September Louise White was flopped out on to the couch, a permanent position for her, flicking though the music channels aimlessly waiting for the door-bell to ring. Trying her best to ignore her brothers wine of ‘put that on’ or ‘turn it off’ as she paused on the channels. The annoying nine year old sat on the floor, staring up at the TV. When ever there was a song he like a cry would come out of ‘They Rule!’ even if it was the only song he knew. September suppressed a sigh as , once again, the remote control was robbed off her and the TV was back to typical Cartoon Network. She smiled slightly, knowing that Gerard, one of her best friends in life, had worked his butt of to get his ‘Umbrella Academy’ cartoon into this channel. They had denied him, They obviously have no taste. She thought, taking sides with her friend. There was a soft knock at the door, the 4 other knocks.
“Coming!” She yelled, knowing full well that it would be the lads. Taking her time, September wandered to there door, as the four separate sets on knocks continued. Thrusting open the door, she raised an eyebrow, most of the guys with there fists raised to knock. “People!” She said, still grinning. If you don’t mind trying to knock on me!” The guys smiled to her, lowering their hands slowly. “Well, you may as well come in.” She muttered, flinging back the door, wincing slightly as it bashed against the newly painted wall.
“Ouch.” Gerard said, “That’s gonna dint.” He grinned, walking up to her room Frank, Ray and Bob in tow. Mikey was still stood on the doorstep, smiling slightly. “Hey Septemberr.” He said, ruffling her hair.
Gosh! He’s tall. She thought, smiling back. Mikey slowly walked in the house and together, armed with five energy drinks, walked up to her room. The guys were sprawled around , Gerard lounged on her love seat couch at the end of her bed, legs dangling off the end and Bob and Dylan sat on her beanie bags in the corner pouring over a ‘Kerrang!’ magazine. September grinned. “Catch!” She said to each off them before tossing them a can which every-one but Ray caught, as it landed in front of him. She chuckled, sitting on the bed. “So. Mikey, how’s your love life going?” Of course, it was Ray who asked, the Man with the plan.
“Oh. Eh, Great. Me and Marla are great thanks Ray.” Mikey said, blushing a light shade of pink.
“Wha--?” September said, biting her lip. “Mikey has a girl friend? Very Nice Mikey.” She hid her jealousy well, for all they know, she liked none of them. That part was true. She was just protective over them , not wanting any of them to get hurt. Gerard raised an eyebrow, but went back to his low singing, making the people in the room laugh with him.
“Gerard… What in the world are you singing?” September asked, frowning as the lads shot her stupid, shocked glances.
“Skylines And Turnstiles M’dear. Our First song.” He murmured, watching her silently. “Surprised you didn’t know that.”
“Oh yeah.” She murmured, still frowning trying to think of the song.
“You were there when I wrote it, September.” Gerard prodded gently. The young girl who sat before them had fear in her eyes. She had dreamt of that event may times over, part of the vivid nightmare that was a part of life she always had to remember, a memory that always haunted her.
“Well Done Gee.” Mikey muttered, his voice venomous. Little has she realised, but tears had start to fall down her cheeks. Mikey was soon by her side, his arms around her protectively, attempting to soothe her and stop her figure from shaking. “September..” He said softly, stroking her hair in his reassuring way. “Gee got over it. But why not you , love? Why not our little friend here?”
She shook her head, he would never understand her, he never would understand why it disturbed her so much.
An hour later, they were in Septembers basement, messing around with the instruments which live down there. “Come on and sing with me.” Gerard said, holding out his hand. She took it without thinking, allowing him to help pull herself up. Together, Gerard and September, began a duet which they had written together. A duet that was soft and gentle, September’s voice seeming to blend more with Gerard and Mikey did the backings. The song soon finished, and September returned to her place on the hard cold floor. “Helena next!” Gerard nearly yelled, causing September to look up with large eyes full of worry. Mikey smiled, putting the guitar down gently deciding he wasn’t needed to play this song. He sat on the floor nest to the six-teen year old girl he and the lads had watched change since a ten year old. She sat there, watching the set before her, her large green eyes full of curiosity. Just as the song got started, there was a flicker in the light and the cut off the guitar before starting again, before plunging into total darkness as September’s father accidentally unplugged the basement electricity plug to vacuum the house. As soon as the darkness was on the room, September screamed slightly, closing her eyes tightly and gripping hold of Mikey. “Drama Queen.” Frank muttered, walking up the steps to the door, his steps sounding like gun shots, only making September cling onto Mikey tighter. Soon enough there was a soft hint of light trailing though the basement. “Thank-you Frank” She whispered, standing up after pulling her grip free of Mikey. She looked panicked, that’s what these moments did to her.
“Kids!” Septembers mother called from the top of the stairs standing in the door way. “Lunch!” With a murmur, the other four lads of the band had rushed upstairs onto the ground floor and was seated around the table. September and Mikey glanced at each other, burst out laughing and walked slowly into the Dining room. They sat with September at the right end of the table and Gerard sitting at the bottom left end. When they was younger, that’s what they used to do. Play kings and queens. The guys took turn in being the King, and September was always the king. It used to make her laugh the way they has obeyed her every wish , and followed her round like a lost puppy. “So, Septy. Sixth form now?” Ray asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah. Sixth form. Can’t wait.” She said sarcastically. “More responsibility I guess.” She really was excited about sixth form but she didn’t dare to let the lads know that much about her school life.
“What are you taking?” He asked her “Anything-”
Ryan was rudely cut off by Gerard. “Bet she’s taking art!” He exclaimed, watching her nod slowly.
“Don’t get attached to red paint.” Mikey advised her, winking sarcastically. September slowly grinned, looking upon Mikey’s kind face.
“Eh, god knows what she’ll do. Actually he probably won’t. What you need to fear is when she’s in clubs.” Gerard says, winking at Mikey. She frowned, glancing at them both. “Come again?”
She really has no idea. No idea how much Mikey worries for her when she goes to concerts alone or gets in a taxi drunk on the way back from a club. She has completely no idea on how he can’t sleep when she’s out alone. Gerard though, before saying “Nothing. Nothing at all. It doesn’t matter.” He said quickly, before smiling to September to comfort her.
September glanced down at her food, now no longer hungry. She stood walking to the kitchen and placing her left over food in the bin and her plate in the sink. “Have you guys done?”
“Yupp.”
“Sure thing. I could eat more though.”
“Yeah.”
“I guess so.”
“Mhm.”
With a roll of her eyes, she picked up their plates, scarping the left over food into the bin and putting the plates in the sink as she slowly began to wash the pots.
She heard the boys whispering behind her, she sighed gently, before shaking her head dismissively. “Stupid Boys.” She muttered quietly. The boys stretched out in the living room, five pairs of eyes staring at the TV. After cleaning, September walked into the lounge, flopping onto the hard wooden floor on her belly, and staring at the screen. “Family Guy?” She questioned, raising an eyebrow.
“It was Bob’s pick.” Gerard explained quietly, before turning back to the TV.
“Oh right. Anyway, I’m off now.” As Bob shot her a questioning look, September sighed. “Piano.” With that, September stood, spun on her heals and stomped out the room. Once upstairs, the twinkling music could be heard from downstairs, as September began to play , her figures pressing on the light ivory keys.
After a while, the boys entered to room quietly. “Hey September Darling.” Gerard entered the room, stopping her play.
“Hi Gee.” She turned getting off the stool. “Lets..” She paused in thought, knowing full well that they had come to drag her away from her darling piano. “Lets get your beds ready.” With that she sighed, walking to the spare room. “Me and Ray!” Exclaimed Bob, Ray and Frankie already dumping there rucksacks on the bed. With a roll of her eyes, September turned, walking into her room before grabbing the blow up bed. “Gee and Mikey. My Bed. I guess I’m on the air bed.” She sighed, making up her own bed quickly. Gee and Mikey flopped onto her bed, ignoring the fact that it wasn’t yet made.
