I was going to enter Yume's story contest, but didn't have time to complete my tale. But I'd still like to finish it and go ahead and post it here, as it's been something I've been wanting to write, literally, for years. Hopefully, posting it here will motivate me to continue on it and get it written! Hope you guys enjoy it!

Steam - An Elemental Tale of Love

Every object in existence has a story behind it. Some of these stories are simple and of no consequence, such as of a visit to the marketplace on a sunny day or of stepping on a flower as you walk down the street. But others are more epic. They might speak of a turning point in someone's life, of death and renewal. They might even speak of the liberation of whole nations that didn't even know they were enslaved.

I've not seen this belt in many years, but its story is of the latter. It was crafted by an Earthkind stone mason whose name has long been forgotten, but it still carries so much meaning within each ruby and heartstone. No, it wasn't our salvation. But it certainly speaks of the two who were.

I remember him well. He was hated by my people. Even I fell for the propoganda and the stereotypes. I assumed he was evil and heartless, as I was made to believe all Waterkind was. And yet, there was no one kinder or gentler or more full of optimism. He certainly opened my eyes to who the heartless truly were. And she? Well...she was my sister. Someone who was always trying to do the right thing and meet the expectations laid at her feet as a daughter of the Fire Chieftain. We knew our duty and our place and never questioned what was told to us. She would have lived her whole life like that if it hadn't been for him; if she hadn't learned what it meant to truly listen to her heart. And I would have done the same if she hadn't...wait. I'm getting ahead of myself.

Are you curious? Of course, you must be! You're too young to remember what it was like...before. Everything that happened took place long before you were born. Let me tell you their story. Let me take you back to a time when all the elements were segregated. When being pure of blood was about more than mere pride. When it was a matter of life and death.

It all began in the Firelands on the day of Eithne's Hrada - her coming of age ceremony...
