I'm sorry if this is a repeat thread, but I didn't see any posts about Death Cab for Cutie what so ever in the past three pages in the music subforum.

Mkay, so, Death Cab for Cutie is my favorite band, and a couple weeks ago I was browsing through pages of bulletins on myspace to see if I had missed anything from my friends, like surveys, etc, and then I saw a bulletin from Death Cab announcing that they would have a new album out in MAY!! Their last album, Plans, is from 2005! It's been so long.

If you go to http://www.deathcabforcutie.com , the enter site page has a studio video of production of the album, with new background music. It sounds SO awesome. I can't WAIT.

Also, I was reading the death cab message boards, also on their website, and supposedly one of the really long tracks on their new album will be called 'I will possess your heart'. Do you think this is totally balogna? That just doesn't sound like a Death Cab for Cutie song title. EDIT: This has been confirmed to be a nine-minute 'can jam' on the album.

Discuss:
News you've heard about their new album
Are you excited?!
Hopefully they'll start touring again after the release!

UPDATES!
'Death Cab Throwing A Curve Ball On New Album.

Quote:
On the as-yet-untitled album, due in late May via Atlantic, likely opener "Bixby Canyon Bridge" falls into the former category, while "The Ice Is Getting Thinner" "just breaks my heart every time," Harmer says. "It's a really pretty, electric guitar song ... it's somber like [the last album's] 'Brothers on a Hotel Bed.'"

Most unusual: the nine-minute jam "I Will Possess Your Heart," of which Harmer says, "We hit our stride on that song. We looked at the habitual things we've done in the past and tried to move beyond them."

The album also features the Long Winters' John Roderick and Pedro The Lion's David Bazan "singing on a couple of choruses, like a men's choir," as well as the song "Casino Blues," which frontman Ben Gibbard has previously debuted during his solo acoustic performances.

... Chris Walla describes the album as "really weird. It's really, really good, I think, but it's totally a curve ball, and I think it's gonna be a really polarizing record. But I'm really excited about it. It's really got some teeth..."

Walla adds that it's "louder and more dissonant and ... I think abrasive..."
Oh wow! What do you guys think? In the article, it talks more about how death cab might lose a lot of fans with their new album because they kind of just stopped thinking about what everyone else would think about their new album. I really hope I like it. I would hate to be disappointed by one of the best bands ever.

Another:
I have the youtube links to a couple songs mentioned- apparently, Ben Gibbard played The Ice is Getting Thinner and Casino Blues during his solo tour. If you want to listen to them, here they are!
The Ice is Getting Thinner
Casino Blues

I have their live DVD it's awesome.

That's a good question. I'm assuming it's a global release.. I really don't know. All they've said about the release is that it will hit stores sometime in May.

I've watched some clips from their live DVD on youtube- it seems great. I plan to buy it, eventually. Working on owning ALL of their music first.

Mmhmm.<3 Have you heard any of their older stuff? It's really good as well. I hope their new album can combine the feels of their newer and older stuff, if that makes sense.

Mhmm, plans is great. :)

President of What is probably the first of their older stuff I have heard. It's pretty good, one of my favorites on Something about Airplanes. Have you heard any songs from We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes?

-tries to keep the topic on their new album- I hope it incorporates the sounds of all their albums.

I need to get their older ones.
Either limewire or actually spend money on itunes to get the quality sound.

I heard a song by GymClassHeroes.
I really liked it because it was a tribute to all of their favorite bbands.
I'll post the lyrics.

"I took cutie for a ride in my deathcab
She tipped me with a kiss I dropped her off at the meth lab
Before she left she made a dashboard confessional
And spilled her guts in cursive but whats worse is
I could still see her bright eyes like sunny day real estate
Oh my and in a funny way it irritates
So high but no chance
My little chemical romance left a bad taste in my mouth
But I imposed her like hey mercedes why the long face
Why you cryin? theres no need
Just put on this coheed and fallout
Boy meets girl jimmy eat world
But Schlep eats pills till hes all out
Not once not twice she was thrice times a lady
Mackin on brand new, but I had to
Bounce over to the postal service to
Pick up these pills that take care of my nervousness
And all the way I saw planes that were mistooken for stars
She played games but she took em too far
At the drive in
Watching soft porn and you can tell
By the trail of the dead, that there was somethin in the popcorn
I hop in my cab destination midtown
Just to get up with some kids that like to get down
I'd made my rounds and that was that
In between the frowns and scraps and heart attacks
And I remember I seen her ass in early november
On a thursday takein back sunday for a refund
She shot a wink like no hard feelings
Then she jetted to brazil man them pills had me spun

This is the story of the year right here
This is hot water music
Put ya ramen into it"

There are so many band references.

Sierpe- Buy them. x) It'll support them, and yeah the quality is better. There are small things that you might not pick up in the songs if you get them off limewire. and lol, that song is cute! I love how the death cab reference is first. : ) I also like some of those bands.

Ewic- Well Dntel is mostly electronic with no vocals, but I think their best song is (This Is) the Dream of Evan and Chan. The beat is really good, and of course, Ben Gibbard does vocals. I'll like anything he sings. >.>

No, I haven't listened to Daphne Loves Derby. When I get time, I might check them out though.

I'm psyched!
There a ton of cds I've been dying to hear.

I love GCH, I saw they in concert with plain white ts', cute is what we aim for and Fallout boy.
It was such a rad concert.
I took the day off from school to wait in line for
7 hours.
Way worth it.

Any good concerts you've been too?

I'm glad you enjoyed it! And no, I haven't. Since I started liking them, my favorite bands either haven't been in town or nobody told me that they were. Death Cab hasn't been touring for a while, MUSE was here a few months ago but I MISSED IT, it was like 8PM that night when I realized their concert was starting. I was so angry. And mychem (what a combination) was at edgefest earlier this year, but I just recently got into them.

So I'm waiting for my first concert. It'll be great though.

Oh my thats too bad.
Losing your concert virginity is well so fulfilling.

Some kids at my school acutually pay bands to come play. They're good, not famous but they sound great.

-You look NewYears beautiful-

Yea In summer we have local 'hardcore' bands play at the skatepark.
And what else would Vermonters do? Drink Rockstar and smoke pot.
I don't smoke. Its icky. Pretty funny to watch the results though.

I hope it leaks soon.
Every day I get on I'm going to count down until May.
Then in May we should hold a party for it.

Well something like that. 8)

Fantastic news. Death Cab is fantastic.

I'm missing one of the songs from Plans because my mother's crappy CD player put a nice scratch right through that track. D: Lucky it only messed up one track though.

Curses... and I really liked that song. Can't recall the title... Track six it was.

Thanks for the name. <3
I was too lazy to google it just then. xD

I somehow managed to convince my computer to rip it onto media player today. *le sigh* So pretty! But the second half skips all over the place and sounds like the chipmunks. ^^
