A journal entry in Haruhi's diary venting out her steam about the winter season and the trouble it causes for her. Since this is her first year, it is even more difficult on her considering her only source of income for the season is fishing and mining; the latter task sucks away her energy quickly and she is running out of herbs to replenish her energy. To make matters worse, Van only visits on days that end with 3 and 8, and the energy potions are expensive to boot. And since it snows most every day, Skye hardly ever comes, so Haruhi can't give him as many presents and constantly fears for their relationship. Pretty tough? Heck yeah.

Winter, Day X, Year Y
Dear Diary,
I shall get to my point quickly. I. Hate. Winter!! Why, oh why is this the only season when I can't grow any stinking crops? I mean, you can plant all sorts of yummy plants in oven-hot summer, and they still turn out fine! So what's wrong with winter? I knew a farmer who planted potatoes and carrots EVERY SINGLE WINTER, so why can't I?! But then again, not everyone has a barn with cows, sheep, horses. And I certainly don't have a chicken coop, either! Come on, lighten up on the newbies, will you? At least have those essentials built in when I move here! So what if it was abandoned and rotting when I first got it? At least do me a favor and make it easy on me, please.
Also, I'll add that my only sources of income during the winter come from fishing and mining. I could sell those white herbs I find on the ground, but I need those. Besides, it's not like they appear everywhere, unlike the other seasons. Anyway. Do you have any idea how hard it is to mine during the winter with very little supplies to mantain your stamina? I mean, seriously. Van only comes on days that end in three or eight (how stupid can you get?), and his items' prices are outrageous! Surely you would sell MEDICINE, something everyone needs, for the lowest price possible! And he is absolutely ridiculous when it comes to buying. I swear, he's always staring down the few precious herbs I have left. He didn't seem to happy to get the poisoness ones, though *snicker*. Oh yeah, did I mention I have to give herbs to Daryl and the Witch Princess every day to maintain a solid relationship with them? Why couldn't they like something easier to get? Like weeds? Or those logs and stone I hack up every day in my fields? That would make it so much easier, thank you very much.
You know what would make my life even easier? Having a golden lumber shed for all of my materials! They are weighing my backpack down! Since I couldn't afford warehouses of the finest quality, I had to settle for wood. Ever hear the nursery rhyme about the three little pigs? Well, I'm the pig with the house made of sticks. I'm so nervous because my lumber shed looks like it's about the collapse, so I keep all of my lumber AND stone in my rucksack. If only things weren't so expensive! It must be the shipping and handling costs...They say they'll pay it for you, but they're really lying. It's ALL included in the final cost...They don't pay a cent!
Although, I probably would pay to have Skye come down to Forget-Me-Not Valley on snowy days. As you fangirls probably know, Skye will only come down when it's not snowing, sleeting, or whatever you wanna call it. Well guess what? It's been snowing almost non-stop, so Skye doesn't come! I'm very worried. Recently, I got his heart to the "purple" level, but his appearances are very scarce with all this snow falling from the sky. For the first time, I wish there was not as much jewelry in my rucksack (I could give it to Leia, my bff jill, but there wouldn't be any left for Skye now would there?). On the bright side, I'm getting along well with Marlin, but still! I'm so worried that my sought-after relationship with Skye will be ruined, ruined!!
Well, days seem to be shorter in winter, but they drag on for me as I await the end of this perilous season to end. On the bright side, however, I get to have more free time socializing with friends, rather than pulling weeds. The scenery is very lovely, and the background music sounds very good. Plus, it's great that not everyone loves crops, because you can buy a lot of stuff like wine, grape juice, or chocolate off of the shopping hotline. I will be awaiting the arrival of the season of hope: Spring. Until then, dear diary, au revoir*.
~Haruhi, first year farmer
~~~~~~
In any case, Haruhi sounds kind of angsty and ranty in this diary entry, right? But then again, winter is a pretty hard season. It's no piece of cake, I'll give you that. Especially since the game's difficultly level is slightly higher compared to it's ancestor games. Having to give expensive gifts every day, working hard to perform tasks that will save the Harvest Goddess, learning the rules of littering the hard way, it's not that easy! But it's still fun, and Haruhi knows that. Being a first year farmer, she knows that she will have a difficult time. But I wanted to make this journal entry venting my frustrations and to have some laughs reading it when Haruhi becomes a wealthy and successful--and no longer single--farmer girl. Yuup, that'll be the day~
*by the way, "au revoir" means something along the lines of "goodbye" in French. Thought I'd through that in there :3
