January 15, 2016 - HARRY POTTER MUSIC

Requiescat in pace, Alan Rickman. Within a few days of each other, David Bowie and Alan Rickman both passed away at the age of 69 because of cancer.

When I heard about Alan Rickman's death this morning, I almost couldn't believe it. My favorite character played by Alan Rickman was Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movie series. I fell so in love with this heroic character that I sort of immortalized him in my mind. And the fact that the actor who played him (whom some of my friends have been so fortunate to have met in the flesh) passed away is just so disheartening.

As a tribute to Alan Rickman, I would like to share some of the music I loved from the Harry Potter movie series.

I loved this song the moment I heard it because I had been a huge fan of the "Double double toil and trouble" verse by the three witches in Macbeth. In fact, I used to have the entire act memorized because I loved it so much. I thought the way they set those lines of the play to music was fantastic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSEA18UsNXc

And this is "Hedwig's Theme," the beautiful theme song everyone would associate with Harry Potter films. I recall playing a woodwind instrument to this piece in a school orchestra when I was younger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VDB-orRMpA

And lastly, here is a wonderful compilation that someone made of the best musical moments across all of the Harry Potter films. I have shared a link that starts at one of the moments involving Alan Rickman as Severus Snape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDst...u.be&t=1h24m4s
