Turned to Ashes
"Hiya. This is a short sotry, done in between other stories for class. It's basicly based around the world beig crrupted by humans, jeaslousy, and divorce along with a few others that somehow worked their way in.
"I would love to have comments and major critique done and this has not been edited (excluding myself) so please be aware that there may be some odd mistakes. "It's three pages long, on word document, thank and have a nice read" |
Turned to Ashes
A world of two halves, co-existing with a peaceful understanding of the others’ way of life, live alone, rarely coming into contact with one another. The first is of the water and the other is of the land; blue and green. These two societies, with different principles, beliefs and traditions have come to a happy medium where they go about their daily lives without causing strife between their communities. This was how they lived for years, branching into centuries. It became a motion that was replayed throughout each generation, but all motions can be stopped and that is just what happened. Both groups awoke to find an odd creature, one of the likes neither group had seen before in their individual areas. To the blue group; these creatures were the colour of faded coral as it reached its last leg of life, the dull shine of a fish’s eyes as it passed into the next world. Although this creature was nothing like them physically, they too had a love of water, a playfulness that was almost contagious in its’ joyful innocence. To the green group, the creature reminded them of the skin of a pig, pink and just as gluttonous, with the agility and grace of a stump. And just like the blue group; they found aspects of the creature that they too had in common; this creature loved the trees; the wind across its body in the top-most branches, and to play; to run and jump and enjoy all types of games. With this being the case, both societies took the creature in. Years passed and the creatures grew. They now had fur on some parts of their bodies while others remained as they were. Their bodies had grown and they had gained the grace and speed that they had previously lacked. As they continued to age, they became more adventurous; trying out different games and ideas that led them farther and farther from their groups’ territories. It was on a day such as that, that the two creatures met. While they could not talk to one another, they felt a kinship that they did not with their own groups. They continued to meet behind their family’s backs until one day they came together in a new and different game: one of the creatures was pregnant. As it was, both groups found out and were elated: they planned a feast of both fish, fruits, vegetables right where the green met the blue. Both groups danced their own dances and sang their own songs. At the end, when the sky turned violet and rose, both groups were tired and eager to sleep only. However, one question remained: which group were the creatures going to stay with? Before an argument could arise, it was decided by the couple that they would mediate and move from one group to the other every few suns. Both groups found this answer to be satisfactory and so it was decided that every three sunrises, the family would switch territories and stay with the other group. This went well for the next few months, until the pregnant creature began to grow larger and become restless. Its paws hurt to walk on and it’s back began to ache. Both groups decided that it would be best for the creature to stay in one place. The same debate (as that of the party) arose once more, only to be quelled again by the family. They decided that the creatures would stay with the Blue group, much to the Green groups chagrin, because it was easier for the creature to get around in the water and more comfortable. But once the creature birthed the family would move and stay once more with the Green group for a similar amount of time. |
Nine months after the party, the creature gave birth. Just like its parents; it looked wrinkled, pale and ugly, but had a glow to it that enticed the two groups. As per the agreement, the family moved back to the Green group and began raising the child.
As the child grew, it too found a sense of adventure and because it had spent little time in the Blue groups’ territory, the baby creature obtained a greater urge to venture into the water, where new adventures and games could be found and played. This created a jealousy in the Green group as it felt the Blue group was stealing the family all for its own. The jealousy turned to anger, and then into a blind rage: the Green group was positive that the Blue group was stealing the family for itself! So the Green group set out to remove the obstacle that dared bar it from the family. This resulted in a war. The war lasted many solar cycles and created more and more misunderstandings that just continued to pile up until one new sun, neither group knew what they were fighting for. The Green group grew to believe that the Blue group was frivolous with idiotic customs while the Blue group grew to believe that the Green group was barbaric and overzealous towards the family. Whether either group was right or not, did not matter. All that ended up mattering was; who was the winner in the end? As it turned out, the Green groups’ enthusiastic ways made them the overall winner of the war: the Blue group was no more. The family questioned little of where the Blue group went and continued on with their days as they usually would; only now they were larger. As the sun had risen and set, the family had multiplied and was now equal the Green groups’ diminished populace. The Green group did not care though; they were elated that they had won and that there was more of the family for them to play with. More cycles went by and the family continued to grow and adventure; creating new games and becoming more inquisitive as the suns went by; they wanted to know why this grew here, or why they couldn’t talk to the trees or move as quickly and gracefully as their Green counterparts could. They began inventing. Their first invention was designed for faster movement. They could sit quite comfortably and not exert any energy into the action, yet they would move twice as fast as they could run. The Green group applauded the family’s achievement and urged them to make more. The next invention was similar to the first, only it was designed to move on water. Again the Green group applauded them and again the family continued to invent. |
The inventions became larger at first, then more compact as they got better at their ‘technologies’ as the family began to call them. As they made more and more ‘technologies’ they began to distance themselves from the Green group and make their own places on the Green and Blue home.
A few of the Green group began to worry; the waters of the once Blue groups’ home were becoming a murky grey-. No longer were they crystal clear nor did they sparkle; even some of the creatures that lived in the waters were now floating, belly-up, at the surface. But even as they voiced their fears to the rest of the group, they were hushed: the waters had nothing to do with them. They lived with the strong and intelligent trees that could never be harmed, or so they thought, for the family, finished with all the inventions possible to do with water, had moved onto the forests. They were playing with fire; literally. The family had accidentally found out about a source of heat that could do many things: merge items together, reshape things, and even destroy them into nothing but black dust. They were enamored with their new-found ‘technology’ and immediately began thinking up new ways of using it. That was how a large amount of the forest, and the Green Group was lost. Two ‘children’ of the ‘humans’ (they now referred to themselves as ‘humans’ rather than the family), had found the ‘fire’ in their parents’ room and decided to play with it. The colors it made and the shapes it formed grabbed their attention and enticed them to become more and more adventurous in their game. The ‘fire’ grew and grew until the two ‘children’ couldn’t control it and it began to attack them in its anger at being harnessed. Their sharp cries mixed with the smoke reached the Green group as they were talking with the trees of the ‘humans’ ‘technologies’. The group set into action and rushed into the burning inferno, just managing the save the ‘children’ but not making it themselves. For you see, the Green group is connected to the forest; it is their life line and when the trees were burned down, the Green group followed. The ‘humans’ were now alone on the ‘Earth’ (a title they gave to the Green and Blue home that they got from the Green group), with nothing but their ‘technologies’ and themselves for company. While yes they grieved for the Green group that had raised and reared them from the beginning, the ‘humans’, like they had with the Blue group, forgot about the Green. More inventions were made, terra was paved, and newly grown trees were sliced down and covered with asphalt and housing. The world became repetitive: wake, work, eat, and sleep and bleak as the once vibrant colors of the ‘Earth’ turned to the product of fire. |
That was quite enjoyable and I really liked it, as i have said in other posts I have a real passion for writing and espcially writers themselves! xx

"Yeay! I got a reply!" Jumps up and down happily.
"Thank you for reading it. I was pretty sure no one would, but I'm glad you liked it. Your response is very much so appreciated!" |
the land: blue and green
To the blue group, these creatures were the All that ended up mattering was: who was the winner in the end. usually would only now they were larger. newfound I like it. It reminds me of a Gorillaz song. It reads like an ancient tale, but is updated. Well done! |
