# 12 -- Take My Hand

Lacey’s eyes were fixed on the white midnight sky, and she stumbled backwards over the snow caked, cobblestone street. Her back hit the alley-facing wall of Mrs. Lydia Applebaum’s small fabric shop, and she lifted her hand to her lips -- a delicate gesture unbefitting the situation.

The beautiful man descended from Heaven. A smile curled his lips, but it was predatory and unkind. His eyes were almost as white as his skin, or his wings. He appeared to be stepping down an invisible staircase, rather than flying.

“Take my hand.” He commanded, extending his talons towards her once she was within reach.

And she did.

# 94 -- I miss you

She stared, straight ahead.

The desert wasteland stretched out before them, intense heat making the air ripple and the Wires shift slightly beneath their feet. Maybe like ocean waves.

‘Cass will kill you,’ she wanted to say -- about his forbidden love affair with the Wingless. But words were not necessary. Her face was stony, though he had always, always been able to illicit emotion from her. He had been the only one. But it wasn’t about Cass, really.

There was a sheen on her eye, accentuated by the stubborn, taut line of her lips. She was angry and sad, and what she really wanted to say was, ‘I miss you.’
