The Second Born ~A bit of help?~
Okay so, I know this is more or less in Roleplay form here, but it is a story I was working on a ways back and I have been revamping it. I'd love to get some feed back as this is the beginning of my tale. There are some rough spots I know, and you don't have the full story but I'm kinda hoping that you would inform me of what hooked you (if anything) and what would draw you in further.
~20 years ago~ Elena whimpered softly, feeling the first signs of birth stirring with in her. "Delza....I..I think it's time." she shifted uncomfortably in the bed and felt the woman stroke her fingers over her head as she whimpered once more. "Shh...don't worry child, Delza is here to care for you...Lanai and Mikal should be here soon." The old woman glanced to the closed door playing with something in her pocket. Her fingers stroked the woman's head as she clenched the bed sheets tight as the first wave of pain hit the woman. A knock came at the door and she waited silently her eyes cold as she heard yet another. "Delza..its us." a deep voice said behind the door. The woman cleared her throat before speaking, "This is no place for a man, stay out there for now and send Lanai in, I could use a woman's touch." She heard a slight chuckle and an exchange of whispers behind the door until finally it opened. Lanai slipped inside whispering in hushed tones at Mikal. "He'll put the barriers up..." she said quietly her dark hair framing her pale face as she looked towards Elena. "Milady I'm glad to see that you are safe." She moved towards the bed and sat on the edge reaching for a cool wet cloth. "Is there anything I could do for you Delza?" she asked as she patted tenderly at Elena's forehead. The old woman made a small noise but didn't say anything. Glancing back Lanai noticed the woman bent over some herbs and recognized a few as healing and pain relievers. She watched for a moment as the woman mixed in a few herbs she didn't recognized before turning to Elena who's pain had hit her yet again. "Lanai...go...help Mikal...I..I'm fine." she said through gasps of pain. Lanai didn't know that she wanted to leave Elena alone, especially considering she didn't know Delza all too well. She dipped the cloth once more into the cool water as the pain subsided, probably for only a couple moments. "Move back for me child, I must administer this to her before she grows closer. I don't think I need as much help as I thought. Why don't you help Mikal..." the woman's words sounded more like a command than a suggestion which only irked the mage. One look at Elena told her though that she wanted Lanai to help with the barriers, especially if it meant her child would be safe. "Very well..." she said casting a cautioning gaze upon the elderly woman as she tipped a clear liquid into Elena's mouth. Slipping out quietly she turned to Mikal as he glanced back at her questioningly. "Where did you find this woman?" she asked quietly looking back at the closed door. "You made it so that only we could hear inside right?" she asked her fingers twitching as she resisted the urge to strengthen his spell with one of her own. It would only insult the man if she did that. The night seemed quiet, the sky was clear and the moon waning just below full. A gentle breeze brushed along her face, pushing her hair slightly revealing her dark eyes as she studied Mikal. He was only a few inches taller than herself with a light muscular figure. His almond shaped eyes were much like her own, with specs of gold within his brown orbs. Unlike him she was only a half-elf, an outcast to her people, and whats more hunted as was he. These were hard times with any who bore the accursed mark hard times indeed. She looked down at her gloved hand and sighed before looking to Mikal wondering what was running through his mind, and to her surprise he was smiling at her. |
