Moku Wai'ona
Chapter 1
Palekaiko Moku

Walking calmly along the shore line was a young island dweller of seventeen. The gentle breeze grazed her lovingly on the face as the waves met her bare feet on the wet sand.

“Iraja, Titan of our winds. Dimitar, Protector of our earth. Kahewai, Guardian of our waters. Endellion, Controller of our sun and flames. And Akari, Goddess of our light. Five islands, each named after the spirits that created them. All live in harmony with each other, as the friendship of their respectful creators.

Let it be known, to all of those mortals living upon these islands, that our spirits shall rise again among your own, each named as they be. Our world shall be in safety, so long as they find and stay together, and remain in peace with one another. So know they will forever be your saviors through the darkness, no matter what, for if balance is brought to an end, the world shall turn to chaos.

So is the prophecy, of the Palekaiko Moku.” She recited her world’s life long story. Looking out at the sunset, her mysteriously golden eyes shimmered with the lights reflection.

“Come on ‘Uhane or you’re going to be late. You know how she gets when we’re late. And Kahewai even made dinner for us!” It had been an hour she sat there, just looking at that horizon that the black haired girl finally snapped out of her trance. “Don’t tell me you’re still going over that stupid prophecy, It’s not like anything bad can happen here. That’s why it’s called Palekaiko baby. Paradise!” One of the five best friends and group members ran along to the troubled ‘Uhane.
“Now get your lazy butt out of the sand and into our Endellion island home before I kick it there myself.” The boy couldn’t help but smile as his younger member stepped up to him and gave him a playful punch on his well tanned shoulder with her gloved hand.

“Like you’d even think about overthrowing this leader. I could easily kick your butt before you even guessed what happened, Iraja.” And the now smirking girl took the lead and headed off to one of the several homes she shared with this boy and three others.

“You won’t be saying that for long little ‘Uhane. Soon enough, our little group will have a new leader, master of the Iraja Moku, Iraja himself.” He muttered to her, slightly irritated, but all knew he meant well.

“Sora!” Three teens turned to see someone they weren’t quite expecting to see, as nice of a surprise as it was though. The raspy voice that spoke had come from the duck in blue running across the warm white sand in the night as the walking dog had followed closely behind him.

“Hey guys.” Sora, the young hero greeted happily to his old friends and then got tackled in a hug.

“Welcome back.” Kairi, the red haired girl of the original keyblade wielders smiled at the three rolling around in the sand.

The silver haired wonder stayed quiet, letting the four have their happy moments before he decided to step in. “What are you doing here?” He seemed quite serious. He knew by the staff Donald Duck had attached to his back, and the shield held by Goofy Goof, that something wasn’t right again.

“Gawrsh Riku. Well, we don’t really know why.” Goofy replied with all true honesty.

“The King requested to see all three of you at the palace A-S-A-P. We came here to pick you up.” Donald explained as much as he knew to them.

“Kahewai, you really outdid yourself little brother!” The second youngest of the group complimented her younger brother. Endellion smiled up at him from her chair patting her belly. “I swear, you get better and better every day. You’ll make someone a good wife one day.”She enjoyed teasing Kahewai about what others would call an issue. To ‘Uhane though, she saw it as truth.

Kahewai couldn’t help but flush red at her compliments and teasers, as many a times as he had heard them.

“Aw, leave our baby alone Endellion. The boy will find someone soon enough.” Iraja was also supportive of the young ginge’s lifestyle choice, even if he was one of the ones who used to pick on him.

The older red head glared back at the black haired boy in annoyance with her usual deep dark red eyes. “How I treat my baby brother is my business, not yours Ja-Ja!” She stuck her tongue out at him and brought down an eyelid. Almost clear blue eyes twitching in anger, Iraja stared at the girl, trying to keep his voice down as not to startle anyone. “I told you never to call me by that name!”

“Ja-Ja, what else can I call you? You haven’t earned your spot to be called by your real name. So I suppose that actually makes you the baby of our group, no?” Endellion was the fun loving type, which is what often got her into trouble, though what she said was true until ‘Uhane promotes him. That’s what upset the boy the most.

“Shut your faces both of you!” The final member of the group spoke. Dimitar, usually the level headed one, look before you leap type, shouted as to get their attention.

“He speaks!” Endellion exclaims as she hid under the table and everyone there just stared at her oddly. ‘Uhane couldn’t help but giggle at the sixteen-year-olds antics. It would be a rare sight when these five wouldn’t have an interesting time. Kahewai and ‘Uhane often just sit back and watch the amusing things their friends did and eventually break it up if things ever got too far.

“’Wai, need any help with the dishes?” ‘Uhane offered grabbing the plates in front of the feuding boys and girl.

“Oh, you don’t have to Akari.” He replied, his curly ginger and blue streaked hair falling just above his eyes as he got up. Insisting that she would, ‘Uhane took his plate as well and walked over to the kitchen sink as Kahewai followed the person he looked up to the most.

“Yeah well you’re a sexist pig who can’t decide whether or not to overthrow our chief in battle. I bet ya Akari could easily beat your butt with one hand tied behind her back.” Endellion went too far.

“Endellion, wash your mouth and shut it. Iraja, outside and cool down now!” Shouted the listening ‘Uhane. She only allowed one person to call her by her first name and it was Kahewai. She also knew better than to let this get any further or else Endellion would have ended up on the floor, with a bruise slowly forming on her face… again.

Knowing what she meant, the two instantly sat down with a glare towards each other, crossing arms as if in a contest. Even though they didn’t notice it, they were a lot alike, and would deny it whenever told.

“Thank you ‘Uhane.” Dimitar said from behind the book he had been reading this whole time. Sometimes it would seem as if that was all he ever did.

“Anytime Dimi!”

“How could he send you to get us without telling you the slightest detail? Isn’t it your jobs to know what’s going on with him?” Kairi questioned as the five entered the Gummi Ship.

“I told you, we don’t know!” Donald was tired and crankier than usual. Getting asked a million questions really ruffled his feathers.

“The king just said that he needed to see you guys in person and sent us away.” Goofy tried his best to help out.

Riku remained silent. He wasn’t as closely knit to them as Sora and Kairi were, and thought it better to let them talk as they see fit. Even if it has been a couple years since him and Sora had finally arrived home on Destiny Island, he still felt a little out of place.

Maybe the darkness inside him could never be gone and let him be the person he wished to be. Perhaps the chains were still held strongly in this boy’s heart. So strong, he could never escape, as if it could plan this on its own. Or maybe…

“Time for bed, all!” ‘Uhane called from the roof of the house to the three outside in the yard playing with a stray dog, and one sitting on the porch, reading his book in silence. “It’s Monday tomorrow and everyone except Endellion needs to be up an hour early.” It was a weekly routine for the teens. Even through the summer.

Everyone went inside, some still ecstatic from the day that’s gone by and the days to come. Others tired and walking calmly. But one stayed, upon her spot on the roof, watching the stars above her in such an interest that others may not have understood. She felt at peace every time she could just look up and smile to herself with the lights she saw up there. You could say that in a way, this was her sanctuary.

Now this girl rarely slept for she always had this energy when the sun would rise. She felt it throughout the day, and most of the night, as if the heavens smiled upon her and granted her the time she sought to do more than what most people would. The time to think out everything she had, and more onto what she wanted and wished for.

“Akari ‘Uhane Reita Sen Ao, you better get down here right now and in bed!” Iraja’s voice rang out from the second floor window.

‘I need a shorter name…’ ‘Uhane thought with a dull look in her eyes. She never liked being called by her first name all that much. Nor her full name. Just her first middle worked. “Coming!” She said back. Walking to the edge of the roof, the young girl hung upside-down by her legs to reach the top of her third floor window and swing in, right onto her bed.

More over an attic, but she liked it up there. She had the most perfect view of the house to look up into the sky, just like in the four others they stayed at. “And tomorrow, we stay on Akari Moku…” She smiled happily at the thought of staying on her home island again. It was the sunniest of them all.

“…leave….” ‘Why?’

“…for you…” ‘What is?’

“…keep going…” ‘Where are we heading?’

“…remember… darkness…”

‘The darkness…’

Waking up with a jolt as the sun rose, ‘Uhane looked around to see she was alone as usual in her room. Looking out her window to the rising sun, her energy was regained but her thoughts never lifted.

“The Darkness?” She whispered to herself, wishing to find the answers she had hoped with no response as before…
