OK! It's that time again. It's October, which means that National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo) is just around the corner! For those of you who've not heard of Nanowrimo, it basically challenges you, for the month of November, to write 50,000 words in 30 days. It doesn't matter if it's not polished - it's just about sitting down and doing it since that's something that holds most people back. We talk about how we want to write a story, we have the story in our heads, and yet we never actually sit down and do it!
http://www.nanowrimo.org/
I've done it 3 years, I believe, and it's the reason my current story actually exists! I'm contemplating doing it again this year to perhaps write part 2 of that same story since I've been talking about it for a few years now.
But Nanowrimo's fun - it's fun cheering your friends on who are doing it too and you can even meet local writers in your town - they have people called MLs who kind of take charge over a city and try to arrange meetups so you can talk to others who are doing it near you.
I just wondered if anyone else was planning on getting involved this year? Or had done it in the past?

I've done nano a few years in a row. I usually top out at about 20k words. This year I'm going all the way ^-^ I'll be recording my story here on mene and on Gaia ( always good to have many backups) and if you post things here I'd be glad to read them.

Woohoo! Good to see other people who've heard of NaNo. This is my third year, and my second as a co-ML. Hard to believe it's already a week into October.
Good luck to everyone participating!

I'm so glad this was posted! I've done nanowrimo once before (last year) and greatly enjoyed it. I didn't get as far as I would've liked, but I'm still very pleased with myself for at least trying. I plan on trying again this year- I'm still in the planning stages, but that's what October is for, some would say. I don't normally do well with writing long stories- I quit halfway. But I don't want to do that. This year, I'm going to give it my all! Good luck, everyone!

I wished I had the time to join this year. I'm in my graduating year, so I'm preparing for my finals now. Last year I registered for Nano, but didn't get around to it. Lol. >___<
Good luck to everyone who participates! : D

Yay NaNo! This will be my second official year doing it and I'm planning to win this time. Last year I tapered off halfway though, school and all. Is anyone else doing plotting ahead of time?

I'm doing it this year!! I'm so psyched!
I attempted it last year, signed up November 9th, 2006... but I only got a little more than 7,000 words. I was a novice. So this year I'm redoing last year's story, so I hope I get it done!! It needs a lot of work, I haven't fleshed everything out yet. ;.;

I've tried the past two years, but without much luck...this year I'm planning on sticking to it though. I have a long story I wrote many years ago when I was still in high school, and I'd like to rewrite it...or basically just recycle the characters. I think I can manage that much. :D I'm getting excited though; I've been rereading my old manuscript and I can't wait to work with those characters again...they were always my favorites.

Wow, it's great so many people are looking into doing this. I was an ML one year and it was pretty fun, though admittedly in the area I was living in at the time, there weren't many people participating. I'm still undecided if I'm going to do it this year or not. We'll see when Nov. 1 gets here! lol

Aliena, I admire you. I tried to run a teen group last year and snapped a bit under the pressure of doing that (though then again, it would have helped if the people who said they'd go actually came ... *cough*)
But here's to hoping you go crazy and decide to go at it this year! (:

I've been thinking about doing it this year. For the next fifteen days, I will be brainstorming!
Which is a kind way to say, I have no idea what I want to write about. o.o;;
I really want to take on the challenge so I can have motivation to finish.

Dise will be doing it this year! Last year, I made it to 30000 words and stopped because of finals. This year, the dreaded Finals Beast shall not pwnz me! I swear this as a girl with a will of SOLID ADAMANTINE.
SOLID ADAMANTINE.
I'm doing all my prep work beforehand and not forcing myself to write chronologically. XD; I'll write the scenes I like, then I'll write up the filler (since hopefully my Liked Scenes will be about 30k words. maybe 40k...)
SO what's up?

I'll probably give it a shot. Last November my friend and I did a competition. I was writing for a different reason though. I was trying to get posting privileges back, as my dad had grounded me until I wrote 20 pages. So, for a whole night we raced back and forth, randomly putting up word counts...>> I won... ^^;;
But If I can think of a good idea, I'll try. I jsut got an idea today, But i wnat to start on it now, and I don't think I can get 50,000 words out of it.

You should give it a try, Spoon. It's not really about getting a polished novel done, it's about actually writing.

Pfah! I have a plot! >:D
A full plot. I mapped it out to the end.
Stretching the plot to the end of the story was always my problem.
Tests and finals and the like have never been the evil beast for me. Oh, no no.
I have actually gone through my life so far without ever studying for a test.
I don't plan on studying in November for my finals. I've got two weeks in December to study if I actually don't understand the material.
It's the homework assignments that get me. Especially when I'm sucked into the world of writing, I never manage to remember to do my homework.
Not this time! Not only is homework routinely diminished to an Algebra worksheet, a few Spanish pages, a Music Theory worksheet, and a few English novel pages (bear in mind: this is every two days.), but it takes me a maximum of thirty minutes each day, leaving me (if I stay up until midnight like I usually do) seven hours of free time a day. On weekdays. That's some really nice writing time.

Yeah, I can't write my stories chronologically; I get annoyed by the less interesting scenes if I try to write them when I don't want to. I start at the beginning, jump to the middle, maybe on to the late middle, back to the beginning...
@Bubblegum - I've had that problem too. More often, though, I start with a good, well-reasoned plot, only to have it hijacked by my characters and pushed in a different direction halfway through. I've ended up writing several pages' worth of alternate middle and ending possibilities before. (I figure if you're writing, you're writing. I learned the first year that you never delete anything, just stick it in italics to kill later if you decide you don't like it.)

I've only heard of Nano recently. I've made up two plots to choose from. One which is mostly just about romance, fantasy, war. The other one is about fantasy, mystery, romance, and a very classic theme.

My story has lesbians, the super natural, mermaids, bitchy gays, and all takes place (well, the not dead parts anyway) in a stereotypical town that I'll have a field day making work.
BUT I AM SO EXCITED THIS YEAR ZOMG.
