Quote:
The Girl with the Red Umbrella

---

Katie chocked her tears back as the yelling continued to echo from her house, her life was a broken record, the same thing happened each day and she couldn't take it anymore. The screen door slammed shut as she stormed out, her parents to busy screaming their lungs out to notice. "God, this shit sucks" she whispered as she crossed the street, one good thing about her house was the old and seldom used park which sat just across from her home.

Katie let her cigarette hit the sidewalk before stomping out the flame, she sighed as she walked to the swings, the swing moved back and forth, each time going higher and faster and making Katie feel as though she was flying. "Hello" she heard "What the fuck?" she said as she almost fell from her swing.

She looked to the swing next to her, a young girl sat there gently swinging, her face and upper body hidden by a bright red umbrella. "I didn't mean to frighten you," the girl said in a low drowsy voice, Katie sat silent as she stared at the shadow behind the red umbrella.

Katie took a deep breath, 'Heh, I was scared of a little girl' she thought as she let her swing sway in the light breeze. "What are you doing out here, alone?" Katie asked, she thought she knew all the kids in the neighborhood, however she had never seen this mysterious girl.

The girl shifted slightly, though her face stayed hidden, small ominous whispers filled the park though only the girl could hear them, "I am lost" the girl said, worry filled Katie's' face. The girl's tone was still low and drowsy and made Katie wonder for just a moment if the girl was still of the living.

"Lost?" Katie questioned, the girl shifted once again this time her face was shown, Katie fell backwards at the site which stood before her, the girls face was completely blank except her stitched up mouth. "I am lost, just like you will be" she said just as Katie felt something grip her leg, she struggled to get away, but it was too late, her screams were muffled by sand.

The girl stood, "In the shadows he watches you, in the shadows he waits for you, in the shadows he feeds on your fear, in the shadows he comes for you, in the shadows he takes your soul and in the shadows you become lost in him" she whispered before slowly walking into the shadows as the park filled with malicious laughter.

When children strike back

---

Once upon a time there lived a little girl who was much like other eight year old girls. She lived with her mommy and played with her dollies everyday. And each night before she escaped into dream land, her mommy would read her a story about princes and princesses and castles and dragons.

Each day she would help her mommy cook and bake; she was a perfect little girl. However, one day she decided she wanted to eat a cookie before dinner. And so she reached into the jar, but before she could grab her cookie, her mommy slapped her hand, "No cookies until after supper" her mommy said.

Now this made the little girl very angry with her mommy and so she took her mommy's knife and slit her throat - the little girl was very happy now because she could eat all the cookies she wanted.

Trick or Treat

---

The cul-de-sac filled with the laughter of children dressed in Dracula capes and princess crowns, the words 'Trick or Treat' filled the chilled air as candy was poured into bags scattered with ghouls and bats and plastic jack-o-lanterns. "Timmy?" Glenda yelled out for her son who had just disappeared, she began walking around looking for her missing son.

Timmy clenched his jack-o-lanterns handle tighter, the creepy little girl who had been following him since he left school that day had yet to stop and he began to worry. In hopes to feel safe he walked up to the first house he saw, it looked pleasant even if the yard was covered with tombstones, zombie hands and jack-o-lanterns, there orange fire filled eyes staring into his soul.

He knocked on the door and fixed his pirate hat, which had fallen over his eye while trying to run away from the girl. The brass door handle slowly began to twist and the door opened with a distasteful creak. "Trick or Treat" he said smiling as big as he could. An old lady stood before him, a wrinkled hand on her chin, "Oh dear" she said, she had forgotten to buy the candy.

"I have no candy" she said sadly and he nodded understandingly, "Thank you anyway" he mumbled as he looked up from his jack-o-lantern, which only had a few pieces of candy, horror stuck the young boy. Standing behind the old woman was the young girl, a large kitchen knife in her hand. He hadn't even seen her walk by. "Wait!" he screamed as the woman went to close the front door, the woman stared at him oddly.

"I told you, I have no candy, so go," she said making a shooing motion. "But she is going to kill you" he said, pointing to the naughty little girl. The woman turned around, but she saw nothing, "Young man, where are your pa-" she began but was cut off abruptly, the little girl had shoved the knife deep into the woman's lower back; she fell to the floor with a 'thud'. "Trick or treat, give me something good to eat" the girl giggled "No treat, you must do a trick, now play dead" the girl giggled even louder.

Timmy reached down to pull the knife from the woman's back, afraid the girl would take it and use it against him. "Timmy, there you are" his mother said as she walked up to him, not even noticing the woman on the floor. As Glenda noticed the knife in her sons hand her face grew pale, Timmy dropped the knife to the floor as his mother looked down at the woman laying on the stoop in a pool of her own blood.

"Oh, Timmy!" she screamed, Timmy looked down at his feet, "It wasn't me" he said tears flowing down his cheeks. "Its all her fault" he pointed to the girl, and just as the old woman, she saw nothing. His mother dropped to her knees and hugged her son; she knew he had gone insane. "My baby" she moaned, the girl smirked to Timmy as she walked out the front door and disappeared into the night.

All Timmy could say was "It wasn't me, it was the girl – the girl killed her" as they loaded him into the patrol car.

Beneath the Bed

---

"Mommy?" Maggie asked as her bedroom door slowly crept open, only the slither of the hall light glowed on her, "Mommy?" she asked again, hugging her teddy bear closer to her chest.

I am gonna get ya!

Maggie ducked under her blanket and tightly curled into a ball, her face buried in the teddy bears stomach. Fear shook her whole body, "Mommy?" she screamed and the lights flashed on.

I am gonna get your mommy!

"Maggie?" she heard and quickly leaped up, "Daddy" she said hugging him tightly, her father stood, slightly shocked and half asleep. "Maggie, honey, whats wrong?" he asked caressing her back.

I am gonna get your daddy too!

"Leave me alone!" she screamed and her father looked down at her.

"Honey, who are you talking to?" he asked looking around the room.

"Can't you hear him? Can't you hear the whispers?" she cried out and he father sighed.

"How many times have I told you, Maggie, the boogeyman doesn't exist" he said hugging her closer.

"Daddy, I know he isn't the boogeyman… he is scarier," she said looking around, worriedly.

"That's enough, now lay down and go to sleep, I promise you will be okay" he said and tucked her in.

Maggie laid down and hugged her teddy even closer, a small tear falling down her cheek, her father went back to bed, though he left the door slightly open, Maggie hid under her covers once again.

You can't hiiiide!

"Leave me alone" she whispered, closing her eyes tightly, she felt something grip her leg. "Please no" she screamed as she felt herself being pulled off her bed.

Your mine!

"No, Daddy" she said as she was pulled under the bed, he screams nothing but a distant whisper.

Four

---

Sune looked up from the notebook she held in her hand, the building that stood before her was amazing in her mind; not because of the odd architecture, but because of the secrets the old brick shell may hold. She looked to her best friend and smiled. "It was built in the late 60's by an American company, they actually wanted it out here in the middle of nowhere, I guess they wanted privacy; for some unrecorded reason it was shut down not ten years after its opening." She said looking for an opening in the fence, Mio shook her head, she really didn't care for researching or the supernatural, all superstition was nothing but lies told to scare children and foreigners. Sune giggled excitedly as she peeled back some of the old chain link fence, "Come on, Mio" she said making a motion to the opening with her head. Mio groaned, she hated when Sune drug her into old smelly places in hopes they would see a ghost, "Fine" she said as she crawled through, Sune not far behind.

Sune smiled as they stepped into the dim lit building, "This is so cool" she said in amazement as she looked over the many dusty chairs and other items which scattered around the main room. Mio placed her headphones on; it was nothing but old things, which didn't interest her at all. Sune grabbed her friend's arm, dragging her even more into the building. "Lets go upstairs" she said as she looked up the long almost never ending staircase, "Lets just go home" Mio said before sneezing, "I hate dust" she grumbled under her breath. Sune began to walk up the stairs, though she suddenly stopped as she felt something lightly brush her neck, "Mio, stop it" she said slapping at her neck. She turned around to scold her friend only to find she was still at the bottom of the staircase, Sune gulped slightly as she looked back up the stairs. "Mio?" she said raising her voice, Mio looked up from her shoes, "What?" she said taking the headphones off one ear.

"Lets keep going" she said, fear slightly pinching at her nerves, Mio rolled her eyes and followed her friend further up the steps. It felt like an eternity but they finally reached the top, Sune was amazed to see a large hallway doors lining each side. "500" Sune read on the first door, "Wow so many" she continued as she placed a hand on the door. "I am staying here" Mio yelled as Sune began to walk away, Mio sat down on the top step and turned the volume higher. Sune was far to busy with the many doors to even notice Mio wasn't with her anymore. Mio hummed with the music, though she grew silent as she felt something caress her leg; slightly shocked and worried she looked down just as a long purple tongue wrapped itself around her ankle. A high-pitched scream filled the old hospital, though Sune heard nothing.

Sune hadn't realized it but she was already at door number 67, it slowly opened with a metallic creak, Sune turned and stared at the dark slit in the door way. She placed her hand on it, it was ice cold and Sune smiled as she slowly pushed it further open. The smell of mold and rotten things filled her nose, but she didn't care, the room was dark but now that the door was fully open small bits of light filled it. It was small, an examination table stood in the middle, there were no windows only, no nothing just the bed and some odd tools, which sat under years of dust. Something moved and brought Sune out of her excitement, the empty bed now had a large lump covered with a dusty white blanket. She gulped, fear gripping her once again as she pulled the blanket quickly off, before she knew it she was on the floor and the door slammed shut with a loud bang. Fear played with worry as she gripped the handle, it wasn't locked; she sighed with relief and stepped out.

"What the hell was that?" she asked Mio, but quickly realized her best friend was nowhere to be found, "Shit" she said under her heavy breathing. She searched her pockets for her cell phone, the two girls never left without their cell phones, especially when exploring a dangerous place. "Pick up" she said impatiently as it began to dial, a low ring began to echo from room number 50, Sune quickly ran. "Mio?" she said as she looked into the room. On the floor laid Mio and a pale woman crouching over the unconscious girl, her long purple tongue sliding across Mio's face, "Mio!" Sune screamed, the woman looked to Sune with a devilish smirk as the large metal door slammed shut. "No!" she screamed slamming her fists on the door, it was locked and Mio was stuck inside with the odd woman. Sune looked to the floor where she had dropped her phone, it was gone and bloody handprints filled its place. She fell backwards, her back hitting the wall, 'What have I done?' she thought with crystals tears filling her eyes.

Sune was confused, she didn't know what to do, the door wouldn't open no matter how many times she swear at it or tried to beat it down. Poor Mio was stuck and her cell phone was missing, she only had one choice, she would have to leave Mio and go get help. And so gathering the little courage she had she stood and began running the way she had came. Sune leaned over trying to catch her breath, her two hands cupping her knees for balance as she slowly looked up. "No… this is impossible," she said as she looked over the door, which stood in front of read room number 6. She shook her head, suddenly she heard Mio call her a small hopeful smile curved on her lips. Sune didn't have to go far as Mio's distant whimpers became screams as she came to door number 4. A low growl filled the hall, Sune looked to the end of the hall where she had heard the noise echoed from. A large Japanese man stepped into the dim light, which illuminated from the boarded up windows. Sune screamed as she saw that his head had been cut open and the flesh peeled back. His rotting brain pulsed as puke slowly ran down his lips, Sune felt her stomach turn.

The man growled once more as he stepped forward, she quickly pulled on the door handle, the door opened just in time. "Oh, God" she screamed as she heard him hit hard into the metal door, she may had been locked in, but he was locked out and that's all that mattered. The room was so dark Sune couldn't tell if her eyes were open or closed. She jumped as a dim light began to glow before her, a low cheerful tone hummed lightly; it was Mio's cell phone. She quickly grabbed it; "Hello?" she said franticly, a low buzzing filled her ear, "Hello?" she screamed. "Help me" she heard someone say, the voice sounded tired and forced… it sounded almost dead. Silence was all she heard next, "Fuck" she cursed… the phone had died. Sune slammed the phone into the wall, cursing continuing as she pulled her knees up to her chest. Small scratching sounds filled her ear, she looked around but all she saw was darkness just as before.

The sounds grew closer, she was now paralyzed with fear as she felt jagged nails slid up her bare leg, her breathing deepened. "Stop it" she whispered the nails digging deeper into her skin, ice cold breath leaked onto her neck, the lights suddenly flashed brightly on. Sune was now alone in the room, scratch marks filled the walls, pieces of ribbed nails and blood could be seen stuck in the marks. Her stomach turned once again, she took in her surroundings as she placed a hand to her mouth. The room was a lot bigger then she had imagined, she slowly stood, the floor was covered in the cloth and feathers of old bedding. Sune looked down at her leg, there was no mark, but she still felt the stinging pain. "Sune" she heard her name called, she spun around to find Mio staring down, her long black hair covering her face. "Mio" she said happy as she walked closer. Mio still refused to look up, Sune placed a hand on her shoulder.

Sune's hand was quickly and tightly grasped in Mio's hand, which was ice cold. "Mio" she moaned trying to take her wrist from her friends grasp. Mio looked up, her face pale and her eyes black, a wicked smirk spread across her lips. Her other hand slid to Sune's throat as she continued to try and get away, "Mio, stop" she moaned, tears falling from her eyes. Sune felt her breath slowly disappearing, "please" she chocked out, but Mio continued to tighten her grip. Darkness over took the hospital once again as Sune felt many hands grip her and drag her deeper into nothingness.

Victoria Brighton

---

Once upon a time in a land far, far, away in a very small town hidden away, lived a young girl named Victoria and her famous and beloved blood red roses. Now, when we say blood, you might think to yourself it is just a color; however, that is not the case with Victoria’s roses. Our story begins in the small town of Rottenburg, now do not let the name fool you, everyone in Rottenburg was so painfully perfect and sweet. Everyone except Victoria, who was not so sweet and perfect, she hated people, she lived all alone in her quite little house with its perfect garden and chipping paint. Victoria was only ten years old, and many wondered where her parents and baby brother had gone.

Some said she murdered them in their sleep and buried them in her garden, others said they ran away because little Victoria was just too scary. No one really knew and after awhile people had just forgotten about her family completely, now Victoria did not want to be forgotten about like her family, so she began to send blood red roses to the townspeople. Soon everyone knew who little Victoria Brighton was, and as much as Victoria hated people, she loved the fame. Every week she would send dozens of her special roses to the townspeople and every week someone new disappeared and no one knew where they had gone, and soon they to were forgotten. Of course Victoria knew where the people had gone, as did her queer little cat, Shadow.

One day, when all the roses had been sold for that week, a beautiful young woman wanted some of Victoria’s roses so badly she went to the queer little house on the hill where Victoria lived. “How do you get your roses so red?” asked the woman, as she looked the dozen rose bushes over, each covered with many blooming buds, Victoria stood smiling, he black hair tied up in two pigtails with re ribbons, a black skirt fell just past her knees, in her arms Shadow sat leaning against her blood red shirt.

“Would you like to see?” she asked with a twinkle in her grey eyes, the woman nodded happily and Victoria led her to a pink garden shed. It was quite dark inside and the woman was hesitant to enter; however she did anyway. As light slowly filled the small room a loud shirk filled the air, scattered about the shed were legs and hands and heads and axes and knives and blood, it was a horrific site and the woman wanted nothing more then to escape, when she turned to run Victoria was standing in front of her, a smirk on her lips and a bloody knife in her small hand. The woman screamed one last time as pure red blood splattered onto Victoria’s lacey white socks. The next day the village rejoiced at the site of the new roses and no one ever noticed the woman was gone. And so it went on, the roses came and the people disappeared and were forgotten, however Victoria was never forgotten; she made sure of that.

Mommy's Only Rule

---

She wiped the remains of blood off the porcelain face, before setting the doll back in its rightful place, the only spot on the shelf that was not thick with dust. “I am so sorry, I told her you were not a toy… she was not supposed to touch you!” the woman said as she fixed the doll’s long black hair. She turned around and faced the young blonde girl, which lay in a mangled mess on the stained carpet.
“I told you not to touch it,” she whispered as she lifted the mess of a body. The girls neck bone protruded from the broken skin, her mouth a gap in a silent scream, and her once blue eyes were now murky black, like that of dirty water. “I told you to never touch it,” she seemed the repeat as she carried the girl up the staircase.
The girl was set in her bed and tucked in like she was still of the living. “Heres your teddy,” a brown stuffed bear was tucked in next to the cold body. “Good night, sweet heart, don’t let the bedbugs bite,” the woman kissed the girls forehead and walked out of the room, turning off the light as she went.

Princess Isabella

---

It is said that the life of a royal princess is nothing but peaches and cream, however what is unknown to those outside the castle walls is that it is quite hard and can be quite bloody at times. Princess Isabella was greatly loved and looked upon highly and that became even more so when her parents mysteriously died while they slept. The kingdom became hers and everything within that was her personal plaything. Each day the villagers would come to the palace and beg for help, and at first that is what they received. However, more and more young Princess Isabella would stay up in her room and play with her special dollies and would refuse to help anyone. She loved her dollies very much; each one was specially made for her and each one was equally special. When she tired of one doll she would just have another made, it was good being a princess.
Soon the village was ridden with grief for they discovered that their young daughters had been coming up missing. Panic-stricken and worried that a huge carnivorous beast had been taking them, the villagers went to the castle for help and as always the guards turned them away. One man refused to go, he had to talk with the Princess; his daughter was all he had left. The man snuck into the palace and past the chatting guards, up the long spiral staircase and to the Princess’s room. He swung the door open and to his horror her found his beloved Princess cradling his daughter’s body, the Princess feeding her a fake bottle; tight doll clothes and bright make-up covered the empty shell.
Anger boiled in the man as he grabbed Isabella by her arm and drug her outside, even after the guards commanded her to be put down. On the hearing the screams and pleading of the Princess the villagers crowded around. “What are you doing to our Princess” one lady yelled in fear. “People hear me, I have some grave news” he began and tightened his grip on the wiggling young girl, “It is not a beast that has been taking our daughters, it has been our beloved Princess all along.” He said and gasps filled the crowd. “She has been making them into her play things” he finished with a harsh glare towards the girl with a tear stained face.
All eyes were on her now as many angry murmurs and gasps filled the people, “Why?” cried a mother as she clenched her daughters torn old doll, the only thing she had left of her precious child. Princess Isabella wiped her tears and tried her best to look big and strong, “Because I am your Princess and I may play with anything I’d like” she said with a satisfied nod. Even more angry murmurs and gasps filled the air, “We should burn her,” screamed a man, “No, hang her,” screamed another. The man who had brought her out placed his free hand to his chin and looked as though he was the Thinker himself. “No, I have something far worse” he said giving the young Princess an evil glare. The toy maker was ordered to make one more special dolly; the Princess was incased in hot wax and painted and clothed like so many of her dolls. She was placed in the center of town so all could look upon her smiling wax lips, many children said they could hear her crying and one even said he saw her eyes move.

For Princess Isabella life was not all peaches and cream.

The Shadows

---

“Daddy please don’t go out there…” Catherine pleaded her father,
Richard looked down at his sweet seven-year-old daughter who was refusing to let go of his pant leg.

“Cathy, sweetie theres nothing out there.” Richard tried to reassure his daughter that everything was fine.

“But daddy, there is something out there.” Catherine had a fountain of tears falling out of her small brown eyes; Richard smiled at his daughter’s naive fears and kissed her on the forehead.

Catherine watched through blurry eyes as her father walked out the front door… never to return.

Catherine woke up in a cold sweat as she did every night, memories of the night her father disappeared played in her dreams like a broken record.

It was still quite dark out, but she knew she would not be able to fall asleep again. She lay there and watched the shadows of the passing cars, each leaving a black hole on the ceiling and walls as they passed.

“I’m twenty-two and still afraid of the dark.” Catherine said aloud as another car passed by, leaving its ever-haunting shadow behind.

“But for good reason.” A tiny voice in the back of her mind reminded her… she hated the shadows, they stole her father from her and almost stole her on more then one occasion during her childhood, of course they had not bothered her in some time, but she knows they’re there… watching… waiting.

The Rainy Day

---

I remember that day twelve summers ago just like it was yesterday, the day was humid and the sky scattered with blackened clouds. I was six-teen though we had not had rain in ages and it made me feel extremely childish. Danny, my young brother pulled me from the comfort and protection of my lace umbrella into the cold yet refreshing rain.

While we ran through our green yard we noticed a beautiful yet queer looking woman dancing in circles, we were confused and more then slightly curious as to why this beautiful stranger was dancing in our yard and so we ran to her. However, to our shock and dismay she had vanished and that was left was golden locket sticking out from the mud.

As I pulled on the locket, a decaying hand appeared from out the mud, I fell backwards with horror, unable to move. I yelled to Danny to fetch our parents, on seeing the hand my father ordered Jeb and Claude to dig up whomever was in the muddy grave.

As Jeb and Claude pulled the body out, I was shocked to see the white dress and blonde hair, which had graced the dancing stranger. We later learned she had been the missing wife of Charles Lester, the man who owened the house next to us.

Still to this day I cannot explain what I saw.

The Secret Admirer

---

Clarissa smiled as her and Laura walked to her locker, they had been laughing and joking all day and even when the teachers had scolded them, they still continued with their childish behavior. As they reached her locker the laughter ended, tapped to the door was a red rose. “Who is that from” Laura as she Clarissa peeled the flower from the metal door.

Clarissa shook her head, “It doesn’t say, go figure” she began “Its probably from some sexless nerd” she said shoving the rose into her locker. “Want to go to the mall?” Laura asked as they walked to the doors, school had been over for an hour and they finally got out of the principles office. “Sure” Clarissa said with a shrug as they stepped into the midday sun, that was the last time Clarissa was seen alive by anyone but Laura.

“Why are you doing this?” Clarissa moaned as she slumped in the back of a car, a giggle began to fill her ears; “I always loved you” came the malice filled voice of Laura. Clarissa filled with confusion, “Laura, why?” she said and the giggling began once again. “I wanted you to be mine” she began “But you little slut, you were always in someone else’s bed… but don’t worry, we will be together forever now” she said as a knife gleamed in the moonlight. “No!” Clarissa screamed as the blade pierced her chest, “I love you” Laura whispered as she too fell to the backseat.

The car was found three days later, the two high school girls who had gone missing lay in a pool of their own blood, no one knew what had happened. Sometimes your secret admirers are not always so secret.

Death is all fun and games

---

Samantha walked down the dirk path slowly, as someone who was condemned… and maybe that is what she was, condemned. She knew she was lost and she knew something was following her. Samantha walked away from her stalker, but it somehow it felt like she walking towards it. She knew she was going the wrong way; disfigured ghosts appeared to caution her to turn back. Nevertheless, she kept walking, like there was an invisible force controlling her, pulling her to her death. She sensed the end was near, the woods had become darker, the air was thicker and the occasional shivers up her spine were now a continent reminder.
Disfigured bodies hang lifeless by ropes in the trees and corpses scattered about the woods floor, screams of terror have begun to echo through the empty woods.

“Why can’t I just turn back?” Samantha thought as she felt it getting closer, she could feel the hate pulsing off him. The ghosts’ empty eyes were forever engraved in Samantha’s mind. “What is that?” Samantha said as a lovely house by a lake came into view. Hate no longer pulsed from him…it was excitement. He’s waiting for her, in the shadows of her dreams… in her nightmares.” You can’t hide from him.” A tiny voice said in the back of her mind. A black figure stood in a window, staring at her with his soulless eyes. She suddenly felt like she was under a spell… his spell. He was calling her; he wants her to come into the house. She does not \want to go, but she felt herself walking towards the front door.

As Samantha twisted the rusting doorknob, she felt her whole body go cold and numb. She walked up the rotting stairs; he is hiding from her… playing games. There were many doors lining the dimly lit hallway, but only one caught her eye, it swung opened and closed with a distasteful creak. He is in there, she could feel him, his excited that she has come to play with him. Samantha opened the door slowly, sitting in the middle of the room was a weeping boy, blood covered the room including him.

She found herself reaching out to him, she almost felt sorry for him; when she tried to touch him, he disappeared. Suddenly a girl in bath of blood appeared beside her, she giggled and played innocently. Samantha moved only a step when she felt the girl’s evil glare on her. The girl begun to talk, “He’s coming… he’s gonna’ get you… you can’t run from him… he’ll kill you… just like everyone else.” With that said she disappeared with no trace and Samantha was alone for the moment. Then she felt, he was coming towards her… fast. Her heart was beating so fast it hurt, every muscle in her body shook from fear. Unwanted tears fell down her face as he stabbed her through the heart. The end was finally here, the end to the childish games, the end to the fun… for now.

Daddy's Little Girl

---

“Oh, Daddy why did you hurt me so?” I asked my old and crippled Daddy, who was cowering in his bed. “Why did you always hurt me?” I asked again, pain and hate dripping like venom from every word. “You always hurt me, everyone always hurts me!” I screamed at Daddy, anger flashing deadly in my empty blue eyes. Memories began to flood back: “Mommy, please don’t, I’m sorry! I won’t do it again, I promise!” I pleaded Mommy; I was bending over my parent’s king size bed waiting for my punishment. She said nothing; I closed my eyes and felt the all to familiar sting of the belt. I fell to the floor, my ass pounding with pain, tears slid down my small face. Mommy stood over me and motioned for a hug; for fear of being punished again, I stood up and gave her what she wanted. She rocked me side to side saying she only dose it because she loves me, I never did understand that.

My mind began to travel back to the present when I heard Daddy moan in pain. There he was, the one I hated so much for so long… looking like an innocent child, so helpless, like I once was. I had a knife in my right hand, I wanted to teach Daddy a lesson…I wanted him to feel pain. It was to late to teach Mommy a lesson; she had died ten years ago… to bad. Daddy looked at the knife and back to my face, pure shock and fear filled his eyes… that made me smile. He looked so hurt, so confused… he had gone senile two years ago; he did not remember anything of my childhood, if you can call it that.

I remember asking him why he did it, the answer was always the same; I do it because I love you. The moon shined brightly into the window making the blade shine, I pulled it up and slid it across Daddy’s arm… he whaled in pain. Droplets of crimson blood poured off the silver blade, I pushed it into Daddy’s stomach and once again, he whaled in pain. Suddenly I began to giggle, Daddy stared at me; confusion written all over his face. I stabbed him one last time; in the heart, he stopped breathing and I began to giggle louder. “I only did because I loved you, Daddy.” I whispered in his ear before I walked away.

The Gypsy Curse

---

“Oh, John!” Jessica gasped as she held a quaint rose made of precious crystal, John stood, a large smile placed on his lips, Jessica flung her arms around his neck, “I love you” John whispered into her ear gently. She hugged him tighter, small tears of joy spilling down her soft cheeks, John sat down on a soft velvet chair, pulling Jessie with him, she laid her head on his shoulder and stared down at the rose which sat in her lap.

“Where did you get it, John?” Jessie asked as she looked at him, who was still smiling pride fully, “A young girl gave it to me, and I think she was a gypsy” he said thoughtfully as he moved some hair from her face. Jessica thought for a moment, “Just gave it to you?” she asked, John only nodded. Jessica thought it quite strange, however she just let it go, she loved the feeling of his arms around her.

Many days passed and slowly Jessica became more and more bitter and spiteful towards John, however she only seemed to get worse when she was close to the rose. Worried, John snuck out of the house, rose in hand. John searched the alleyways for the girl, but all he could find was an elderly woman. “Excuse me?” he began as he grabbed her shoulder, she slowly turned to him, “Do you know here I can find the girl who owned this?” he asked as he pulled the rose out of his pocket.

For a long moment she was deathly silent, then she began to speak, “The girl ye speak of I know, though she has been dead four long years” she began, John stared shocked one fearful at the rose he held, “and the jewel ye hold has a curse upon it… if you have any sense boy, I would rid yourself of it and quickly” she said before disappearing into the shadows.

John stood there for a moment before dropping the rose to the hard concrete, the rose shattered into many piecesm John ran home, never looking back at the cursed rose.

The Rose Garden

---

Molly Roberts sat upon her windowsill staring out into the sun bathed rose garden, many days had Molly done this, though today was quite different, for today she saw a young woman walking along, as though she belonged there. When Molly called out to her, the lady never looked up from the rose in her hand, Molly went to go downstairs, but she looked out the window one last time, the lady had vanished and all that was left was one withering rose sitting upon one of the many old stone benches.

That night, when she asked her father about it, he told her “There once was a girl who lived in this house, but after the death of her lover she threw herself from her window… your window. She was found in the garden, her neck broken on one of the stone benches” as her fathers words faded she began to weep for she knew the girl she had seen had been the young woman who had died all those years before.

The Opera House

---

The opera house buzzed with the sound of anxious noblemen and their chattering wives, many sat quietly as others chatted amongst themselves, all awaiting the big performance. A nervous young girl sat alone at one of the many vanity tables, her own drowning blue eyes staring back at her, it was her first time on the big stage and the closer the show got, the more her fear grew.

“Sofia?” a girl who looked much like her, whispered as she stood behind her, Sofia turned around and greeted her twin sister with a nervous smile, “Yes, Angela?” she said her voice cracking greatly, Angela smiled. “Its time for the show?” she began before pulling on her sisters arm, “come on” Angela said before running off to the stage.

Sofia felt as though her legs were made of stone, however she quickly stood and ran after Angela, many other girls dressed in beautiful gowns spread across the stage, though no one seemed as nervous as Sofia. The lights dimmed and came back in bright beams on each girl, music slowly began and the long velvet red curtain lifted.

Sofia chocked as she saw the many people, who all seemed to be staring at her, many of the girls danced around, as others raised their voices in an angelic French hymn. The ballerinas were all graceful, though Sofia seemed to stumble and even knock one of the other girls over.

She wanted to cry or run off the stage, however she just stumbled on, pulling the small courage she had together she tried one of the harder spins, as she spun in the air, her foot caught a candle holder. Suddenly and without warning the beautiful opera house poured with fire and helpless screams.

The people tried to escape, but it was too late, the opera house burned to the ground with over hundred guests trapped inside. Some have said they see a young girl dancing around where the ruins can be found, no one knows for sure, however many believe it is the guilty sprit of Sofia Lamont mourning for the lost souls.
