Quaere Verum: 100 drabblings
Q U A E R E - V E R U M seek the truth Ok! I figured it was about time I created a drabbles page. I've recently been getting into RPing and the further in I got, the more I realized I don't really know my characters. Thus I have decided to beat their personalities out of my head ^^ This may be painful... For me because dedicating myself to this will be very time consuming and for you all because I am not exactly the best of writers. :3 Anyway, wish me luck oh and feel free to comment! |

T H E - C H A R A C T E R S Characters Rebuild (in development): So as I mentioned earlier, the characters I've developed earlier are really quite terrible and unrefined so I'm trying to fix them. Here's a brief sketch of what I have so far. Behold! Aki's a boy now ^^;;; Aniera (Ani) Mirenne Personality: Ani is quiet and keeps very much to herself. She is known to talk to inanimate objects. She is resourceful and knows how to take care of herself. She lives life simply with few if any friends. Around people she is close to, Ani tends to be very caring and often enjoys spoiling them. She can also be a bit clingy. Brief History: Ani's mother died when she was very young so she doesn't really have any memories of her. She was raised by her father whose job is something along the lines of a mercenary/fighter-for-hire. He is somewhat of a free spirit, always enjoying a good fight and never quite thinking his own life and the loved ones around him. When Ani's mother died, it was a a bit of a wake up call for him so he decided to become more responsible in order to raise his daughter properly. While he was raising Ani, he steered away from the dangerous jobs and found work instead as a carpenter. As she grew older, he became a bit restless with his quiet life and began taking odd jobs, usually involving somewhat dangerous situations. By 13, he left to help quell a mini-rebellion taking place in a neighboring country leaving Ani with some money to take care of herself. From then on he'd return home after each job, sometimes in various states of injury. Akiol (Aki) Personality: Aki's a bit of a random character. His entire mantra is to live for the moment. He does things mainly out of self-interest than out of compassion for others. However, if there are a few people he's become close to. He often stops by to visit Ani if only to drive her crazy. He's a very restless spirit and is bored easily. He often starts something and drops it abruptly. Brief History: Aki's family owns a tailor shop in a small town somewhat near a larger city. He has a sister who is doing quite well designing and creating dresses. Aki often heard stories of the city nearby from customers who came to commission a dress from her. He grew restless with the small town life and ran away from home around the age of 15. He then spent 4 years wandering from place to place performing odd job to earn money. Over time, he became a jack of all trades: sometimes repairing clothing and toys to even singing with pipes or a guitar and telling stories. He met Ani when she was a waitress at a restaurant. He was the hired entertainer for the week. She reminded him of the family he had left behind and grew close to her, thinking of her as his little sister. From then on, even when he left the town, he'd always come back with stories of his travels to relay to her. |
S C R A P P E D Behold! Cliché character designs! ><.. These are the original character designs that I will be dropping for future rps. ^^ I just want to put them here so you guys can see where the new characters evolved from. Character Name: Ani Mirenne Currently Cast In: Temporary owner of a cafe near her home due to the absence of the owner. Age: 17 Appearance: Short dark brown hair that shines copper in the light, purple eyes, fair skin, and a small stature (she's about 5'1") She doesn't like to fight if she can help it but she does know how to throw daggers. She always keeps a few hidden away on her person just in case. Personality: She's a very strange person. She's known to start talking to inanimate objects and mention random things. Ani's also known to occasionally have a quick temper and can be very stubborn however she's generally very friendly. Brief History: Ani's mother died when she was very young so she was raised by her father. Because her father's a mercenary, as she became older she had to learn how to fend for herself when he was away on a job. Character Name: Aki Currently Cast In: Villain/royal jester in a medieval fantasy. Perhaps will participate in a coup? Age: Appears to be 15 however is much older.. History: Aki has another personality in her head that is much more sinister than herself. I'm not sure I'll give that personality a name so for now we'll refer to it as the Other Aki. So ok! Aki was separated from her parents at a very early age. She had no survival skills at all and was afraid to resort to thievery to survive. Soon after, the Other Aki spoke to her and convinced her to steal food from the market. Aki learned to rely on the Other Aki for help and advice. Over time, the Other Aki learned to completely take over Aki's body. During this time, Aki is completely unaware of what is happening. For the most part, the Other Aki is content to sit back and watch only commenting every now and then. Aki has traveled quite extensively. She has worked a wide range of jobs from being in a circus to working as a barmaid. She usually just goes where she feels like going but this time the Other Aki insisted she try and gain a position in the royal court of this kingdom. The Other Aki has heard rumors of a possible movement forming against the rulers of this kingdom and is interested in learning more... Personality: Aki: Aki is a very spontaneous person. She loves to joke around and play. She is very simple minded and almost child-like. She trusts the Other Aki wholeheartedly. She can be a very resourceful person and often enjoys whitting figurines out of wood. Other Aki: The Other Aki is a very dark person. She is very methodical and patient. She's usually very quiet and spends most of her time observing the world through Aki's eyes and plotting. She loves to create trouble for people when she gets bored and she gets bored quite often. Looks: Very small stature (about 5') Although female she is almost boyish with a flat chest, skinny body, and copperish 'pixie' hair (that's basically a short boy cut hair). She has playful green eyes. Aki usually wears very colorful top with lots of swishes and bells and plain tights underneath. Hidden in her sleeves are various poison powders and small thin knives to throw along with a flute. She uses a dark cloak to sneak around an often removes the bells from her clothes. |
Ok here goes my first one. It's a bit emo but I think it's ok since it's to be expected with what's happening. o.o...
#8 silence - Ani (past) It was time. The old leather bags were packed and resting just outside the door. Ani stepped hesitantly out from the dim shade of the entryway carrying a small mug and squinted against the light of the rising sun. She raised a hand to shield her eyes and looked forwards. Approaching was a man older by many years. His movements were strong and determined as he led a proud young horse towards the small house. Every now and then the horse would attempt to struggle, pulling away at the reins and struggling to be released, but his attempts were stilled by the man's stern grip. Finally they arrived at the house. The horse was tied firmly in place and had ceased resisting. The man walked towards Ani and took the cup from her hands and took a deep drink. He handed the now-empty mug back to her with a satisfied look. "Nothing like cool water after a good fight." He chuckled. Ani peered at him and then looked at the horse. He noticed the direction of her gaze. "No worries kiddo." He ruffled her hair. "That horse was a steal. I didn't have to pay much for him and with a bit of training he'll be as good as any other." She looked at him worriedly. Ani knew that perhaps with some training the horse could be calmed but that took time. No matter how talented he was, there was no way that wild of a horse would be ready for combat, but she knew he would still go. No matter how difficult the journey he could not stay any longer. He was not a man of idleness and a peaceful life. For 10 years he had remained and carefully raised her to be the girl she was today. For 10 years she could see the longing in his heart for his former life but he persevered out of love. And so out of love, she would let him go. She smiled up at him, "I'm sure he'll be a great horse." He looked carefully at Ani then nodded. He walked past her and grabbed his bags. There was a bit of a struggle, but he finally managed to tie his bags onto the horse. One hand firmly holding the reins once more, he raised the other to wave at Ani. "I'll see you soon." Ani waved goodbye as well smiling as brightly as she could. "Goodbye father." She watched as he walked slowly away until he was gone. At the age of 13 she was finally alone. She returned back to the darkness of her home and looked around. It was so silent without his presence. She slipped onto the floor and cried. |
Ok here goes another one :3 This is going to be the first one I have based on the reformed profiles! Not sure how this one's going to work. I had it all planned out but some bits are still shaky ^^ For the record, I'm thinking they're about.. 4 years apart? Akiol in my present mind is about 20 and that makes her 16. I wanted to make her older but thinking about her circumstances I think it's okay for her to be that young. She is just very mature for her age. Whereas Akiol is almost child-like at times. Perhaps I've overdone that in this drabble x.x... He comes off a bit too much like a whiney kid.
#2 green pen - Aniera and Akiol Aniera returned home to what had to be the remnants of a furious storm that had swept through her house. Paper was strewn everywhere, some crumpled into balls and some torn into strips. A few even appeared to be thrown on the floor then stomped upon. From another room she heard a frustrated yell along with the angry sound of paper being torn. She carefully picked her way through the mess and entered the room. She found him on her bed surrounded by paper in various states of destruction. He looked up at her, blazing green eyes challenging her to say anything about the mess he had created. Aniera simply brushed aside a few wrinkled sheets and sat next to him. "What are you doing?" she asked in an amused tone. Akiol frowned at his currently unabused sheet then back up at her before replying. "I was thinking of applying to the town's newspaper. Some people told me I could maybe set up a column telling about my travels." His gaze returned to the page. "So I went to talk to the newspaper and they said they liked the idea but I'd need to provide them with a writing sample before they could give me their decision." Akiol suddenly grew irritated and threw the paper to the floor. Aniera watched as the paper glided sadly to the floor. 'It's like a paper massacre...' Her lips twitched slightly as she tried to keep a straight face. She gazed at Akiol who was now scribbling furiously away at a fresh page. "So what seems to be the problem?" He lurched suddenly towards her disturbing the paper between them. "This is the problem!" He angrily brandished a black pen in her face. "How can you write with this??" Aniera's eyes widened and she burst out into laughter. Akiol glared indignantly at her, "What is so funny?" "Ah sorry." She frantically tried to stop laughing but one look at his frowning face along with the fist that clenched the pen set her off once again. Once she finally regained her composure she asked, "What's wrong with my black pen?" He was still upset with her for laughing at him but he had to know. "Doesn't it bore you? How can you possibly be inspired to write with such a dull color? Every word I write seems to die as soon as the ink dries." She chuckled, "Isn't that just a bit melodramatic?" "Nothing is too melodramatic," he replied solemnly. "What's worse is black is all you seem to have. Can't you get something a bit happier? Why not write with markers or something? Black is only for funerals and other miserable things. I refuse to write a death paper." Ani shook her head. She knew the newspaper wouldn't be able to accept a writing sample written in marker but she also knew Akiol wasn't ever the type to compromise his beliefs no matter how bizarre. Nevertheless she decided to try and reason with him. "Akiol, the newspaper isn't going to accept the writing sample if it's written in marker." He frowned at her, "Then perhaps they should." He knew what she was thinking. Akiol was being silly again. But the truth was, he truly didn't feel inspired to write with such a dull color. Deciding he had enough of trying to compose the essay, he stood up. "If they can't accept my paper for whatever form it comes in, then I just won't bother." He got up and left. She sighed tiredly and began picking up his mess. Sometimes being with Akiol could be such a hassle but there were times when he would surprise her. He really was a talented being, he was just extremely difficult. She often felt much of his potential was destroyed by his own stubbornness, but just this once she would humor him. Aniera often loved to hear Akiol tell the stories of his travels and she felt the rest of the town deserved the honor as well. The next day Akiol quietly entered Ani's home knowing she was at work carrying a small bouquet of daffodils. He knew he had acted out of line and hoped the flowers would act as some sort of consolation. He was too prideful to apologize to her face but he knew she would understand. What he found on the kitchen table was a vase waiting for him along with a fresh stack of papers and a pen. Written on the top page in a vibrant green ink was a note saying, "Apology accepted. Now get writing." |
Wow very nice, i can tell you have been doing this writing for a very long time! ^^ Good job.
Please keep writing. |
Thank you! :3 I've been trying to improve my writing for awhile but I still feel like I bounce between being unnecessarily long winded and being choppy. XD
I'm working on another drabble but my brain refuses to cooperate ><... |
Ok!! I've been sitting on this one since the beginning of the break @[email protected] Evil fly fishing thing made it really hard to write ><... But because I'm determined to get it out before the break ends here it is XD Watch me edit this a billion times >.>... I hate the ending. Blah~
This is basically the meeting of Akiol and this old man who kind of becomes his first mentor. Someone has to teach this spoiled boy how to survive ^^;; I might elaborate on these two later but I'm not sure yet. :3 #16 fish - Akiol (past - age 15) The river looked beautiful and inviting. The water swirled peacefully by, lapping against the river bed. Akiol tiredly walked alongside the moving water until he found a sunny spot along the bank. He wearily sat down against a nearby tree and gazed into the water. It had been a week after he had run away and the small amount of money and food he had taken from home had dwindled down to barely anything. The boy sighed and reached into his pack for his last roll. He bit into the stale roll sadly. His stomach grumbled, unsatisfied with the dry bread. Akiol's eyes lazily unfocused as he gnawed on the old piece of bread. 'I hate this,' he thought to himself. A splash of water brought his attention to the fish swimming in river. The boy's stomach grumbled angrily and he got up, tossing the roll back into his pack. He approached the water's edge and stared intently into the river's depths. Stripping down to his underwear, Akiol slowly entered the river intent upon catching a meal. How to cook the fish was a problem to be solved later. What came first was obtaining it. He unsheathed his dagger and waited for the water to settle. Minutes passed by but the fish had yet to return. His stomach grumbled quietly and he waited. Slowly, the fish returned but none seemed to come near enough. He kept a sharp eye out for an opportune moment to strike, his body tense in anticipation. Suddenly a large fish swam into view. He lunged quickly hoping to pierce the fish in one go. The water splashed up violently and the fish smoothly dashed away. Akiol's wild swing had completely missed its target and his stomach growled in indignation. In an outburst of anger, he flailed around in the water shouting his frustrations. He then stormed out of the river fuming quietly to himself. In the silence, a light chuckle could be heard. He glowered in the direction of the laughter and out appeared an old man carrying a bucket and a fishing pole. The man took his time approaching Akiol. Once he was closer he called out amusedly, "What did the water ever do to you?" Having calmed down, Akiol blushed at his display of impatience. Looking sheepishly at the man, he replied. "I was trying my hand at fishing." A hand raked through his hair in embarrassment at his awkward attempt to catch a meal. "Unfortunately I may not have been in my right mind..." His stomach murmured its confirmation. He returned to his resting spot and sat down. The elder burst out into another round of laughter and sat loudly next to the boy. "You know son, I don't think you can catch a fish with a dagger unless you're some sort of trained killer." He gave the boy a teasing look-over. "Definitely not killer material I'd say." He leaned forward, grabbed his fishing pole, and handed it to Akiol. "How about you give this a try." Akiol took the pole and looked questioningly at the old man. It was the strangest fishing pole he had ever seen. The line seemed to be too long, the pole too short and light, the the lure too strange. Instead of having a simple hook attached to the end of it, the hook was bundled with a few brightly colored feathers. He looked curiously at the feathered lure, unsure of what to make of it. 'How are you supposed to catch anything with this?' he thought to himself. Akiol looked to the man for an explanation. "What you've never seen a fly-fishing rod?" He grinned, took the pole back from the perplexed boy, and approached the water. "You have much to learn son." He scanned the water for where the fish were, cast the lure over, and began flicking his pole expertly. The little lure at the end of the string seemed to be dancing through the air, occasionally landing lightly on the water's surface before flitting off again. Akiol was entranced. He wasn't sure what the man was doing but the movements created were stunning. The odd lure seemed to transform into a insect skipping along the water. As if by magic, a fish jumped out of the water and caught the lure in its mouth. The man smiled triumphantly and returned, wriggling fish in hand. Akiol was stunned. His unhappy stomach was ignored as he eagerly asked the man to teach him. The elderly man smiled gently and shook his head. "First let's satisfy that stomach of yours. It's so loud, you'll scare the fish away." ... The man looked over at the boy who was wolfing down his freshly cooked fish. He could tell the boy had just run away from home. The boy was simply too inexperienced to survive by himself. The man shook his head and took a small bite from his own fish. How long had it been since he had left his life behind? It had been too long ago to remember. Along his many travels, he had come to learn that a life of wandering wasn't for everyone. In the end, most people need a stable life that a vagrant can't have. He wondered if this boy would be able to handle it. Akiol looked up and grinned toothily at him before making a swipe at his fish. The man laughed and let the boy take it. Still smiling he thought to himself, 'That boy will be fine.' |
