For nearly a year I've had this poem in my scrapbook of poetry called "The Queen of Hearts" which I can't post here. It has nothing to do with Wonderland, merely a queen with the same title, the hearts referring to romance (essentially "The Queen of Romance"). I've been mumbling it over in my head to get started on another 25-page epic, for I had written one before just for the sake of writing one. The only problem is that every decent piece of literature relating to "Through the Looking Glass" is standing in my way.
My story is based off some recent stalker issues and waging war. My boyfriend refers to the whole thing as a chess game, labeling some humans we know as "pawns," "rooks," "bishops" or whatever he likes and it seems to help him plan out his next idea. This is what I wanted to do, I wanted the Queen of Hearts to wage war on a chessboard against the King of Clubs. If you understood what I said and you have read different bits of literature involving Alice in Wonderland, you can see my problem, especially now. In the preview for the new Alice in Wonderland movie, for a second I saw the White queen and the Red queen face-to-face on a chessboard. Even without that, my sister gave me an old illustration book of "Through the Looking Glass" and wonderland, when seen from above, was laid out like a chessboard. If I write this poem, I fear like no matter what I say in comments will be shunned and everyone will say this is a rip-off epic. I really want to write this, however. I really want to get this epic off my chest or it will bug me into infinity. One thing I will not do is change the chessboard idea because it actually has a significance to me and it is a great inspiration. I really don't want to wait either seeing as how this game of chess is nearly over and this is my peak of inspiration. When the chessgame ends, I lose interest.

What do you all suggest I do? Should I write it the way it is or should I abandon all hope? How many of you would actually take my writing seriously as a piece of random literature and not as any "Wonderland" or "Looking Glass" knockoff?

I don't think anyone who takes poetry seriously would consider that a 'knock-off' unless it literally is. Your poem is not. You've even explained how it's deeply connected to your personal experiences, and these are the best conditions to write creative poetry.

I think the title and the chessboard ideas are great, and while it does allude to Beyond the Looking Glass, it's by no means a 'knock off' because it's a completely different situation based on what you had described. You should write for the sake of what you want to write, and don't let what others might think of it hold you back.

I say go ahead. Some people may think as the connection as intriguing and want to hear more about what you are saying.. besides that it will help you feel like you have taken it off of your chest. (: I mean ya some people may try to start a fight or argument about it if they're feeling especially trollish but I still think it'd be better to write it anyways. And have fun with it, because you can make it whatever you want it to be ^_^
