazing musician.
I discovered David Bowie many many years ago, back in the high school days. I can't remember how I came upon his music exactly, but I have a feeling that part of his song "Space Oddity" was used in a car commercial or something. It caught my attention, and I proceeded to google the lyrics that I knew. One of my high school friends was obsessed with David Bowie to the point of wanting to marry him. I was never that obsessed, but I did love his music.
EDIT: I just remembered that it was a different song that was in the car commercial - "Major Tom" by Shiny Toy Guns. I heard "Space Oddity" when some characters were singing it in some movie. I distinctly remember the "Planet Earth is blue, and there's nothing I can do" line being sung. I forget what movie, though.
So here is "Space Oddity," the song by David Bowie that I love and treasure and will listen to in his memory.

EDIT: Found this in star2000shadow's journal and was so touched by it. Commander Chris Hadfield recorded this rendition of "Space Oddity" while he was on board the International Space Station.

I have another David Bowie song to share. This one's lyrics struck me as fitting for the situation in a bittersweet way. "I'm happy. Hope you're happy too." I kept playing it back just to hear this line again...requiescat in pace, David Bowie <3
