Title: Discovering the Little Things
Rating: PG13 Universe/Characters: N/A Warnings: Nothing more than some adult topics and allusions to sex Prompt: Saints & Sinners 012. Discovery Synopsis: A man discovers his lover his cheating on him and mourns over all the small signs that should have tipped him off sooner. --- They tell you everyone cheats. But I thought we had something special. Something that wasn't even comparable to those things everyone else had. You would never cheat on me. You knew how many issues I had with trust and you understood how amazing it was that you had earned mine. We had even talked about the worst things loved ones could do to us... you knew. And somehow... it never stopped you. I can't help but blame myself. Oh, I blame you too... but I feel like maybe there was something I could have done differently... Maybe if I had noticed sooner... Looking back, I see now. Those long hours at work... the scratches and bruises you brought home that you couldn't explain. You said you were clumsy. It never crossed my mind that maybe that scratch mark was someone else's nails... that bruise was a love bite... that reddened area was carpet burn. You were often late coming home. Stuck in traffic, you'd say. Or sometimes it was paper work that kept you. What reason did I have to think that the new employee was the real reason you were late? All those little things were there, screaming a silent tale of what you were doing to me. But here we stand, staring at one another. Your mouth is hanging open and I'm not sure if its shock, a stuck explanation, or the fact that you're still panting from being inside of him. I haven't even looked at him... the other man. When I do, he looks ashamed and a small part of me feels good. I hope he feels like a disgusting whore even when he's dressed and out of here. I hope it stays with him. I didn't know I had it in me to be so cruel. I've discovered quite a few things today. And the most important, I think, is the fact that this isn't my fault. You're a useless bastard and I can only wish that I had discovered this sooner. |

The idea behind beginnings is that you are given a word, phrase, idea or a few guidelines and you write a small ficlet (no more than 500 words). This is one of those. The challenge was simply that the first sentence had to have shadow in it.
--- "They're made entirely of shadows," he said, his voice low, leaning forward slightly into the light of the campfire. "But you'd never know it to look at them. They look as real as you and me. Touch them and you'd think they were real. It's their mouths that give them away. Anything that comes from those lips is undeniably not human. Their voices are too clear. It's a sound your body rejects. And their kiss. Too real, too passionate, too seductive. Your lips can't keep up and you feel like you are fumbling no matter how hard you try. When they're finished, your life feels drained. And indeed it is. Every time they kiss you, you loose a part of yourself. But you could never hope to resist their kiss. Once you've tasted it, your body longs for more. You'd go insane without it. You hunt them down, seeking just one more kiss, one more touch of those unreal lips. And that is why we wear these necklaces." The elder man held up the thin leather cord around his neck, which had bound to it a small glowing stone. "Our light keeps them from getting near. But even with these, their words can be just as dangerous. You will gladly take off this and any other protection once they get inside your mind." One of the wide-eyed children spoke up. "Is this why we cannot speak to strangers?" "Exactly! Anything we don?t know could be one of them! We?re safe together." One of the girls in the back stood, and slowly made her way in front of the elder. Reaching inside her tunic, she tugged on the leather cord of her necklace. The gem was gone. The man smiled and patted her head. "Do not fret, little one. We will simply get you another." She shook her head hard. "I di... I did not l-loose it... I g-gave it... to one of them." Her entire body seeming to tremble. The elder looked confused. "Gave it to them? That is not possible. The light would have forced him to disappear." She moved to shake her head, then went rigid. When she seemed to come around again, her eyes locked the elder?s gaze firmly. When she spoke, her voice was no longer that of a young girl, but mixed with a man's voice. "Not after she agreed to shroud it with her soul." The girl laughed as a horrified expression took over the man's features. He scrambled to his feet, his mouth open in a silent scream. The children, seeing this grew frightened and ran away. The girl's laughter faded into a growl. The sound of it seemed to freeze the old man's blood in his veins, his body going immobile. She launched herself at him, grabbing his face with her hands. She kissed him, using her tongue to lap leisurely at his soul. When he was finally drained, she released him, and made her way to the closest tent. |

---- He didn't remember falling asleep but this had to be a dream. You simply didn't go from reading during lunch to looking down at yourself sitting in a strange room. He often dreamed he was floating above, watching without actually taking part. He supposed that some deep-seated psychological thing was responsible for this, but he really didn't give two shits, especially when the scene below him was so enticing. Somewhere deep down, a small part of him knew he should be trying to wake himself... the rest of him, however, would not dare look away. Gaibriel watched as Jullien, dressed in a skirt short enough to get him arrested, bent over and pinned him in place between his arms. That predatory look in Jullien's eyes made his heart jump into his throat and pound wildly, almost choking him. No amount of swallowing would remove it, but he tried anyway. He wanted to touch Jullien. In his dreams was the only place he would ever but even now he couldn't bring himself to move. But this was a dream after all, and Jullien was now apparently a mind reader. With a feral smirk, he took Gaibriel's hand and placed it decisively under his skirt. Gaibriel sucked in a sharp breath and Jullien chuckled lightly at him. Even in his dreams, Jullien could make him heart and mind race, leaving him behind in the dust, confused, excited and unsure of everything but the face that he wanted more. "Hey there, sleepyhead!" Gaibriel jumped hard enough to almost fall off his chair as a pair of arms wrapped around him through the wall he was pinned against. His eyes opened and Jullien was gone, replaced by the expanse of his school's lunchroom. The laughter in his ear brought him back completely and he turned to see Mat-mat's smiling face next to his. Gaibriel's cheeks burned with a blush and he pulled away, feeling more uncomfortable than ever. "Uh, um... hey. Um, I need to go to the, uh..." He wanted to excuse himself to the bathroom. A quick pee would rid himself of the problem he currently held in his lap but there was no way he was moving until he could think of a way to cover himself. "Don't worry, I got you covered," Mat-mat whispered. "Here, take my coat." A blanket of black leather and metal studs fell into Gaibriel's lap. "Happens me to sometimes when I conk out too. Tie it around your waist and no one'll see. I'll go keep Amanda off you so you can make it there quickly." And with two firm pats to Gaibriel's shoulder, Mat-mat was gone into the crowd of students. Gaibriel glanced over his shoulder, stunned and a little scared before he pushed it aside and did as Mat-mat had suggested. He'd noticed that a convenience store near his house had little energy drink shots. He made a mental note to pick some up as he shuffled his way stiffly to the restrooms. |

XD Both of them would be pretty shitty room mates, actually. Probably Rivet. Better of the two evils for that type of place. 7. 2 (Rade), 7 (Drea), and 12 (Enriel) have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss? o.o Probably somewhere open so Enriel could even fit inside (he's a centaur). And Rade and En would probably sit and blab about the Core while Drea just sorta stares in disbelief. Or until Drea and Rade start blabbing about girls. 8. 3 (Arret) challenges 10 (Rivet) to a duel. What happens? Poor Rivet XD He's dead. D-e-d dead. 9. If 1 stole 8's (Doll) most precious possession, how would 8 (Doll) get it back? Doll doesn't really have a precious possession... Meanwhile, 4 (Jordan) has kidnapped 12 (Enriel) in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5 (Lilly), they seek out 3 (Arret), who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fic? Surly, ever-bored, diverse. Okay, good! Now, how long have you been writing for? Ummm... at least since first grade. That's first real story I can remember writing. There’s always the dreaded subject of “Writer’s Block.” What do you do to over come it. Wait it out. -__- That's all I really can do. And yell at GM but that never helps anything ^^; Okay! So what do you like to write about most? Homosexual romance/angsty stuff ^; I don't like straight couples. Do you have a favorite-FAVORITE author? Or just somebody/something inspiring to get you motivated? Hmm... well Susan Kay's Phantom is my all time favorite book. And I love Dean Koontz, Anne Rice and Terry Brooks as well. I don't think I have an all time favorite though. Alright, writers tend to “baby” certain characters. What’s 1 or 2 characters you simply could not currently live without? GM and Doll. Those two will always be my favorite babies <3 GASP! You’re faced with the dilemma of killing 1 character off! Which 1 and why? Hmm.... As much as I hate to say it, probably Arret because a violent and sudden end fits him best. Finally, you’re stuck on a deserted island with a character. Who is it and why? That's a hard one. Probably Fadren or Hisui. Both of them lived in the wilderness at one point or another. |
