When We Are Completely Alone
 

~~ I've been wanting to create a story in a world that I've been imagining for a few months now and I've been working really hard on the characters lately, but I haven't much of a plot. I figured I'd start posting what I've got so far here, and even do a little brainstorming, if that's allowed. If not, please, please, please let me know! I don't mean to break any rules or do anything wrong, but as far as my understanding of the Lit Room Rules went, I should be okay... Comments are welcome, but please don't be too critical of me! I'm not much of a writer and I'm just looking to have a little fun with this creative outlet... ~~

** To begin with, the story follows the interesting cases of four different sets of people (who may or may not end up meeting somewhere along the way) as they live in the first steampunk world I've ever imagined. So I will start with describing a few of the characters (whose names I may end up changing before writing the actual story) that are in the works and their stories. **

Case 1: The main character being followed in this case is Fallen. Fallen is not human. He's not sure what he is. No one is. When he gets angry, something inside him changes, and on occasion, one (sometimes two) large, black iron wing(s) extend(s) from his back. He is shunned by most, but has a bigger heart than anyone would imagine. He struggles to find his place in a world that would rather he didn't exist.

Case 2: Fallen is not the only one in this world growing wings. Alanova discovered a way to grow wings and fly about whenever she wants. Almost. She cannot fly unless she is completely alone (does that sound familiar to anyone? ;) ). In fact, its difficult for her wings to even grow when she's merely speaking with someone over a telephone. Very few people know about her ability, and they are all very close to her. They advise her to keep it to herself and to avoid growing wings at all costs. Alanova, however, wants the freedom to fly and plots to run away in order to do so.

Case 3: Braeden is an assassin. From a guild of assassins. They all hate each other, but they have a common purpose: to disrupt the world that destroyed their lives. Each member has their own reasons for joining the guild, but Braeden is a mystery to them all. He rarely speaks even a word, but outside of the guild and outside of carrying out his missions, he has the perfect cover. No one among the outside world would imagine that he could even possibly be an assassin. In the quiet, coastal town of Gillian, he finds some of his equipment is in need of repairs. He meets Riley, the vibrant young blacksmith. Both skilled and smart, she catches his eye and the two get along well and become friends. But Riley is a member of an association that is out to discover the assassin's guild, taking out members one by one if necessary.

Case 4: This case follows Gallagher, a traveler and a loner. He is witty and humorous in appearance to a passerby, but his inner self is quite different. When dealing with certain types of people, or with people who try to get closer than merely an acquaintance, he is angry and contemptuous. In meeting the shy librarian in Rutherford, one of the busiest and most academically sedulous cities in the world, he is his kind and funny self. To Edeline, the librarian, some of what he had mentioned to her made him seem an enigma. Greatly interested in the man and desperate to visit other lands, she resolves to join him in his travels only to find him to be completely different than he appeared at the start. The closer she gets, though, the more she sees into his heart and is reminded of someone from her past.

I love this story a whooolleee bunch! I know you've told me about this already, but reading over it again and really thinking about it, I'm getting really excited. X3 All of your characters are awesome and I love the different situations going on. You're inspiring me to work really hard on my Wisp story!

Characters:

Edeline

Edeline is curious and intelligent. But she is also a hopeless romantic and she dreams of adventure. After she joins Gallagher in his travels, she is chosen by Chronos to wield the Great Key of Time, one of the most powerful artifacts possessed by his family.

Edeline has a natural curiosity. She loves discovering new things. She is also crafty (she loves to hand-make things) and she is actually quite the mechanic.

Edeline also does her very best to look for the best in others


Gallagher

Gallagher is almost a complete introvert. Even his closest friends do not know how he truly thinks and feels on matters. His closest friends do not know how angry and hurt he is on the inside.

His family and other people get to see that anger much more often. If anyone he doesn't know troubles him, he usually lashes out verbally.

His inward struggle developed from his family's issues. His grandfather is Chronos, the head of the family labeled as the Keepers of Time (so Chronos is quite often referred to as the Keeper of Time, himself). Gallagher's mother and her brothers and sisters are therefore considered Extraordinaries, those among the people of the world with "great gifts" in abilities and powers. Gallagher's father, however, was an ordinary, making Gallagher and his mother the subject of revile and mockery among his relatives. Thus, Gallagher grew bitter. :/

Chronos, on the other hand, did not approve of his family's behavior toward his daughter and Gallagher. Chronos had great things in mind for Gallagher.


Chronos

Chronos, the Keeper of Time, is Gallagher's grandfather. He favors Gallagher over all of his other grandchildren and has great expectations of him. However, he awaited the person who would change his heart. Such a person must be Extraordinary. :)

After meeting Edeline, he knew she had an important future role in his family, so he entrusted her with the Great Key of Time.



Fallen

Fallen is not sure what he is, but considering he awoke in what seemed like used to be a warehouse all alone and with mechanical parts pouring out of him every which way. He had sense enough to figure out what went where and when he finished "repairing" himself, externally, he appeared almost just as a normal human would.

He had slight memories of a childhood and a family, then a man named Dr. Adelbert who must have taught Fallen many things. He also feels pain and experiences emotions, so he has trouble understanding what he is exactly. He feels like he should be human (or even was human once), but he doesn't know how he got to be the way he is or anything.

Fallen has a deep care for the human race, but he is often feared or shunned by most people.


Alanova

Alanova is an Extraordinary. Her family is unsure how she is so, because as far as they knew the family in all its past generations had been ordinary. They fear if people should find out, so they made her keep to herself, to their home, and to never use her Extraordinary ability.

Being the bright and cheerful girl that she is and longing for some kind of true friendship and social outlet, she schemes to run away and dreams of being free to go where ever she pleases.


Atalie


Riley

Riley was raised by her uncle who was a blacksmith. He trained her as an apprentice and soon, her skill as a blacksmith surpassed his own. He retired and had an inn built with a shop connected to it. He became the innkeeper of the Port Town Gillian, and Riley became the master blacksmith at quite a young age. She took on an apprentice of her own, a friend of hers named Claudio who was a few years younger than herself. She met Claudio after she joined an arcane association of "assassin hunters," of which Claudio was also a member. This group has taken a stand against another secret organization rumored to be called "The Guild of Assassins." Riley's parents were assumed to be killed by this guild, thus she was approached in secret with an invitation to join. Riley accepted and was trained to fight any such assassin. Although, she doesn't go out of her way to seek out assassins, she knows what to do if she comes across one.
