So I'm having a speech competition and the theme is Reflection. I need people to critique ASAP because we're competing tomorrow! Thanks in advance!

Good afternoon parents, staff and promoting class of 2009. This is an honor for me, to be speaking to all of you today. These past three years have been very tough and challenging, but has also been exciting and worthwhile. The friends that we have made and the groups that we have formed have become very important parts of our lives that are going to be difficult to say good-bye to.

We have faced many obstacles to reach where we are now. All starting from when we first stepped foot onto Mills. Some of us were excited and ecstatic, others were shy and scared. We let go of being shy and became more out going. It was a fun year filled with new friends and experiences.

We moved on to 7th grade year filled with even more joy, laughter, and friends. Although we may have drifted away from old friends, we also made new ones. We had many laughs like the day Meyer lost the shoe drive and wore a tutu with a 49ers jersey, and when Mr. Franklin dressed up as a princess. It was a great year filled with many new things such as: Mills' own leadership class, lunchtime activities, and the weekly video news.

We reached 8th grade year, our last year here. It seems to me as if it flew by, but we had lots of fun. We’ve done many things this year such as the Chico State fieldtrip and the 8th Grade Promotion Dance. We also had three new teachers who have been great to get to know. Many great things have happened that I will always remember and cherish.

“Somewhere along the way there’s got to be some aspect of what lets you get to achieve your dreams. First one is the role of parents, mentors, and students.” This quote by Randy Pausch leads me to my next subject. I would like to thank the entire staff of Mills, our parents, and our classmates for always being there for us and helping us get closer to our dreams and goals.

“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” This quote is pretty relevant to this occasion. We’ve had so much fun these past three years; I can’t believe it’s over. All my experience here as helped me a lot. If you look back to 6th grade year would you have thought that I would be up here speaking to all of you? I would never have imagined it, but here I am speaking to you about the past. So we should be happy that it has happened, because I am sure that everyone here has grown in the past three years.
