Chapter I : Love on 1st sight?

Lilias shut the door with a loud bang, leaning against the door and panted slowly. She clasped her right hand to her chest, and before she could completely catch her breath, another shout came drumming into her ear drums.

“Lilias! Can’t you be a little bit lighter?” Lilias’s roommate, Evelyn came out from the kitchen, wearing a white lace apron waving a ladle around. “You gives me such a fright until I spread more salt into the dish!”

“Evelyn, sorry, spare me now,” begged Lilias slowly and went to her room. This time she closed her door gently.

Evelyn was bewildered, and stood right there, thinking. Another girl come out from the bathroom, obviously finished her bath seeing that she was still drying her long brown hair with a towel.

“Was it Janice?”

“No, it was Lilias,” answered Evelyn. “She seems to be having some trouble. Sallyn, the hairdryer is in your dressing table’s left side second drawer.”

“How do you know I am looking for my hairdryer?” said Sallyn, looked at Evelyn astonished. Then, Sallyn realised how Evelyn knew, because Evelyn was staring at her still-dripping hair. “Ah….Lilias, that is unlike her.”

“Well, you can go and sneak all the answers out,” shrugged Evelyn.

“Evelyn,” said Sallyn suddenly become serious. Evelyn gave her a look, waiting for her to continue. “I think I smell something.”

“What is it?” asked Evelyn, began to sniff. “Well, there is a curious smell…”

“…Comes from the kitchen…” murmured Sallyn.

“Oh my goodness!” cried Evelyn dramatically, quickly dashed back to the kitchen. “My stew!”

Sallyn stared after Evelyn, laughed heartily.

Lilias put down her bag and file on the table and went to turn on her computer. After logging in, Lilias went to open the programme Sallyn developed. The programme was a sort of spying programme that collects many visuals aids from all over the world through satellite. After being with Sallyn for such a long time, Lilias managed to steal some skills on computer. She swiftly type in the preferences and searching through the results the satellite had given her.

After one minute of browsing and searching, Lilias had got what she wanted. To complete one assignment, Sallyn had installed many spy cameras around their apartment quarters, which was unnatural for the society though it was already the 21st century. Sallyn even managed to get connection from the satellite which was still very expensive to get access to.

On the screen was a boy at his 17s, brown curly hair, tall, wearing rectangular sunglasses, a blue cap, black shirt with white skeletal picture on both sides and blue jeans trousers. He was playing with the wires of the Visual Man.

“Now, now, who are you?” muttered Lilias, and open another programme which was created by her and Sallyn, “Face Simulator Programme”. Lilias uses her tablet to trace out the boy’s major features and generates it through the info of the “World Citizen Record”.

There were trillions and millions of data to search matches for, it will take more than half an hour. Lilias limit the range by entering her location and her possible guesses. While waiting for the result, Lilias went to change her clothes, and went inside the bathroom to wash her face.

The signal for the final result came, which was the sound of applaud claps. Lilias dried her face and went back beside the computer. There, now showing on the screen, to her relief, only one result.

“A gangster,” concluded Lilias. “But why is he following me?”

“Lilias, are you okay?” Sallyn knocked the door.

“Yes?” Lilias went to open the door.

“What happened?” asked Sallyn entering the room and sat down on the end of the bed without Lilias’s permission. She looked around and noticed the computer screen. “Who is that?”

Lilias closed the door. “A gangster,” replied Lilias simply. “Out of the blue, this guy is following me everywhere I go since 2 days ago!”

“Scary!” said Sallyn. “Who had you provoked?”

“No one!” moaned Lilias innocently. “Really. Do you think you can help out here?”

“You want me to help to find the reason why is he following you?” smiled Sallyn. Before Lilias could answer, Sallyn jumped towards the computer chair and start banging the keyboard with her flying fingers.

Lilias sat down on the bed watching Sallyn at work. Lilias looked at Sallyn with proud admiration.

Sallyn Sheran might be clumsy, forgetful or untidy, but she was a clever and sharp girl. Sallyn was now studying for her Master Degree of Computer Technology. Sallyn was so good with computers until she had already started earning her own living since her young age of 13. Sallyn was now a game programmer for an online charity game and huge sum of cash was transferred into her bank account every month.

Well, Sallyn was not the only one that was great in this unit of apartment.

Evelyn Elliott, hot tempered and impatient, but was now studying for her Bachelor Degree of General Medicine. Evelyn Elliot had already finished her Professor Degree of Cuisine when she was 15. After 3 years of earning money as a cook, she finally had the chance to study Medicine so to fulfil her dreams as a doctor. Though, her friends keep suspecting how could she be a doctor if she was so impatient?

Lilias Harley, absent minded, slow and lazy as she was, yet no one could have guess that she had obtained her Professor Degree for Languages Clause 5, which means she could officially become the licensed interpreter for 5 languages she had learned, English, Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish. She was now studying Bachelor Degree of Psychology.
