Nothing Special [100 Drabbles]

Most of these will involve my own characters to work on their personalities and history, but sometimes I like to write about others to get out of my characters skins.

You may critique me if you'd like, however as I just start out, I probably won't listen too much to what you have to say. I'll take any advice I can get, but I know I'm going to suck in the beginning. Just saying. x3

My goal is to write each one with less than 500 words, and to successfully end the story with you wanting to read more of it, but not completely cut it off.

EDIT: I have a NEW goal! Finish all 100 by the end of June.

Completed: 28/100

038. Tears
Characters: Riley and Kira
Word Count: 165

"Don't look at it Kiruh!" He managed to call out her name, just barely. Riley wrapped his arms around his sister, holding her tightly against his chest.

Kira shut her eyes tightly, tears trying to seep through the cracks. Her body was trembling all over, a massive shiver. Riley stepped back slowly, dragging her with him. "We need tah go, luv. It's alright, it's fine. Forget what you saw."

She pulled away from him, a stream of tears busting out like never before. He stood still without a reaction.

"Look at 'em Riley! Look at what they did!" She shouted at the top of her lungs. The quiet night carried her voice throughout the plains, echo after echo repeating her words.

"I'm sorry, luv... I am..." Riley cried, reaching for her again. "But we must go, or they're goin to get us next."

She accepted his logic, and they walked away from the blood that covered the ground. The blood of their only true friend.

098. Song
Characters: Riley and Kira
Word Count: 221

"Here sitting on this mantle... you gently kiss my ear... a sweet beautiful mel-oh-dee, some times I often fear..."

Kira's voice filled the air as she sang her song. The smoke from their camp fire was rising up into the sky, trees towering over it. They were camping at a small clearing in the forest.

Riley came back skipping, the bucket in one hand and a dead fish in the other. "I thought you might want a bite to eat, so I grabbed us this fish." He nodded with his words, then held out the fish. It had two small puncture wounds in it's side. Riley obviously transformed into a cat to catch this fish. He displayed it proudly, then stuck it on a stick to begin roasting it.

"I heard you singing, luv." He smiled softly, pouring his sister a bowl of water. "Where did you learn that song though? I've never heard it in my life..."

She covered her mouth with one hand, blushing from the thought of someone else hearing her sing. "I... well I made it up."

"Oh really?" He chuckled. "Well then, you'll have to sing it for me sometime."

She shook her head in disagreement, and drank her water. "Not until you catch me a hundred fish."

"Haha," Riley began laughing, "I'll take your offer."

034. Memory
Characters: Elrodien
Word Count: 141

I remember as if it was yesterday, as if it had only just happened. His sweet lips, his eyes that I never was to look into. Something about that man had captured me from the very beginning. I wasn't one to talk to strangers, or even hunt them down, but I went after him. He was different.

Then it happened, he was taken from me. That curse which was put on his soul, sucked his life away. Left me here to take care of Bree myself. Every night I dream of the day he'll come down from the heavens, the day his son who's eyes are as cold as his, will get to call him Papa for the first time. VI, why did you leave me all of those nights ago?

It's been almost 5 years, but it feels like an eternity.

023. Stalk
Characters: Kira
Word Count: 129

She crouched behind the tall grass, hidden from her prey. A small little rodent, most likely a jumping rat, crawled a distance away from her. She watched it, almost teasingly, as it searched the ground for crumbs she had earlier dropped. This trap had worked time after time, but the rodents never grew any smarter.

The mouse accepted the gift, and after eating his last crumb, Kira made her move. Quickly she pounced from the grass, swiftly and almost silent, her stealth not yet compromised. The mouse didn't have time to run, but he tried to anyways. Kira swiped him up with her beige paw, then knocked him unconscious. With a swift crunch, the little rodent's life was over, and he was just another meal for this hungry cat.

031. Sister
Characters: Riley and Kira
Word Count: 192

Crickets and other insects around the swamp chirped, as Kira laid resting on a pile of leaves. She was in her more alert cat form, finally getting some sleep after the long day. Riley sat on a look out in front of her, making sure nothing was coming. He wasn't always the most mature of the two, but when he had to play big brother, he did a damn good job of it.

He heard something moving in the grass ahead of him, and he silently waited, scanning the area with his eyes for any type of movement. There it was. Riley bounced up, lifting himself off the ground, running up towards it. He pounced on the large python, grabbing a hold if it's neck with his mouth so that it couldn't bite. He ripped through it with his teeth, tearing it's scaled skin. After he make sure it was dead, he ran back to Kira to see if she was still sleeping.

Kira's eyes were shut tight, her chest moving in and out slowly.

I love you little sis... Riley had a large smile on his face as he admired her.

050. Ship.
Characters: Riley and Kira
Word Count: 187

"Riley, wake up! It's almost time tah go!" Kira tugged at his sleeve, trying to get him to budge from the bed.

"Mmm..." His mouth stretched open into a yawn. "Come on Ki, this is dah first time I've gotten tah sleep in a bed all month. You know what it means to me luv." He turned over, away from her. This made Kira rather upset.

"Either ya get up, or we miss the trip! We've been planning on it!" She pouted at him. That was rare for even Kira, but she knew it would get him to his senses.

"Oi! I 'got all about that. Let's go then!" He slipped on his jacket and they ran out the door.

When they got to the ship, Kira was amazed. It was larger than she had imagined. They turned in their tickets, which were stolen, and slipped onto the ship without a problem. Before long it sat to sail, Kira and Riley standing on the deck waving goodbye to everyone down below. For once it almost felt like they had people to say goodbye to. Just this once.

080. Mask
Character: Ghost from MW2
Word Count: 152

His eyes were the only thing you could see, everything else hidden under his clothing. A skull was painted onto his black mask with a thick white paint. He lifted a pair of sunglasses from the cracked table and slid them back on, then stood up, walking out the door.

He was waiting for someone, his rendezvous point being the deli across from the hotel, now being used to sell drugs.

I don't like this... this quietness. His voice kept a British accent, even in his head.

"I've been waitin three bloody hours four him." He spoke into his headset. "Wot's he do'in up there?"

A voice spoke up to him, "Ghost, we've got a location for him. He's headed your way."

"Aboat bloody time!" He switched his headset onto mute, the walked over to greet the man he was waiting for. Tonight was going to be a long night.

075. Crossroad
Characters: Riley and Kira
Word Count: 195

It felt as if the whole world had stopped completely, her throbbing heart the only sound she could hear. Where's he at, did he get lost? What if somethin' happened to em? Oh stop it, you con't keep wurryin yurself.

It had started raining soon after, and she had nothing except the tree towering over her to keep her dry. Why did he want ta meet me here anyways? This is such an idiotic place. Bandits wurk aroun the crossroads all the time.

Her heart almost dropped when the though of Riley being hurt by bandits popped up into her head. No, NO! That will not happen. It cannot.

Out of the darkness, a figure came slowly staggering towards the tree, the only landmark for miles around the crossroads that went five ways. Kira stood up, blinking twice to make sure the rain and darkness wasn't playing a mind game, and then she ran over to her twin.

"Riley! Are you alright?" She looked at his broken body, a small blood trail left behind him.

Riley simply smiled at her, the pain obviously seeping through his saddened eyes. "I'm fine, luv. Let's get some rest."

074. Desire
Character: Elrodien
Word Count: 185

His eyes were like a burning fire, his raven black hair long and sleek. What first drew me to him however, was neither of those things. What I was truly interested in was he was doing at a tavern like this, in the middle of the night.

I sat outside in the cold air, fiddling with my arrows as I usually did when I was utterly bored. It was about then that my eye caught him walking down the dirt path, heading towards the lake. Little did I know he'd have a camp set up, a place to stay for the night.

What's a man like that doing headed towards the woods? I questioned, deciding it best if I checked to make sure he wasn't doing anything unmoral.

My desires grew more and more before the night was even over, and I began to fall into what I would call love with the man. His cold words somehow warmed my heart, and I felt the need to help him. My desires did me not wrong, but good. For once in my life, I became complete.

057. Alone
Word Count: 100
Note:
This one is a little bit different from my last ones. It doesn't involve any actual characters, just characters made up specifically for the story. I may be doing more like this, as I sometimes have trouble fitting my characters into these situations, or I feel like I've already covered it in a different drabble. These will most likely be shorter as well.

February 29th, that was the day it had happened. I often wonder, if there wasn't a 29th in this year, if they day was to be gone from the calender, would it had happened? Would they be gone?

Everyone in my life is extinct now, my whole family lost to the accident. I have no one to speak to, no friends, no loved ones. I replay the scene over and over in my head, wondering what I could have done to fix it. I can't live a life like this. I can't go on.

I'd rather die than be alone.

051. Voices
Character: Tomas
Word Count: 157

"Stop it! Just stop please!" His voice cut through the silent night like a warm jagged knife, leaving a deadly trail of echoes. "I don't know what you want from me!" Tomas' hands collapsed over his ears as he pleaded for help, mercy, anything to make the madness end.

"You'll give me her heart, you will dear boy, give me her heart or I'll take your's," The voice snickered at him in a playful, yet evil tone.

"No, I don't want to. I- I don't want to hurt Julia!" Steaming tears trailed down Tomas' mud caked face, leaving his icy blue eyes still watering. "P-please..."

"Do IT!" A sharp pain shot through Tomas' chest as the knife twisted in teasingly, not enough to finish him off.

"Alright... alright... I- I'll do it. Please stop! Leave me alone!" Tomas slid down against the cold cave walls, a knife drenched with his own blood held tightly in his hand.

Quixotic 01-02-2010 10:34 AM

044. Mirror
Character: Tomas/Johnathan
Word Count: 209

He hated mirrors. They didn't lie to you, they told you exactly what you didn't want to know. He covered all of the mirrors in his home after the last incident. Johnathan wasn't happy about that, then again Johnathan was rarely excited about anything Tomas had done unless he specifically ordered him to.

Their relationship was in no way healthy. Johnathan rarely showed up, and when he did, it was always uninvited. Recently it had been whenever Tomas had accidentally looked into one of those mirrors. Johnathan looked a lot like Tomas, like they could be brothers, but his voice was much different, and their personalities were nothing alike.

Johnathan was strong, loud, demanding. He would command Tomas to do whatever he desired, and Tomas always caved in, no matter what. That's what kept Johnathan coming back for me.

This time it was worse. Worse than anything Tomas had ever done for him.

"Clean up this mess." Johnathan demanded. "Before they find you."

"They'll find you too!" Tomas cried to him, soaking the blood up with the towels he found in the bath.

"No they won't Tomas. I'll hide. They'll never find me." His voice was twisted. "All they'll find is you, this broken mirror, and your dead lover."

001. Sunlight
Character: Vivid
Word Count: 145

People look at me and wonder why I'm so pale. They think I must be a freak, an abomination. They're right. Every day I get names thrown at me. "Hey goth kid", or "Where's your fangs vampy?" I'm tired of the name calling, the insults.

My therapist tells me there must be a memory deep in the back of my head, locked away, cooking up this phobia and serving it to me in huge helpings. She doesn't even know the beginning of my problem. Mother has to pay her extra to see me at night, instead of her daily morning routines.

I grow cold and lonely, sitting in my room all day when I cannot sleep, the windows covered with thick heavy paper to keep the sunlight from reaching my skin. I wouldn't dare let it touch me. Why am I so scared of it?

011. Sleep
Character: Tomas
Word Count: 191

His eyes felt heavy, like a box full of books. He rubbed his bloodshot eyes to keep them open. It was like an alarm had been going off in his head for days.

He poured a glass of water down the drain and reached for the broken cabinet door. A bottle of rum sat beneath the counter top, the bottle covered in the dust it had collected over the last three months.

Tomas never admitted to drinking his problems away, but sometimes it was the only thing he could do. Johnathan would be visiting soon if he didn't take care of the problem now.

He twisted the top off with ease, then poured himself a drink. It had been six days since he'd gotten even a minute of sleep. It seemed almost impossible for him to stay away another moment. He knew though, that if he went to sleep, if he passed out now, Johnathan would be knocking at the door and there would be no way to keep him from getting in.

And the glass sat on the table, untouched. His eyes had finally shut down, and he was asleep.

047. Imagination
Character: Elrodien
Word Count: 248

The angry wind tore at the small cabin that sat on the end of the forest. It didn't sound like anything nature had created, but a sort of magic. Elrodien sat up, lighting a half melted candle sitting next to her with a small match. She looked over to the other side of the bed, her small son sleeping peacefully, then headed to the window. There was something familiar about the wind that knocked on their home.

"VI..." She whispered in an astonished voice. She quickly headed to the door, releasing the latch and ran outside. There a man stood in the middle of the field, his black stringy hair unaffected by the air blowing around him. His eyes were bright red, shining through the dark night.

"VI!" Elrodien ran to him, tears flying from her face. He grabbed her, embracing her with his arms. He was cold, and yet so inviting. She buried her face into his chest crying his name.

Then he spoke to her, in a lovingly cold tone, "Elrodien, my love... you must let me go."

"Wha- what do you mean?" She tried to speak through her tears.

"Don't let your imagination get the best of you love. I am gone." He pulled away from her, stepping back.

"NO! Don't go!" Her vocals forced themselves to scream out.

Then it was over. Elrodien sat there, alone in the field. As if nothing had ever happened. It was real, it couldn't have been my imagination...

049. Music
Character: Andrew
Word Count: 187

He held the drum sticks firmly in his hands, tossing out drum rolls and beats easily as always. He sat back relaxed and smiling, satisfied by what he had accomplished today. He looked over to the other band members who were on the other side of the glass, and they all nodded.

"Work's over mate!" They cheered to him. "Let's get ourselves ah drink."

They headed out to the nearest pub, a little place called The Fox Hole. No one ever recognized them there. They weren't extremely popular anyways.

Andrew ordered a round of drinks, and they all celebrated the finished song. Then a short woman wobbled over to them, drunk.

"Ello mates! You're Andruw rught? An' dis hur is Jakob?" She rocked back and forth, trying to keep her balance. "Your music is crap!" She yelled out.

"Now now now, wait ah minute ma'am. Don't be shouting stuff like that!"

The bartender threw them out, and they all headed home to make some music.

A week later they finished their new song, "Crazy Lady", and it was a hit. It got them their first record deal.

015. Jealousy
Characters: Kira, Riley, and Jesse
Word Count: 273
Summary: This discusses Riley's feelings toward the wolf male Jesse, who has developed a relationship with Kira. He was considered the murderer of their best friend Jorden, but was proven innocent.

Kira met Jesse about three months ago, and she never would have thought her feelings would be like this. She used to hate his guts, and now it's completely different. There is something about him, this wolf boy, that doesn't seem the same. The other wolf people are rude, even cruel, but he... he is loving.

Kira laid in her cat form, curled up next to Jesse. He was in wolf form, his head laying on his two large padded paws. He was a beautiful silver color, and the sun shining through the cracks of the tree tops made him look magnificent.

Riley glanced over at them, still in human form. He made an aggravated sound, then turned away. "Stupid wolf boy..." He said under his breath. "I wish he'd go chase ah different cat."

Jesse's ear twitched. "I can hear ya, ya know?" He lifted his head off the ground. "Listen mate, your sistah is in good paws." He nodded politely.

"What evah, I don't trust yah." Riley stood up then walked off onto the other side of their small camp, going through his bag to find an old book he carried around.

"Roght... well what would you do without me ta carry around your sistah's bag? She's lose all of er belongings again."

"We'd find ah way without ya!" Riley yelled, then ran off into the forest.

Kira awoke, her cat eyes blinking to adjust to the light. "Did Riley get mad again..." She said in a soft spoken voice.

"I'm afraid so, my luv." He rubbed her face with his nose gently, in a playful way. "Go back tah sleep..."

059. Eyes.
Character: Bree
Summary: Bree is punished for his eyes.
Word Count: 270

The tall skinny boy ran through the town, wearing a pair of hand made leather shorts and a dirty white shirt that was much too big for his lanky self. He went into the general store, owned by the elder man who went by Tao, and sat down on the chair next to the door while he waited for the man to return from the back.

Elrodien had sent Bree out to collect some packaged flour and cheese, her fields hadn't done too good this harvest, and the cows stopped giving much milk for drinking, so cheese was out of the question.

Bree quietly sat on the edge of the chair, studying all of the different foods on the counter. Tao could have a feast with those! He thought to himself. Then he heard a giggle, and he looked over the counter to see a small girl. She ran around the counter, poked her head out at him, and stared.

"Hiya! What're ya doin-" She froze, her face like stone. She had a shocked expression, like she was terrified. "What... what's wrong with your eyes?!" She blinked.

"Oh... don't look into them!" He yelled, running over to her to help her.

"AHHH! GET AWAY! STOP IT! STOP THE MAGIK AT ONCE!" She yelled in a high pitched voice, smacking at him.

Tao ran out from the back, grabbing his little girl and holding her sobbing body in his arms. "Leave boy."

"But... I didn't mean to..."

"Get out now, or I'll call the guards."

Bree headed home, empty handed, not ready to tell his mother of the event that happened.

069. Waiting
Character: Kira
Word Count: 263

Her heart loudly thumped in her chest, as if it was trying to break free from her body. She had never been alone, and traveling was no easy matter. a part of her wanted to just break down and cry forever, but she knew that life went on, and Riley wouldn't want her to die because of him. He protected her all of his life, and she had to live on for his sake.

She sat on a cold bench, her legs pressed well together. Kira didn't transform into a cat much anymore. It was dangerous; the wrong people knew her in that form. She quietly fumbled with her coat straps. It was old and rugged, like the rest of her items, but then again it was better than being cold. The train is late. This sentence kept going through her head. The train...

Snow began falling onto the ground, some of it melting and the rest sticking firmly. The train is late.

She looked around nervously, watching for any sign of trouble. Then she saw the train in sight. Here it comes. Finally. I can get back home.

She grabbed her bags, then headed onto the train. She quietly took a seat near the front, her face pressed up against the window. She was the only one who boarded the train, and only a few riders were on it.

A single tear slid down her face as the train began chugging out of the quiet town, and she headed to the ocean. It was time to get on the ship and head home. Alone.

Characters: Kira, Jesse

WARNING:
There's some heavy romance in this one, nothing past PG-13, but just a warning for those who aren't into that kind of stuff.

His soft pink lips brushed against Kira's face, causing her to blush madly. He looked into her eyes smiling, then began to toy with her ear.

"Kerah..." He whispered into her ear softly. "I luv yah.... you kno that roght?"

It was sweet little moments like this that made Kira feel so awkward. "Ye... yes dear." She smiled, her face lit up like a street light. "But if Riley fines out..."

"No, no, hun... this is gunna be our little secrot, alroght?" He brushed his nose against her's lightly, then looked at her again. "He doesn't need ta know bout us." He pulled the hair out of her face and pushed it behind her ear.

"Okay..." She nodded slowly. Kira had never lied to her brother before. This was very different of her. The whole feeling of love was as well.

"You okay sweethout?" His smile was so charming, she couldn't help but smile back.

"Yeah," she nodded reassuringly, "I'm bettah than evah!"

036. Silence
Character: Tomas
Word Count: 288

It was final. Johnathan must go. Tomas had it all planned out, the perfect way to get rid of Johnathan. He would no longer have to hear his "friend", never ever again. He had locked himself in his apartment for three weeks now, paying the bills in advance with the money he got from his long gone beloved, who was rotting in a basement some 200 miles away from there.

There was only one thing standing between him and Johnathan now, and that was the precious pistol he held in his left hand, loaded with three shots in case one just didn't do the job.

"JOHNATHAN!" He screamed out, his voice cracking under the pressure. It didn't want to talk, not today. "COME OUT NOW DAMN YOU!"

There was silence. Nothing was going to provoke Johnathan to come out tonight. Not this time.

"Get your ass out here!"

Nothing.

"Fine, I'll take us both! Fuck you Johnathan." His hands were shaking, and he began to cry. "I'll take us both..."

His finger felt around the trigger, the gun pressed onto his skull. He closed his eyes tightly, then reopened them, tears falling rapidly. "Come out... please." His breathing became long and drawn out. "You don't think I'll do it? I will!" He had made his way into a corner of the room somehow, without even realizing it. "Alright then..."

His shaking arm pulled the trigger, but it somehow barely grazed the side of his skull, perhaps from his unsteady hands, or maybe it was a sign. He fell over, the pain unbearable, then blacked out.

Hours later he woke up in the hospital, in a room with no one... except Johnathan.

"Thought you'd kill us, did you?" He smirked.

005. Broken.
Character: Tomas
Word Count: 247

Deep down inside, Tomas was still a child of sorts. His innocence may have been shed long ago, but his mind and heart remained as if it were of a young boy. When Johnathan allowed it, Tomas would think back into his very own childhood and remember the light joyful things that had filled his world once upon a time. Johnathan rarely permitted this however, and usually stuck his own memories inside Tomas', which confused him.

"I was climbing up the attic ladder... gracefully so that the old wooden planks wouldn't snap. Once I got inside, I sneezed two or three times, the dust filling my lungs." Tomas recited his memory as if it was written in a book. "Once I came back from the dust attack, I looked out the single window in the room, amazed by how high it was. I remember mother calling for me then, and I made my way back down the ladder, afraid of punishment for going to the forbidden."

"NO!" Johnathan yelled loudly. "That's WRONG Tomas. You idiot, how could you forget?! REMEMBER! Who else was with you that day Tomas? Julia. She was in the room. She was at the window. Remember what happened?"

Tomas looked saddened. "No... no that didn't happen."

"Yes Tomas. You pushed her! Right out the window! Her little neck was broken when she hit the pavement!"

"NO!" Tears flooded his beautiful eyes.

Tomas refused to believe this story, it couldn't be true... could it?

082. Fear
Character: Elrodien, Bree
Word Count: 294

"RUN BREE!" She yelled at the top of her lungs, before turning around to grab the young boy, throwing him on her back. She swiftly made her way through the dark woods, her elf senses giving her a slight advantage. Her feet were light, dusting over the woods as if she was a small animal, the muscles in her legs tightening with every step. Her eyes were stronger than the enemy's, if she could just make it home.

Bree held onto her back tightly, as if this would be their last moment together. He could see the beast's red eyes glowing in the darkness. He tightly shut his eyes, holding back his need to scream.

"We're almost there, just a little bit longer..." It was too dark to see Elrodien's face, which had just twisted into a horrid mess of fear. "It's a dead end!"

"Mother, it's coming!" Bree shouted, sadness in his voice. His tears began to stream heavily down his face, not being able to hold it anymore.

"We'll jump... we must... hold on Bree! I've got you, alright?" She turned back, looking at the beast one last time, he was 20 feet away, still coming forward. She built up speed in just a few seconds, lunging off the side of the cliff, still holding onto her only son. The beast stood at the edge of the cliff, snorting and screeching at his prey that escaped, then ran back the way it came, hoping to catch them in the water.

Once Elrodien and Bree hit the water, she swam to the surface, stopping to make sure her son was alright. "We must go, before he comes back..." She leaped up, taking Bree onto her back again, then rushed through more wood, heading home.

021. Heart.
Characters: Kira, Riley, Jesse
Word Count: 250

Kira's heart pounded in her chest as she watched her brother from the shadows. He was fighting with Jesse, arguing about their relationship. Riley kept saying things to Jesse, things like, "I know what you are up to!" or, "I know your plan, it won't happen! Leave now!" Jesse kept denying the things he said, telling him he had nothing to do with the deaths of their friends. Kira was confused and heart broken, not knowing who was right. Was her brother trying to run her only love out of her life, or was he right about Jesse?

Her heart didn't have an answer this time. It rarely did anymore. She came out of hiding and headed closer to them, listening to the conversation. They ignored her and continued to argue.

"Riley, ya know I wuldn't do ah thing tah hurt Kira, roght? I luv hah so very much... I really do." He had a sincere look on his face, but Riley wouldn't fall for it.

"No Jesse. I won't believe yah. Give it up now! It's ovah. I want you tah go!"

"Alroght, I'll go... but I'm takin Kira with me." Jesse looked at Kira, and she nodded.

"Maybe this is for dah best Riley... Take some time alone, will yah?" Her face was saddened, afraid of what would happen next.

Riley just stood there, watching them as they walked away. The only family he had was gone now, but he knew he'd rescue her somehow. He had to.

026. Midnight.
Character: Vivid
Word Count: 299

It was twenty-four minutes until Midnight, and the sky was as dark as ever. The clouds hid the starts and moon, leaving the town a dark spot on the map. Vivid slid her dresser that was blocking her window over to the side, then opened the window and crawled out. She could finally be outside again.

She walked across the empty streets going to the Seven-Eleven her friend Mikel worked at. "Hey Mikey..." She whispered quietly. There was a couple in the back of the store deciding which liquor to buy. Vivid didn't much like people.

"Hey Vivid! I'm glad you made it out tonight. How are you?" He smiled at her, his eyes hidden with cheap contacts to make him look dead.

"I'm alright... aside from the whole phobia..." She liked it when he smiled. It made her feel at home, like everything was going to be alright. "I just wanted to tell you I won't be here the next few days. They are sending me to a clinic. Forcing me to sit in light rooms."

"That's terrible Vivid... If vampires survive, you can do it, right?" He smiled again, reaching for her pale hand.

"I better go, Mother has been checking in on me lately. I've been caught twice already."

"Oh, wait Vivid!" Mikel reached under the counter, pulling a box out. "Here, take this. I got it for you."

"Thanks... I'll open it when I get home." She headed out.

"Be careful! There's a lot of drunks out tonight!" He waved goodbye, still smiling.

When she got back into her room she opened the box, then pulled out a beautiful necklace made of white gold in the shape of a bat. It was the most wonderful thing she had ever seen. "Thank you Mikel..." She whispered.

013. Smile.
Characters: Tomas
Word Count: 292

It's been three months since Jonathan came into my life. Three. Whole. Fucking. Years. I suppose he won't be leaving any time soon. I sit in my room, lights busted out of their sockets, torn wallpaper hanging off the walls, clothes ripped and thrown onto furniture. I remember when life was simple, when mother told me to pick the clothing up, and I obeyed her.

Now she's dead. They all are. The worst part is Jonathan's cunning, his secrets and lies, and how well he pulls it off. I could never do a thing like that. He tells them stories, and they believe him. He forges their suicides, and they think it's real. Isn't is suspicious? I'm supposed to be living with my Grandma, but she's as senile as they get. She's crazy. I can't live with a psycho like that.

I just stay in my old home, and Jonathan comes to take over my life. He ruins everything. Three months. When is the last time I've smiled? I stand in front of this fucking mirror, trying as hard as I can to get a smile out.

You know it takes more muscles to frown than to smile? My mother always said that when I was down. Well I don't know what genius came up with that, because apparently my muscles are rusted into this. I can't smile. Jonathan has a beautiful smile. It isn't healthy, the way he smiles. The police believe him just because of his smile. I wish I could do that. Not the killing, just the smiling. Maybe one day I will. Jonathan has started ordering me to do his work. I keep denying, but he's pushing harder. Maybe if I listen he'll let me smile. Just once.

086. Queen.
Character: Elrodien, V.I.
Word Count: 351

It was the second time Elrodien had laid eyes on the mysterious man. The first time she had spent the night with him, and awoke in an empty bed. This time she caught him outside of a tavern, and a girl was following him, much like Elrodien had the first time she met him. She was worried, V.I. was a dangerous man. She went after them quietly, and by the time she had caught up V.I. had started some type of magic spell on the girl. Elrodien rushed over to him, and grabbed his arm.

"STOP THIS!" She screamed at him, but he shoved her off with brute force, knocking her back into the soil. She was just a young elf at this time, only a few decades old. She got back on her feet, then tried once more.

V.I. appeared done with the girl now, and he dropped her onto the ground and grabbed Elrodien. "Don't make me hurt you... I don't want to." He looked back at the girl who had followed him. "She's different than you, I can't explain it now."

His eyes glowed red, the full moon reflecting off of them. "Let me make you strong." He held Elrodien up into the sky, then stabbed her in the heart with his sword. She screamed in pain as the blood soaked her tunic and drenched V.I.'s blade.

The moon began to shine brightly, and Elrodien floated up into the air, the wound closing up quickly. Over it a crescent mark appeared. She later awoke in a camp far away from the tavern. "I... I'm alive." She spoke quietly, next to her sat V.I.

"Yes, I wasn't going to kill you love. I made you better." A smirk covered his face.

"V.I. ... listen, what am I to you?"

"Well... now you are my Queen." He patted her on the head.

"What?!"

"Yes, Queen of the full moon, a real Goddess."

"Tell me about that girl! What happened to her?" She looked at him worried.

"That is a story for another time, love."
