Where is my Spark?

I was writing a book for 4 years and all that time i had no spark. No way to blast it all out on my computer. No inspiration that drove me to put my heart into it. I have redone it like 5 times and I still don't have anything to be proud of. I have an entire world in front of me and I can't write about it. It makes me angry that i have had writer's block since I started. I just need help getting it started. I am a procrastinator and i need a way to get past that. I need suggestions on how to get through this.

Well, you need to ask yourself some questions like "What exactly interests you about your book?" or "What parts kill your interest for your book?"

I hope that approach helps.

Here's a trick I learned from National Novel Writing Month- If you get to a point where you're stuck, skip it for now and write the next part you want to. Then go back later and edit/add. It works because you can skip past boring parts and do them later when you feel up to it.

I can't believe they put that as a tip; it just seems obvious to me.
I tend to do that but then I never go back to the part I skip (since it's something I doesn't plan on publishing anyways).

I can see why they would have that as a tip. Sometimes when people are trying to write, they get stuck on that ~one part~. It's like a blinder effect because you'll get so frustrated with "omg i need to get this right" that it won't even occur to you to try writing something else.

Hmmm.... I have the same problem (sorta). That might actually work. O__o;; I must try it for myself! Thank you!

A body without a soul is just a corpse. The same applies to writing.

Probably the reason you still aren't inspired is because you weren't inspired in the first place. It'd be like trying to re-ignite a love with someone you never loved in the first place. And even if you can fake it, it'll never be like the real thing.

Writing's like that.

Maybe you should try thinking back to what made you want to start writing the story?
Or maybe you're taking the wrong path with it... Have you used the same storyline each time? Try experimenting with different stories in the same world, maybe one of them will fit better, and give you more inspiration. It could be that the story you're writing doesn't quite feel right or fit with your perception of the world... It could be the characters or some flaw in the plot that isn't quite right... Does the story seem too similar to something you've already read? Is that the problem? Are the characters not real enough? Is something stopping you from empathising with them?

I can't really do more than offer suggestions, but I hope they help!
