Hi Cammy Boy,

I'm going to move this thread into the Music sub-forum that's just at the top of the Media forum page as you'll get better responses there and because this is a thread discussing music. ^^ If you have any questions, you are welcome to pm me.

Of course. xD
A friend of mine did a project about that, only it was "How Does Music Affect Pets?" I found it pretty interesting.
I do think music has a HUGE effect on people. I listen to things like Slipknot, Seether, etc. I'm known as an aggressive person in public. >.>
I do get my fair share of easy listening music, though. Nevershoutnever! kind of lulls me to sleep. xD

it doesn't nessicaryly affect humans in the way that it affects animals, tho animals are easily affected by alot of things so it does not prove that music can actually do that. listening to heavy metal and rock doesnt make you an aggressive person, your aggressive my nature, the same with any kind of music.. music does not make the person.. the enviorment around you does!

As Acid Drop said, the environment around you effects who you are. Thus, music absolutely has an impact! It's not as though there are sounds which will cause you to succumb to mind control (though it is, technically, plausible). At this point, I would say, musicially, we're capable of altering people's emotions and possibly even their psychological state. I've heard rumor of sounds that can make you feel as though you're under the influence (of alcohol, marijuana, etc), and I have to say it does make sense. If you've ever been in those states, you can attest to sounds being altered. Therefore it makes sense that if you hear the same sounds, or the same type of sounds, your brain would eventually fire chemicals accordingly.

Anyway, I think we could totally control actions through sound if we just understood a bit more about the brain. If nothing else, I believe that the brain is susceptible to aural tampering.

Very much so. If I'm listening to the Plain White T's when I'm getting dressed I'll wear light happy colors. If I'm listening to Rancid I'll throw on some black. Most og my clothes are black so it's hard to dress otherwise. D:

I don't think so much the music affects people, unless it's very explicit, ie: Marilyn Manson and his songs about suicide and the like, rap groups glorifying the 'thug life'; so much as the lifestyle behind the music, aka the 'scenes'. Rock scenes these days seem to be very pretentious and stuck up, and people getting into a certain band can get sucked into the personality. People who listen to a lot of hardcore rap often get sucked into the lifestyle they're hearing about. You know?

Dunno if it's really what you're looking for, but music always affects my actions. On a larger level, the music I listen to has really helped me - cheesy as it may sound - find who I am and what I want to do with my life. However, I believe that what I subconsciously wanted was what drew me to the music I like, not vice-versa.

On a smaller scale, individual songs can affect my mood greatly. I've learned to use this to help control stress - for instance, yesterday the kids in the library were bothering me, so I thought of one of the songs played at the concerts I went to over the weekend, images of the show followed, and I was immediately calm again.

For what it's worth, I am, above all, a JRock fan.

Most definitely. Emotions usually effect our actions so if music effects emotions it leads to action as well.
And especially lyrics have the strongest impact on actions I believe. Because when we say something, whether we believe it or not, we speak it out into existence and that's the first step to something happening which is why people should NOT sing about things like killing, raping, or anything else unless they themselves want to reap the words they have sown. It's much more serious then most people think but in my experience words are extremely powerful. But just as some can have negative effects singing about positive things can change a person whole perspective over time so yeah, I know people like listening to angsty music...I myself do, but unless you seriously want to be an angsty teenager all your life listen to music that will hopefully help you mature a little too.
