10 Symptoms
8. Stuck in Bed/ in the House
Characters: Meeki, Gaurav, Orlaith
Purpose: Develop the relationships better.
The changeling girl appraised the room, the color of her irises twitching betweencolors, amber and coral, safari-yellow and blazing-white, as she did so. Cherry red when they settled on a bouquet by Meeki's bedside, where his presence all but permeated the individual molecules of air.
"Something wrong, Orlaith?" Her 'other self' had a lilt to her voice, despite her running fever.
"The flowers are plastic." Orlaith braced her hands against the wall, head purposely angled away from the offending objects. It did not matter that Meeki would not be able to scry her true reasons for ire behind that quip.
And as always, Orlaith's intuition was right. The bedridden girl coughed a bit, daintily, her lily-white wrist muffling the sound from her cutesy pink lips, then replied with a chiming laugh, "They last longer."
"They're fake."
"Is it really your way to harass poor little girls when they're horribly diseased?"
"Is it proper for the type of girl men raze kingdoms for to receive plastic flowers?" Orlaith could not keep the venom from her words, and from the subsequent silence, it was obvious Meeki had not been able to disregard that as some fevered illusion. She sighed, dropping her hands to her hips. "They're fake."
Meeki gave a timid smile, "I can't imagine Gaurav being a normal person and giving me normal roses."
At that, the changeling snapped.
"He used to give me real roses."
This time the silence lasted.
Author's Note: Ahh, these three, mangy leftovers of a book I wanted to write a few years back chock full of creative morass. I still <3 them though.
(I've also tweaked the original premises under which I created them. Maybe they'll become roleplay characters, or characters for a re-adaptation of that projected novel.)
Mwehh, it's so late at night that I can't see straight. I'll fix the grammar/finish the dang thing tomorrow.
