Underground Horror (Stephen King vs. Chuck Palahniuk)

If you don't know who either of these authors are, shame, shame, shame on you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mmm...the sound of bones crunching, of tendons ripping, of skin splitting.
The words so vivid, you can hear the maggots chewing away at skin echoing in your ears.
Makes you all warm and fuzzy inside, don't it?
Like 'em, love 'em, hate 'em, no one can deny that Chuck and King are masters of horror. With their twisted views on human nature, their demented takes on life, and their somewhat frightening amount of knowledge of torture and death, both authors have an uncanny ability to chill you to the bone, send your gag reflex into overdrive, and yet still leave you clinging to the pages of their books, unable to swallow the first fast enough. Their tales linger over you for days.
It's a magnificent experience for a reader.
Now, my question to you is...which do you prefer?
And if you've only read one of the authors, why did you like/dislike him?
I, personally, prefer Stephen King because he holds a sort of nostalgia for me, and he holds more merit as an author. While Chuck is more effective in grossing me out, King has a knack for creating amazing characters and using beautiful descriptions. His books are lengthy, but they go by quickly and stick with me longer. While he has a few books that fell a bit short of expectation, the majority of his books are gripping and enthralling.
