Stories by me
This is part one of the prologue of my teen vampire romance, Secrets of the Night. (title not certain)
Gaven gazed up silently at the moon. It seemed, like after all his centuries of sleeping, it was the only thing that had remained the same in this world. Upon awakening from his deep slumber, he had found himself in the basement of his old home, but it was no longer the glorious structure is had once been. Layers of dust covered every inch, and the cobwebs were so thick, it was as if a great dense fog had settled inside the house. Gaven wordlessly sent his thanks to the gods. His wards had worked, and no one had set foot in his house while he had slept. For the next hour, he had slowly moved through each of the rooms, making sure that all of his possessions had not been damaged over the great span of years. When he was sure that everything was as it should be, he allowed himself to walk towards the front door. Laughing at the warning sign nailed on the door when he walked out. Once he was outside, he checked out the land. The hill, which his house sat upon, was the same, except for the long grass, and wild plants. But beyond that, it was a different world. For at the bottom of the hill lay millions of lights, spread out below him like stars. Confused, but knowing he must proceed, he started towards the lights. The forest that had once surrounded his home was no longer there. Instead, a dark, black road wound its way around his property. As he started walking, huge, monstrous machines raced his way. As soon as he would step away from one, another would soon take its place. And all the while, the machines roared at him, hurting his sensitive ears. After a while, the machines grew thin, and he found himself amidst all of the buildings that housed all of the specks of brightness. Then, he noticed the people moving along side the structures. As another metal monster came his way, he stepped aside, moving over to where the humans seemed to be safe. The women and men stared at him, and he looked down, realizing why. He did not fit it. His thick, dark brown hair was long, and tied with a leather band at the nape of his neck. Where as the men of this era had very short, bristled hair. And his clothes, the latest fashion of the early 1700s looked strange and foreign to those around him. But to him, he was not the strange one. Why were the women not in skirts? Why were they wearing men’s breeches? Before the mortals had a chance to speak, Gaven ducked his head, and moved away into a nearby alley, only then realizing how hungry he was. He looked up as a young man in a suit began to pass by the alley. Quickly, Gaven muttered a string of words, and the young man stopped and made his way towards him. Gaven bent his head to the man’s neck, drinking as much as possible without harming him. When he was finished, he wiped the man’s memory as he sat him down gently on the ground. Then, with his hunger still clawing at his stomach, he called another man to him. This time, he scanned the man’s memory, trying to find out what he could about the strange new world he was in. Everything he needed swarmed his mind: electricity, music, computers, politics, and history. He learned that the machines were called cars, and he learned of the wars, both between countries, and of the wars inside many people. By the time he was through, tears had formed in his eyes, and he realized that he had awakened in a world of technological advances, and a world of Death and Destruction. He close the twin wounds on the neck, and he set the man down next to the other. Suddenly, a loud sound erupted in the night, with a woman’s shrilling scream soon following. Gaven left the men where they were, and raced towards the sound, curious. And there, between all the tall buildings, a small clearing sat. He looked around. No one was on the street. Everyone had run from the sound. He looked back at the clearing. Towards the center, a young woman sat clutching a small bundle. As he got closer to her, he noticed that it was a small, bleeding child. Gaven stepped towards the women, his feet making small crunching noises on the fallen leaves on the ground. The woman heard the sound, and looked up at him. Regarding his strange appearance, she pleaded with him, “Sir! Please, you must help my daughter!” Gaven got down on his knees and looked into the woman’s eyes. “What happened ma’am?” He asked, already knowing that the sounds had been the shooting of a gun. He did not know why, but he knew that he had to do whatever it took to save this little girl. “A man,” sobbed the young mother, “he jumped out of the bushes at us. He yelled at me to give him my purse, and I did, but then he shot my daughter, and ran off. When she fell, I think I twisted my ankle catching her. Please, she is dying sir. I don’t think that I would be able to carry her to help.” Anger boiled deep within him. How could such violence exist? For no apparent reason at all, Gaven felt the need to find the man, and destroy him, and he knew that he would, but first, he had to tend to the child. “Ma’am,” he asked quietly, “are there any…” dang it! What were the places called? Hospitals? Yes, that was it! “Hospitals near by that I could take her to?” The woman sniffed. Looking down at her child, she replied. “No, the closest hospital is nearly an hour away. I doubt that she would be able to make it.” The woman started to cry again. “I should have gone with my husband to his parents. This wouldn’t have happened if I had.” Gaven cursed silently. She was right; the child’s life force was slipping away. Even if he were to use his power and run, she would still probably not make it. He realized, that if he were to save this child, there was only one way that he could, but it would mean allowing a mortal to know what he was. But, he decided that the woman would accept it in time, considering that her daughter would be the same, and he knew that deep down inside him, changing this little girl was the right thing to do. “Would you love your daughter no matter what, if I was to save her? He asked. |
And here is part two
She gave him a bewildered look. “Of course, but how can you save her now. There is nothing else anybody can do.” Gaven carefully took the child out of her mother’s arms. “There is one thing I can do.” He glanced down at the child’s fragile face. For such a small child to have to go through something like this; it was inconceivable. “I can save her, but she will have to live a very closely watched life. She would also need…transfusions to sustain her, and to continue her life.” The woman stared at him for a moment before looking at her child in his arms. “I don’t care as long as she lives. Please.” Before the woman could change her mind, Gaven bent his head to the little girls nick, and sank his fangs in deep, only drinking enough for his difficult task. Carefully, he closed the pinpricks. As he switched the child over to his other arm, he peeked over at the mother. Her eyes were wide, and she had a look of pure horror upon her face. Surprisingly, she did not cry out or scream in fear at what he was doing. He looked back down at the helpless child in his arms. He had to save her. He felt the need to do so down in his soul. Slashing across his wrist, he put it at the girl’s mouth, and forced her to drink. When he knew that she had taken enough to heal her wounds, he took his wrist away. She stirred in his arms, moaning softly as Gaven handed her back to her mother. The mother looked up, two silent tears in her eyes. “Thank you. Oh God! Thank you!” But then she saw a small drop of blood, still fresh on her daughter’s lips. “Is she a …v-vam…?” “A vampire?” He looked up at the sky. “Not fully. I did not give her enough to change her completely.” The mother nodded with understanding. Gaven then went through and explained everything that she would need to know. Her daughter would need a tiny amount of blood feed or injected into her at least twice a month, she would still age, the sun would not harm her, and she would be immune to nearly all diseases. He also explained the importance of never letting her blood be taken by a doctor. “But what if something does happen, and she gets sick?” “She has my blood in her system, as I have hers. We are forever connected. If something were to happen to her, I would know right away. And do not worry. She will not remember this night.” He said erasing her memory. “I will check in on her from time to time. Good bye ma’am.” He patted the child’s head, “Good bye… Adriana.” He nodded his head at the woman whose eyes were open wide at the fact that he knew her daughter’s name. Before she could say anything else, he turned away, and raced into the night. He lifted his head, breathing in a scent as he ran. Somewhere out there was a killer, and Gaven was still hungry. |
Part of the First Chapter
Chapter 1 13 years later
“Ow” Adriana woke suddenly to the sound of a person in pain. She kept silent, hoping that whoever it was would soon leave, but the sound of footsteps moved her way. Her bed dipped as a body sat upon it. “I’m sorry I have to do this, dear,” the voice of her mother whispered softly. Adriana was about to respond, but she suddenly felt a sharp prick of a needle in her neck. Is my mother drugging me? She silently asked herself. As soon as the needle was taken out of her neck, she quickly sat up, startling her mother. “Adriana?” Her mother asked, “Were you awake?” “Yes.” She said silently, “What did you do to me?” Her mother stood up, and walked over to the wall to turn on the light. The brightness blinded Adriana, causing her to shield her eyes for a moment. Her mother moved to stand over her. In her hand was a needle; blood dripped off the end. [/b] |
LET YOURSELF BE.....a short story I created for English class
Adriana looked up at Marik, her husband as of five minutes ago. As they started to dance, she recalled how they had met, as if, by fate. Adriana sighed as she grabbed the books off the counter. Another day of putting books away, she thought to herself. Each day it was the same thing, working in the library so that she didn’t have to face the lunch crowd. ‘Geek Girl’, that was her name to them, but she was used to it. Ever since she started getting perfect grades, they had pushed her aside. She had no friends, and people only used her to get a good grade. On the other side of the library Marik was picking out a book that he needed for English class. “Marik, if you don’t do the reading assignment, you will fail the class. I don’t think you want to spend another summer in summer school.” Marik recalled his English Teacher saying. Marik had to pass this year. If he failed, he would have to quit his job, and his parents would ground him forever. Marik looked down at the book in his hands and started reading the first page. When he looked back up, he found himself face to face with a stack of books. As he fell, he wondered what had just happened. Adriana fell back stunned. The stack of books in her hands fell to the ground in a big heap. On the ground across from her was a guy that was in one of her classes. He was rubbing his head where a book must have hit him. Marik looked up to see the stunned expression of the girl in front of him. She looked familiar, but he didn’t know why. “I am so sorry,” he said. “I wasn’t looking at where I was going. Are you okay?” Adriana looked into his eyes. “I’m fine, but I think it was my fault. I grabbed more books than I was able to see over.” She now remembered his name. Marik Green. He was a ‘Bad Boy’; he got into fights, and had atrocious grades. But yet, he was so hot, even she thought so. “Are you sure you’re okay? Here, let me help you.” He said as he helped Adriana pick up the books that had dropped on the floor. When he was done helping her, he turned around to grab his own book of the floor. “What’s your name? Maybe…. “He twisted around, no more than to see her gone. He went up to the librarian to ask about the girl. When he did so, the librarian waved a finger at him and said. “You leave Adriana alone, you hear me? She is a good girl, and you don’t deserve her.” Adriana had scuttled away so fast that she had to catch her breath. When she had remembered his name, she had also remembered what he had done to her in sixth grade. It was then when her grades became perfect, and everyone started teasing her, but the worst of them all was Marik Green. Adriana had been walking home from school, when a group of boys from one of her classes came out from behind a tree. “Hey Geeky. Is your mommy proud of you? Does she love all the A’s you get.” yelled Marik. “Why should you get all the good grades?” asked one of the other boys. Marik thought for a moment then said, “I have an idea. Why don’t we take her papers, put our names on them, and tell our parents that there ours?” Everyone agreed on the plan as they all walked towards the small girl. They took all her papers; graded, and papers that were homework. Adriana told all her teachers that she couldn’t find her papers. They were disappointed in her, but they gave her another day to make up the assignments. Marik went up to his English teacher. “So, I started reading the book that you wanted me to read, but I don’t understand it. It makes no sense at all to me.” The teacher sighed. “Maybe I can ask someone to help you. She is very smart and is a very good tutor.” He looked around the room. “Ah, Adriana, would you mind coming here for a second please.” Adriana looked up from her paper to see Marik with a shocked expression on his face. “Yes sir?” The teacher cleared his throat. “Mr. Green here is having trouble understanding the reading assignment. Would you be able to tutor him and help him with the homework?” Adriana thought for a moment. This guy had teased her, not even caring how she felt. But in the library, he didn’t even seem to remember who she was. He had acted nicer than she had thought him to be. She looked at Marik, then at the teacher. “Sure, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to help.” “Good,” said the teacher. “If you could figure out a time to meet and study, that would be great.” He said as the bell rung. “I’m at the Coffee Café everyday after school,” she said. “Okay.” He looked down to grab his book bag. When he looked back up, she had disappeared. |
Adriana was curled up on one of the chairs in the café. As she looked up, she saw Marik coming in the doorway. He saw her, and made his way to where she was at. He sat down across from her, and opened his book.
Adriana remained quiet, waiting for him to speak first. It seemed like forever before he finally spoke. “I’m sorry about earlier. I was trying to make sense of the story, and I wasn’t watching where I was going. Thanks for agreeing to help me, bye the way. I wasn’t able to tell you that in class, because you quickly ran away.” “Sorry,” said Adriana. “I don’t talk to people that much, because people don’t talk to me outside of homework help. In the library, you kind of scared me. I thought you would be like everyone else, and make fun of me.” Adriana looked down. “Why does everybody make fun of you?” Marik asked. Adriana looked up at him with a confused look upon her face. “You of all people should know why.” “Umm, I’m afraid I don’t. Why?” “In sixth grade, when I was walking home, you and your friends took all my school papers. My mother and my teachers were all disappointed in me. How can you not remember being that cruel to someone?” Adriana asked him. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize that you were that little girl that we picked on. Two years ago I was sent to a correctional school. When I came back, I tried to forget everything that had happened before. I still get into fights now and then, but I haven’t teased anyone in a long time. I’m sorry if what I did then has affected you today.” Marik stood up, “I shouldn’t have agreed for help.” Adriana stood up and walked over to Marik. “No, wait….” That was all she could say before a group of people walked by and accidentally pushed her, right into Marik. As their lips met, it felt to both as if a million fireworks were shot into the air. Adriana pulled away first. “I am so sorry.” She quickly moved to grab her stuff, but Marik grabbed her arm. “Don’t be sorry. It wasn’t your fault. It’s my fault for what happened years ago,” he said. “No it’s not. I think we should start over and pretend that we have just met.” Adriana stuck out her hand to Marik. “My name is Adriana. How do you do?” “Marik, it’s nice to meet you.” Adriana motioned for Marik to sit down. “Please sit. Would you like a cup of coffee?” And that is how it all started, she thought to herself, as the music stopped. After the day at the Coffee Café, Marik and Adriana had become a couple. “Now husband and wife,” she said silently to herself, closing her eyes and laying her head down on Mariks shoulder. Never again will I be alone. |
BACK TO YOUR OWN
The War. That is what destroyed my country, as well as my life. My mother, father, brother, and sisters? They are gone, King Berick destroyed them. Outside I can hear the village of Bringdom crying, screaming, that the Royal Family is dead. Nobody realizes that I am left. They think I am gone too, though I am not. I am just hiding, waiting until it is safe once more. My name is Adia Mayona Tavinte, Princess of the Kingdom on Tavinte. I live in the country of Kadien. Kadien is broken into three kingdoms, Larin, Corbis, and Tavinte. When I was ten, an evil magician by the name of Berick overtook Larin’s ruler, becoming the new ruler. He then decided that he wanted more power, and he attacked Corbis. The next five years were terrible for the country of Kadien. Berick has now claimed Tavinte, but I won’t let him have it. I am going to destroy him and return our country to normal. My crying had past days before. With my family gone, I was all that I had. Berick had killed everyone in the palace. I was all alone. Then I heard guards outside. They were shouting. Suddenly someone opened the door to my hideout. I heard someone running to were I was hiding, and then I felt a pain in my side as the person tripped over me. Putting their hand over my mouth the person whispered, “Shh, I won’t hurt you.” The guards could still be heard outside. “Is there a way out of here?” I could tell by the voice that the person was male. I nodded my voice to answer his question. He took his hand of my mouth, but I could feel a knife at my back. “Through the back,” I said, knowing my sanctuary is no more. I knew that I had to get him out of here, because if the guards were to find him, they would find me. Berick would then find out that I was still alive, and he would destroy me. My captor grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the back. Finding the backdoor, he pushed me out into the light. He looked at me as I looked at him. He appeared to be about sixteen, auburn hair, and stood over six feet. Finally I heard his dreadful words, “You’re the princess aren’t you?” I looked around trying to look everywhere but at him. “Well are you the Princess or not?” He questioned again, raising his voice. I could tell that he wouldn’t go away until I said anything. “So what if I am?” I questioned back at him. “If you do anything, I’m going to scream for the guards that I know are after you for a reason.” He chuckled,” And what, blow your cover?” I stiffened. “You were hiding for a reason. My guess is that if the guards find you, then so does Berick. Berick will come after you, am I right?” “How did you know I was hiding from Berick?” I questioned him as a look of fear spread across my face. |
“Easily,” he said. “The rest of the royal family is dead, killed by Berick, that means that your rightful place is on the throne. If Berick finds out that you are still alive and in his way of ruling, he will stop at nothing to destroy you.” Seeing the tears running down my face, he looked around. “Well then, I guess we can’t let that happen, can we? Come on, follow me.”
“And who do you think you are, telling me what to do?” I asked, trying to sound like the higher position I was. He raised an eyebrow at me. “Well I could be the person to save your life. Or, I could just walk away….” He said as he started to back up. “No wait!” I yelled,” I’ll follow you, but why should I trust you?” I had only known this guy for ten minutes yet here he was trying to help me. “How do I know that you’re not going to lead me into a trap? I don’t know anything about you.” He looked away. “The names Jajel. Everything else, I don’t quite know myself.” He sounded so sad as he said that. What had happened to him for him to not know about himself? “But enough about me,” he said sarcastically, “We need to get out of here.” The sounds of the guards were getting closer. “This way.” We ran through a series of back alleys for a while as the voices of the guards diminished. Finally Jajel said, “Okay, were here.” I looked around, but all I saw was a wall. “Jajel,” I said, “this can’t be right, there’s nothing but a wall here.” Jajel looked at me and smiled a malicious smile. He looked back at the wall and knocked on it is a strange pattern. To my amazement, the wall opened up, and there stood Berick. |
I screamed. What else was I supposed to do? The person that wanted me dead was standing right in front of me.
Jajel clamped his hand over my mouth to silence my screaming. As he pulled me into the darkness encased behind the wall, I heard him speak. “Princess Adia, stop screaming!” He half whispered and half yelled at me. I looked at him, attempting my scream to penetrate through his hand. His eyes held a desperate, pleading look to them. Why did he want me to stop? A person that killed my family, who the whole country hated, but feared, was standing in front of me. Was Jajel trying to have me killed? Was meeting me a setup so that Berick would kill me? Thinking of being killed made me scream even more than ever. “Princess, please,” Jajel begged of me. “He is not who you think he is!” Tears made their way down my face as I stopped to respond. “I know exactly who he is!” I screamed at Jajel. I turned to look at the robed figure. “You’re Berick! You killed my family!” I shouted. I could feel more tears coming, but it didn’t matter, Jajel grabbed my arms, attempting to restrain me. I pushed him away and shouted at him. “You traitor! I thought you wanted to help me, not destroy me!” “Quiet child,” the figure said. “I am not who you believe me to be.” I stopped my raving, but I had a fierce look upon my face as I turned towards the voice. “I am the magician Eris.” I tried to hid how surprised I was, but I knew at once that the man saw it. “Ah, I see you have heard of me.” Of course I had heard of Eris. Everyone all over Kadien had heard the stories. Once, long ago a princess loved a magician by the name of Eris. But, because Eris would not love the princess back, she grew furious with everybody and everything. It is said, that she enlisted the help of a great and powerful magician, even more powerful than Eris. Then together, the princess and magician, called upon ancient, forgotten words of power, and destroyed everything that got in their way. With the power growing stronger, Eris recruited everyone with any sort of magic. By combing the people’s powers, the princess was destroyed. Eris disappeared and the magician who had helped the princess was never seen again. But five years ago is presence was detected again as havoc began once more. Berick. I looked at the man, “You can’t be Eris!” I exclaimed. “The magician is dead. Nobody has seen him for a long time.” “True as that may be, that I haven’t been seen, but dead am I not.” He turned to face Jajel. “You have been gone for near a week. What have you been doing?” “I am sorry. I lost my ring when I was scavenging the village, so I want to look for it. I finally found it today. A merchant was selling it. When I took it, he saw, and many guards started chasing after me. So, I ran into one of the abandoned houses near the palace and almost fell flat on my face because of this girl,” said Jajel as he looked at me. “Hey it’s not my fault the guards were chasing you, and you were the one who tripped over me. Besides, what’s so important about some ring?” I saw that my words had struck him like a knife. Jajel looked away. “My ring,” he said, “is all that I have. It was the only thing besides clothes that I had with me when Eris found me.” He turned back to face me. “It is all that I have.” With those words said, he showed me the ring. As soon as I saw the ring, I grabbed Jajel’s hand to view it more closely. “Do you have any idea what the symbols on this ring means?” I asked Jajel. He gave me a confused look. “I’ve never actually thought about it. Why?” I starred at him like he was crazy. “The symbols on this ring are written in the Old Language. You’re lucky I happen to have been taught the language. It says ‘The King of Larin will always rule.’ It means, that you are the Kingdom of Larin’s heir.” Adia thought for a moment. “You said you were found five years ago. That is when Berick attacked Larin.” Jajel backed up, shocked at what he had just heard. “What?” he asked. “No. There is no possible way that I can be a king. I….” “Ahem,” said Eris. “The Princess is right. You are the legitimate son of the fallen King of Larin (may he rest in peace).” He turned around and walked towards the darkness of the hide out. “Follow me to the back room,” he said as the darkness devoured him. Jajel and I followed behind Eris. As we walked, I remembered something from when I was little. When I was five years old, my mother decided to me down to the beach. She said that she was going to take me to a special spot. A spot that nobody except she knew was there. We couldn’t get to the extraordinary spot the way everyone else did. To get there, we had to travel down a series of tunnels underground. As we neared the end of the tunnel, I saw the most beautiful place I had ever been to. The ocean was a beautiful blue color, and cliffs that surrounded it closed off the beach to others. Then, it was my most treasured memories of my time as a child. A I got older, I spent more and more time there. I went there when I wanted to be alone. Now, all those times will forever be memories. With Berick in control, I will never be able to call the palace home again, nor see my special spot. That beach was beautiful, but as I stepped into the room, my opinion of beauty changed. Everything in this room shouted out royalty. |
