Window (Work in progress, critique if you desire :)
Every night, I have the same nightmare. I've been having it since I was a little kid- a large, snarling monster with big, red-stained fangs and claws that's three times the size of a man staring at me outside my window, something apprehending it from coming in. I never understood what that meant, or why it's been going on for so long.
I've even gotten to the point where that doesn't scare me anymore. If it's just a dream, what can it do to me? Really? Nothing that I should be truly concerned with, that's what. So I never even talk about it; it's useless to talk about anyways. “Jason, honey, are you ready to go?” I hear my mom call out. My family and I are going on a cruise for vacation this year. We're not well off money wise, however- we won this in a raffle. So, we saw the opportunity and we took it. No one in my family is fond of boating per say, but why not? It's free, after all. We board the ship, which is gigantic. Then we get to our cabin, which is gigantic. The director, Ryan, tells us if we need anything to contact him. We tell him we will be glad to, and he leaves us alone. “How cool is this?!” I say, excited to explore around. “Extremely. Jason, you can go have fun and make friends. Come back to the cabin by 8 though, alright?” Mom says. I nod and thank her for permission to leave. My little sister, Sienna, asks if she can come with me. As I leave, Mom tells her no and Sienna throws a fit. Gosh, I love my family. But sometimes they bug me. Slowly I walk through the halls till I make it outside the cabin keep, where I find a gigantic dock with lounge chairs and a pool. “Isn't it slightly ironic that there's a swimming pool on a craft made for water?” I hear a voice ask. I look over to see a girl with her blond hair tied back tightly, wearing a pair of dark sunglasses and a black tank top with matching shorts. “Yeah, it really is, isn't it?” I laugh in agreement. “So how did you manage to get on the boat?” She asks, “Did you pay or are you on a field trip?” “Actually, my family got an all-expenses payed trip by winning a raffle.” I respond. “Ah, sweet. I'm here on an internship. Which is just a nice term for free labor.” She says. “So you work here. Then can I get a frozen mocha supreme with extra whipped creme?” I ask her. Her eyebrow raises, and I laugh, saying “Just kidding.” She smiles, then asks my name, to which I tell her. “I'm Meredith. But most people just call me Edith.” She says with a shrug. “Cool. So, could you help me out, Edith? If not I can find someone else.” I ask. “Yeah, sure.” She nods. I explain some concerns I have with the visa the company we won the trip from gave us, and she eases them all away instantly. Then she gets paged, and has to leave. I tell her when she gets off we need to hang out, and she agrees. |
