Have any of you read it?

It's set in sort of an Alternate universe in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Teenagers are 'marked' and they turn into Fledgling Vampyres. Then they have to go to a school, called the House of Night. They go there for about four years, I believe. At any point in time, their bodies can reject the change and they die. If you make it through, and your body doesn't reject the change, you go on to become a full fledged vampyre.

It's a really awesome series, and there are supposed to be nine in the whole thing. It's on the fifth. If you've read it, please discuss :D

I've read them.
I think they are okay. It isn't going to win awards or anything but it is an interesting enough story.
The only thing that I really, really don't like is that they stop mid action. It feels like the author never finishes what she is saying but instead just stops when she gets to a certain number of words or pages.

I have read the series and I enjoyed it so far. I picked it up as a filler to keep me occupied while I was waiting on breaking dawn to come out. I found it to be a nice treat. A light read that was fun. Zoey cracks me up, my only issue with the series is that she repeats herself a lot. She is always backtracking in the story. Other than that I liked it. I am looking forward to the new one coming out this month.:)

i read it and to be honest i thought it was a little shallow. zoe's sooooo special just because her mark is different? she has special powers AND she gets the guy within the first, like, 10 chapters of the story. there's no basis for their relationship other than their mutual dislike of aphrodite. oh please. my friend spoiled the series for me so i'm not reading it anymore, but even then it's really obvious what's going to happen. the author has no depth. sorry, i just don't like it.

I read the first book, but then i got caught up with Twilight and stuff. It was pretty good. The beginning was a little confusing in the beginning beacuse there were a bunch of terms, like marked and vampyre, thrown at me,but then it cleared up as I read on.

I'm on the third book now, and I've enjoyed what I have read so far for a lot of reasons. Like with any novel or book series, there's issues too. Im going to avoid spoilers - everything is fairly vague.

Positives:

1. I love how the series has incorporated many spiritual teachings into it. The authors have clearly read into Paganism and Native American rituals and belief systems. The prayers to Nyx are very Pagan in nature - and the information regarding the pentagram is completely accurate if one goes by the original beliefs and standings on the symbol rather then the demonized version many people in modern society have of it. The information concerning herbal magic - sage, eucalyptus, lavender - is all quite accurate as well. While I'm not entirely certain on Cherokee beliefs - my father's family is Cree and very attached to their Native roots. From their stories and from the traditional ceremonies I have attended, the depiction of the Cherokee culture reads true in a lot of ways as well.

I also find the People of the Faith tend to remind me very firmly of certain close-minded religions. The confrontation between Neferet and Step-loser really enforced it xD

2. I love how the authors freely incorporated a gay male into the story. I find a lot of authors tend to avoid this (Anime doesn't count, seriously. >_>;; ) Even some who have characters they know are gay, don't actually out the characters. (J.K. Rowling anyone?) They also don't over-play the gayness, nor do they avoid the nastiness of homophobia.

3. The references made amuse me to no end. Its very clear these women have studied their mythology (Penthesilea, for one example) - and have no qualms throwing in current day pop culture. Hugh Jackman - he's a vampyre, didn't you know? XD

A also enjoy the 'brown pop' and 'mom hugs'. xD

4. Three-dimensional characters. It doesn't happen in the first book overly much. Zoey is a bit Mary-Sueish in all her 'specialness' but I guess that's needed, as becomes apparent by book two. Book two adds new dimensions to the characters that take them from being the typical to the rounded, which is nice. Its also fun to learn how much you so can't trust first impressions with the characters. I'm finding a lot of the characters I liked / disliked in the first book I dislike / like now in the third.

Negatives / Personal Preferences

1. Personally, I tend not to like books written in first person, but the House of Night is pretty awesome despite that. I also found grammar and spelling mistakes. Teehee xD

2. Mary-Sueness D: Zoey has it. Its not...wild, Mary-Sueness..not once the second book comes in, but at first...urgh. And her boyfriend Erik? Major Larry Stu .__.

3. Confusing beginning. I opened the first book and thought it was like, the third or something. I was a bit lost but by about the third page I caught on. The second book recaps swiftly, so you know its the second, and not the *insert number here* but the first book sort of jumps right in on you.

All in all though, I like the series :3

The house of night series is awesome! Though when I first started reading it I picked out the last book in the series by accident. So now i'm off to read the first one lol.

What other types of stories have they done? I have only just heard of them through the House of Night - do they always collaborate or do they write separately as well?

I got the series from our local bookstore and they gave me the wrong one to read first. However.. I didn't notice until almost half way through; I love when authors make it easy to pick up whichever book and be able to understand it! :)
I thought the books were great; they were a light and easy read, and they had a fairly interesting story line. There was a lot to keep up with [probably because it wasn't the first book i read] but all in all i'd give it an 8/10. Awesome series.

I actually have all 5 books that are out at the moment. I find them to be pretty good books. The main thing I can't stand is the DRAMA, drama and more drama. It gets kinda old. Then they way they have Zoey so back and forth with men. Course in the 5th book I kinda supported her change of direction because of the one guy who shall be nameless for people who haven't read it, getting all over bearing and so forth.

Take out all the boy Drama and it's still a great story.

haha, there is SO much drama in it! I do think that it's what keeps you attentive throughout the series though, she's always got something for you to think about or get frustrated with or just.. yeah, there's just always something going on in the books! :)

I really enjoy this series, its a great way to fill time. Someone else
mentioned it, but I ahve to agree that the boy drama is the only thing that doesn't
put this series into my favorites category. Zoe needs to get over herself and pick somebody...I'm not going to ruin how anything happens, but suffice it to say, wtf were you THINKING you dumb brunette?
I'm on the team of boy #4. Hes coolest.
I'd pick him anyway. <.<

I'm actually barely reading the first book.
A friend recommended it and since I'm checking
them out from my public library I have to wait a bit
for the others. But I'm liking the first book.

It's kind of wierd, I found this post right after I finished reading Hunted. Personally I think Zoey has WAAAAAY to many guys hanging on her every word. Other than that I really like the series

I'm really half and half with these books. I love the idea and the main plots but how perfect Zoey and Erik are is annoying. I also hate that she has the boys all over her. I love Damien and Jack...
So 50% 50% in mind...

The series is great, though it feels a bit shallow at times yes, and the boy drama gets old every now and again, yes, the whole of the book is a great read. I have read the first four, and intend on reading the fifth when I have some spare time. Vampire books are good, as a rule of thumb, as are cheesy romance novels (shuddup), which makes this a readable book regardless. The fact that she finds such interesting and original ways to do things just make it that much better.

So I started to read this series about either a year ago or two, I don't remember really. But I own every book and I would have to say my favorite book out of the whole series would be 'Chosen' for some odd reason. But this was my first series that I actually read and everything. Sure I read the Harry Potter but I didn't read all the books to tell you the truth! :p I just wasn't into fallowing the crowd then so I might start reading them again but I don't know.
So I'm just wondering have you heard of this book series, if you haven't you should go find the books their amazing! <3
