Okay this might be a stupid question, but if I were to say "she pointed the knife right at the base of her skull" or the like, would people rightfully assume I'm talking about the back her neck where the brain stem is and under the cerebellum? *is looking at a brain diagram*

It's because I have a character that is trying to kill his/her self (and the symbiont creature attached to her brain primarily by the brain stem) by stabbing herself there.

I would think it was the back of her neck, since that to me is where the skull meets the neck, thus the base of the skull. I certainly wouldn't think she was putting hte knife up to her throat, as it would state that otherwise yes? xD

Considering the context they might. The base of the skull is in the back. I don't know if that helps though.
