This is the beginning of a short story I'm working on...still trying to decide where to go from here.
Let me know what you think!

Evan walked down the sandy moonlit shore, eyes closed, following what he contemplated to be instinct, or perhaps just some wild crazy emotion. The faint smell of rain painted in his mind a picture of the stormy green sky at daybreak.

He walked as the world spread out in front of him from the corners of his imagination; the pale green sky, the rain, the ocean spread wide like a crystal blue blanket, the water stained sand...mile after mile of pure white sand...and at the end of it all, at the end of this world in his mind, his world, there she stood, bare foot, toes curling into the sand. His goddess, his one and only love. She always stood there waiting. Waiting for him at the edge of forever.

He walked forward through the night, blind and alone.

Blue. Her eyes were blue. Blue as the ocean, clear as the skies of his childhood. He could scarcely measure their depths. He imagined looking into them was like drowning slowly, painlessly, watching the rest of the world fall away. In his thoughts he begged her to turn and look at him, to take away the pain of life.

But she never turned around. Never once saw him. Though surely she knew he'd come. Surely she was waiting for him and him alone, there at the edge of nothing. All he had to do was keep walking.

Suddenly, as he'd done a dozen times before, he began to doubt his love. Maybe she was waiting for someone else. Maybe he was not worthy of such a creature's attention. Maybe she'd break his heart, destroy every shred of his being, and smile for his pain. He slowed to a stop only a few feet away.

He opened his eyes and wiped that world from his mind. Yet again, he was miles from anywhere. Yet again, it was dark and he was alone. He closed his eyes again and tried to call her back to him, but it was too late, the vision was already gone.

"Fuck." He grumbled and kicked at the sand. The wind blew the tiny grains backward into his face. "Fuck." He said louder. In the distance a tiny voice mocked him. He turned in it's direction. "Who's there?"
"Bad dream?"

His eyes adjusted to the darkness and fixed upon a pale white figure lying in the sand. He stepped closer and realized that the figure was female. Even in this lack of light, he felt there was something rough and unsettling about her.
Her long dark hair was matted to her face. Her knee lenght little white dress clung to every curve of her body. She'd been lying there for awhile, letting the waves wash over her, tempting the ocean to swallow her alive.
"Maybe it's not over." He grunted at her, hoping to walk off before his curiosity drew him any closer.
